In the May's issue of Bike magazine, written by UK and available at Borders, there are a few pages devoted on biking safety tips.

Not to worry if you miss it, because most of Spectrum's safety tips here are the most important. But good to know if you want to read more on safety.

Street Smart Tip of the Day #26

Don't Just Focus your Vision on the Lane in front of U...

Put On All the Flood Lights

And Have your Vision Cover Traffic on both sides

that may Cut Into Your Path!

Blue Lorry on the Left or Bunch of Vehicles on the Right.

For some strange reason... they may just don't see You.

Flash your Lights, Horn and if all that fails... give way to him.

We live to ride another day.

Note: the Lorry on the Left.

More important... the SUV on the Extreme Right...

Some vehicles may find Q too long for the 2 turn lanes

& decides to turn from the non-turning lane.

He is doing an illegal turn... very hurried... In a rush...

Not to be caught... by police!

Sees front Clear.. (but did not see U the Motor cyclist)...

Turns... Wham!

Maybe U & Chris can organize a Trip up Mersing Route #3...

And U can conduct safety discussion along the way during breaks...

at the sea side

Nice!

How does a Sunday in July sound ?

We ride to Mersing.

Chinese/Malay Lunch then 1-2 hours kopi chit-chat session by Mersing Beach.

Then ride to Kluang, and N/S highway back to Singapore.

Total distance will be 350km, on all sorts of road terrain and different traffic conditions. Should not be many road works en-route.

I will ride my CBR600, but the object is not speed and power, but enjoying the road, scenary and day out and of course emphasize this thread.

Open to all bikes and riders who are properly attired (gloves, boots, etc)

Riders and P-platers to have 6-months minimum active riding experience cos Malaysian roads need to be more alert.

actually it was a series of riding techniques and concept spreaded around in different issues...issues like countersteering or bends and such are described with detail.

STREET SMART TIP OF THE DAY #27

By looking at the Data...

Our Legs/Foot takes the Highest Amount of Injuries... 40%

Next are our Hands/Arms... 30%

Head... 16%

Sensible Dressing will cut down on the Severity of our Injury.

Fully understands that our weather is Hot, Hot, Hot...

But collecting scars will not be pleasant experience...

Especially the Lovely Ladies.

A pair of Jeans w/ Shoes (Boots are Best).

A pair of Gloves

A Jacket... (will be ideal with elbow, shoulder & back padding)

Helmet is Compulsory by law...

DO consider a Full Face Helmet... 'Cos the Highest % of Hits on the Head is the Chin!

Some of my riding buddies have had skids...

Their Riding Jacket, jeans, boots were torn...

But their injuries were minor...

...just scratches where the clothings were torn.

SO the thick clothes take the 1st impact...

Can't say the same for one that rode with singlets...

Or one that rode without gloves...

Remember, when we skid... our hands are the 1st to catch the fall.

As if have said... I have seen enough bikers with scars on their arms to remind me to dress appropriately.

And it all becomes a Habit... A Good Habit. :giddy:

Yep!

Heard From those that do Tracks...

Textile jackets with protector just will tear during a fall.

But the Best Protection comes from Leather as a Second Skin... but it will be more $$$...

Guess the It will be Best Affordable Protection...

For our Bodies.... :thumb:

Textile jackets

Pros: Still provide good protection because of CE armour, good for hot n humid weather like wat we have in SG.need less maintanence and care.generally cheaper.

Cons: Will tear when u take a fall.

Leather jackets

Pros:provide excellent protection if fitted with CE armour, looks great.wun tear so much when u take a fall(abrasions)

Cons:HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! need more maintenance and care for the leather.really good leather jackets fitted with CE armour can cost a bomb.

I encourage wearing more protective gear.

I also would like to caution that, except for the helmet and to a lesser extent the spine/back protector, the rest of the gear protects the rider from abrasion and not much from fatal/disabling impact.

There were also some studies that showed that riders who wear more protective gear might also ride faster and more aggressively than when the same riders wear less protection.

Therefore, if you wear extra protective gear like jacket, pants and boots, be aware of their limitations in protection and that you do not compromise on your safety in riding habits.

U are Right...

Just watch Motorcycle racing...

Generally if they just skid.... and don't hit anything.

They could just walk away.

If they flip or hit the wall... :giddy:

AS with bikes... the majority skid off cornering.

IF u hit another vehicle that comes into your path...

...Not much can really protect U.

The idea is not to get into one!

Be street smart...

This photo is indeed very telling. Sadly, it is representative of easily half or more of riders I see in Singapore. Even riders of nice big sportsbikes I've seen wearing slippers shorts and singlets, and an open face helmet. Just don't understand why protecting oneself means so little to so many people. :sian:

It can also get very hot in the west too, even hotter than here, as well as very cold.

My only reason for not putting on all the gear is convenience and lazyness

Most trips here are always short. From north to south is 20km and from east to west is 40km.

If you are going to the Mall which is only 1-2 km from your home are you going to don your leathers, boots, gloves and full face helmet. Then when you reach the mall, where to keep all this stuff once you take it off.

Ya... Going to the Shopping Ctr, Coffee shop, or 7 eleven around the Corner...

Too short a ride to gear up... Fully Understand.

Well, at least Pants, Shoes & Glove...

AS for Full face Helmet... Just own One (full Face) Helmet.

then it won't be an option.
