Meng Tong is the chief Mech of Looi earning more than most of us..

He only took a check less than 1 mins to identify the problem normally.

He is a honest and busy man, you can trust him, trust his skill, but willing to pay a little bit more. Because so many ppls look for him for service, so his time became more exp..

If I ride a big bike, I will go to Looi.

Guys please do not treat Mengtong like not a "normal" mechanic cos he isnt 1. To many of us he is a great tuner and a experienced engine builder. He is the only one around with passion when doin up a bike. Its never a job to him but a part of his life.

So please DO NOT go to him for a sprcoket, oil or tyre change.... anything that does not require his expertise for that matter. Cos its draining his time and passion.

Loois Motor has a far bigger customer base than any other other shops outhere so its only fair that the boss reserves the right not to service bikes not bought from them.

Furthermore since u have decided to buy a bike from other shops shouldnt they be able to support your aftersales?? If not then shouldnt you buy from LOOIS in the 1st place? What I am trying to say here is, many of u go round the island to get the "cheapest deal" but falied to see the importance of aftersales and expertise of the aftersales force.

Loois Motor's pricing has been reasonable always although i cant guarantee they are the cheapest. So if i have to pay another few hundreds bucks more and i can rest assure my bikes are in good hands; in this case Mengtong's, i will still buy from Loois.

IF I RIDE A BIGBIKE, I WILL ALWAYS BUY FROM LOOIS MOTOR....so long as MengTong is there!

Very good boss. He actually went down to the shop for me to collect my bike during nights off at 9pm! The paperwork was a little on the slow side (4 days for the transfer). Very honest, no problem with bike after I got it. Stock could go 140kph! Haven't tried the servicing yet. The boss gave me new alphabets for the rear numberplate when one of it fell off.

If you consider dexing, You would find that they work the same like Mah and Lee's motor. I have been suspecting for a long time if they have the same boss.

NEVER go Dexing if I were you. I would prefer Looi's

If wanna patronise that shop, I will advise him/her to look for Patrick. It will be a bonus if you have friends who knows him. I never liked that shop but don't hate it either. :) My 2 cents

Agreed, it happened to one of my friends, he complained to Ah Biao and eventually got it fixed. If my friend didn't inspect the bike then, think he will just keep quiet.

Gave me a stucked radiator and worn used tyre.. promised on the road guarantee also fake one. totally zero customer service and all the empty promises. Family bussiness so don't have to worry abt mechanic competency. Been going there for servicing & mod & quite satisfied with workmanship. Slightly ex but overall happy with end result. Look for the two sons, the father not so good & not very caring towards yr bike.

Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.

Hi all, the following article is extracted from SGbikers' forum. I did not write it.

Let me forewarn all u young/middling/old motorcycle purchasers out there : I have purchased in excess of 30 bikes in this countryin the last 12 yrs and still am on my guard with the local bike shops. There are no great shops in SIN, only those which suit certain needs and certain people better. There is no govermental oversight of the industry and therefore the dealers are free to run riot when contracting with poor souls. Note the following :

1. Beware parallel importers whose prices may seem attractive when buying but toward whom u will have no legal recourse as no warranty is prrovided on their bikes. Do not fall for their tales of personal warrantyship from their shops.

2. In fact warranties are often not honoured even byt the distributing shops - get in touch with MANUFACTURER if this fate befalls u.

3. Repossession can occur even if u've crashed/lost/become disinterested in the bike or even if u've passed away. HP obligations do not stop simply because u've lost a leg. So think thrice before u enter a HP agreement.

4. MSC - the youth among u may think the son in this shop is easier to deal with - but he is is the greater liar n cheat amonst the two proprietors.

5. MAH Pte. Ltd. and all its franchises ie. DeXing, Fast Freddies, Lee's, Belwin etc are ignorant asses. They've lied n cheated to many of my friends n I, only beginning to dote on us when the wallets r drawn. This group often make promises they can't keep and change tack when they find your demands not to their best interest.

5. Check and warn the dealer that the price quoted is an ALL IN price. This should include

- Insurance (avery large variable - call the insurer after the shop gets u the quote) - if the bike is on HP it must be insured COMPREHENSIVELY - NB if u write it off, u'll b paying for something u don't have for the next 1-5 yrs. No2nd / 3rd party crap!

- COE - get a guaranteed price - if told to wait for bidding subject that to writing and a defnite date.

- DEPOSITS on bikes that r "DUE" to arrive - ell them the contract is off if they don't deliver by a stipulated date. If possible give them a post dated cheque or credit card imprint that can be cancelled at your behest

- HP - don't get into the trap of full settlement penalties. These can turn a $25k R1 into a $32K bike which u'll then never sell. The best way is to hold the dealer to a trade in deal or choose a company with good rebates like HITACHI credit. Shops to beware : LOOI's and MAH (MSC to a lesser extent but r no angels). Also keep a good record or u'll have difficulty getting a loan again on another bike. Check at 1st instance whether u may need a guarantor - this will speed up the process.

