hi bros/sis,

If I were to post pictures of copyright sources on my own commerical websites, will I be sued?

Also, the copyrighted pictures are watermarked, if I can remove the watermark, can I post them without fear?

Lastly, how to deem pictures as copy right if they have no watermark on them?

Thanks..

If you are going to use it on a commercial website, then, you have to pay for license. If found out, you'll be sued for payment. Removing it's watermark won't help either, as long as the picture remains the same.

Howver, if you managed to modify the photo and it's not recognisible that the source is from a copyright photo, that's another different story...

For students, using copyrighted photos, basically is ok. Won't get into trouble unless it is used as a commercial product, as a portfolio no problem, and best indicate the source.

This is from my experience dealing with this lah, not professional advice ok...

Read any copyright notices on the website. The links to these notices are always at the bottom and usually regulate (i.e. allow, or prohibit) web visitors like you and I from doing things to the website, including image copying.

Put it simply:

Using other people's pictures on your website is considered doing so without consent. Moreover, the images are landed on your website, which could add to the legality mess that might be brought up.

As for ramifications (i.e. penalties) when the webmaster finds out that you are using his/her content on your website...it varies. If he is kind enough to allow you, then good. If he is not, he might inform you to remove it.

There are cases where people engage in large scale content stealing from websites...that one usually involves not only complaints but lawyer-equipped notices threatening people to cease this kind of plagarism.

As for you, you decide what's ethical lor...maybe scrutinize what you do to your website as well.

Thanks bro for your sound advice. I think I know what to do already. :)
