Thanks vfrT,

i've just clocked 10K KM on the bike. So far so good, no big problems.

As i use it everyday to get to work from GP, i'm slightly paranoid on the maintenance schedule. I really can't afford the bike breaking down on me in the middle of the 2nd link.

If there's a way to arrest these potential engine problems before they crop up, and when you know it's cropping up, that would be great for newbie VFR owners. (if my bike could sms and tell me exactly what's wrong with it that would be superb, maybe that's for like future bikes. haha)

My bike is due for it's next 6K KM service, so would like to know what's worth inspecting and solving before yeah, i get stuck on the highway and have to call a tow-truck (expensive!)

thanks

cheers

julian

As your bike is still very new, I won't worry too much about it letting you down. The regular service maintenance as recommended in the owners manual is very good enuf. No need to go beyond that as its a environmental disaster and a waste of $.

VFR is a great and reliable bike. I've had 3 different used 5th genners and done more than 150,000km cumulatively on them without any serious problems.

These include daily commute, very regular riding trips including trips to Golden Triangle as well as the race track days. So you can see its had a hard life.

Things to look out for once it gets a bit old (say after 4 years) is the rectifier and alternator coil. Preventive regime includes

a. Cleaning out all the connectors every 2 years to prevent poor connections that can overload the electrical system leading to burnt harness or coil.

b. Replace the battery every 2 years to prevent rectifier burn-out due to the battery's inability to take the charge and causing the rectifier to overheat. I add a fan to cool the rectifier - its a $5 DIY job.

other than that, just enjoy the ride and worry less

Bros ... theres a 08 model for sale but with only 4300kms on the clock. The owner did only very short rides to work. Any risk associated with a 2 year old bike with such low mileage?

Appreciate any advice urgently cos gonna view tomorrow ... Thanks.

hi triumsg Bro , whether its a 2 year old bike or more , there's always a risk .

be it high risk or low risk . but to get a 2 year old bike with that kind of mileage is worth considering .

do inspect the bike visually and better if you can have a' 'mechanic friend' to come along .. at least he can give his point of view.

good luck , bro ! :thumb:

Just as an update bro, I viewed the bike. Graphite black/grey. Lovely. Mileage 4k only for 2 yr bike.

Only thing is that there was an accident and parts of the left fairing has minor scratches ... felt so sad to see that on an otherwise 'new' bike .. and now giving me many 2nd thoughts

Rode the bike a short distance and it was so smooth even at crawling speeds .. surprised me and the posture was ok for a guy like me who wears specs ...

If only i can find one new!!

Minor scratches means it was most prob an incident like a stationery fall or very slow speed.....accidents means a collision....my bike also had minor scratches on it...most prob prev owner made the bike go sleep b4.....the most important is the engine and alignment.....cosmetics can be done easily....

Posture ok for a guy wear specs? Beg ur pardon?

Specs users field of vision is limited by the coverage of the lens. If its too inclined or sports-like, you will be peeping above your lens and hence what you see will be uncorrected bro.

There are a lot of riders here wearing specs bro...I am also one of them...and I used to ride superbikes....if your specs are properly adjusted it should be no problem...also some specs are not suitable when riding...have to choose properly....

hi guys! i'm on the verge of getting a vfr, would like to know whether there's a mech that's commonly frequented by viffer riders that's really handy with the bike?

its a pretty old model so i'd like to give it a once-over right at the start. thanks in advance!