- Ignore promises of free servicing etc. as part of the deal - mostly they're lies and labour is normally free anyway at most shops except at MINERVA (ducati) and Harley Davidson. A friend put his bike into Ducati for the 10k service and they billed him without any explanation for $780. When he demanded a breakdown they said 300 for parts and 380 for labour !! Another guy put his crashed 916 in for repair and they waited 8 months before commencing the work, all the while lying to him that it was in progress.

- NO AGREEMENT FEES - this is not normally charged so exclude it

- ERP DEVICE - ensure that it's included

- PAYING CASH - this isn't the great advantage it seems. When u want to trade in the dealer has u over a barrel because he can pay u anything he wants. NB bikes are very hard to sell privately - what do say when some ex con wants a test ride eh?

- REPOSSESSION- check who is giving u the loan on the HP - if the bike shop itself is doing it they have a burden if they repossess. Alternartively if a Finance company does it then they have the burden and are generally less quick to repossess

I could go n on but the point will be lost. They are all bastards, so u have to make a choice - do u want to stop riding just cause u get ripped off? Instead, do some legwork, lay down the terms explicitly and don't sign if they r not satisfiable with your circumstances. If all goes pearshaped and u know u r right, get legal advice - often the 1st consultation is free - don't let these bike dealers off the hook by taking your dosh!!

Maintenance - good shops are JEEP CHEE motors in UBI (there r 2 - the one u want is down the road from MSC n DeXing - toward the end of the one way street) the guys are Ah Lai and Raymond.

Fabian Looi's at Tampines industrail estate is also said to b good

With all shops - stand there and watch the work done if u can.

Ride safe lads.

What makes this shop commendable?

When i first bought this in may, they offered me at $20.5k w/o insurance. With insurance is about $22k cos i need to pay age loading....

I chose to get it in may bcos in june, there will be 30% increase in insurance by NTUC. But due to shipment delay, the bike arrived early june which happens to be hit by the insurance hike......

Insurance prices in May - about $1.9k

june - Shot to $2.7k ( $2.1k after 20% NCD)

As the boss can't deliver as promise, therefore he offered to absorb the extra cost incurred....... What a happy person i was.....

Thats the way to do business...... In future if i would to buy any bike, i would buy from them.....

So end up total bike price = $22,250

IU = -$150

First Party Insurance = -$2.1k

Road Tax (1/2yr) = -$160

= $19,840 (Bike price)

They also charge me interest rates of 4%pa flat.

I've already ask ard most of the motor shops ard.... Nobody can give me this price...... The lowest they can give is $20,500 w/o insurance but at 5%pa

think if u r first customer, they would tend to chop chop you.

but if u go with ex customers that r familiar with the staff there, then i think things can be sorted out properly n misunderstandings avoided.

yes i agree that those big shops like dexing can b a bit arrogant. i agree on that point. I bought my bike from dexing. n i know their stuffs r expensive. but i went with a fren of mine who had been getting his small to big bikes since he was 16 frm there. n every now n then he goes down to the workshop on weekends to sit down n tok kok.

so he went with me n had a good bargain for me.

but as for replacements of stuffs when i go alone n enquire, the price they quote me is of the high side, n tats y, the onli time i go to dexing is when i pay my instalments. other repairs or changes wise, i go to other workshops. u mus think la, big shops of course charge big. small shop charge small but quality may be small too.

anyway one more point to add, my that friend so good with them until they had this 2nd hand yoshi pipe for sale, n they jus lent it to him first until they found a buyer. n he was like using it on his blackbird for around a month n happy playing with it , until a buyer wanted it and he went bac to the shop to return to them.

sounds a bit unethical, but when u r the one benefitting frm it, it feels so damm shiok....haha...

well up to you, but its better to have a good rapport with ur shop.

n when they get to know you better, things could be discussed properly n you could get a good deal for your next bike.

Went to this motortiam 2 times liao at about 1 or 2 months ago :thumb: First went there to wash carb, $8....happy with the price, the workmanship and customer service. Second time go there check headlight y faulty. Found out to be only bulb blown, charged me $4(normal one lar, $4 only. think wat? halogen ah?). Happy also :thumb:

This is a bike shop that wun chop ppl even if u are those that ride bike but dunnoe anything one like me, hehe. Willing to answer my questions in a polite way. And I do think they have the skill to repair bikes. Saw the boss service a ST11(brake thing, i dunnoe wat's wrong, hehe) and GSX1000 b4. Imagine if he no skill, would the tua gu go to him. I believe they are regular customers in the way they speak to each other. Very friendly and highly recommended. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
