Hi all PK! Got a FQ TA150 and went for carb washing last week. Now discover that there are drips of pertrol found at the bottom of the carb. Not sure whether before washing its like that. Is there a need for concern? Thanks in advance!

Sorry if no one is able to help you later. If you're going yourself, here's a few pointers:

Cosmetic: Check for the usual dents, scratches, rust, general bike condition, etc.

Internals:

Ask the owner how often he services his bike, change EO etc. General guideline is -

EO: Every month or every 2000km - 2500km depends on owner

Carb maintenance: usually wash every 5000 - 7000 to maintain good working condition

Type of petrol used: Naturally, higher octane is considered "cleaner".

Check for chain wear, exhaust header wear, serious rusting on pipes.

Forks: Just check visually is they're aligned.

Handlebar alignment: If stock handlebar but you see the bars are not straight across the indicator lights panel, bike probably dropped or been in accident before. Takes a good serious knock to go out of alignment.

While checking all the above, make sure the engine is off and cooled awhile. If possible, let the engine cool for at least 15 mins or more. Chat with owner, go kopitiam or something.

After that, see if engine fires up responsively. Throttle a little and hear if there's any distinct "clinking" or "clanking" in the engine. Good sign if it sounds nice and smooth.

Engage 1st gear and play with your clutch a little. See if the "biting" is "tight".

Test ride and get yourself a better feel of the bike. Normally your 6th sense will tell you if there's something not quite right.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keep in mind that you are buying a 2nd hand bike so don't expect too much. Minor problems like worn brake pads and all are small issues. Most importantly is that the engine is in good running condition

All in all, don't make a rash decision which you might regret later. :thumb:

Anyone care to add other countless points that I've probably missed and help a future PK here?

To clarify, 'drips' refer to leaking of pertrol at the carb however at a slow rate, it takes a while to accumlate a large drop. It is unlikely water cos the red liquid is my Mobil95.

Just to confirm am I right to say that a normal serviceable/good working carb should be properly sealed and no visible petrol should be seen coming out of it? (Not sure if my description is correct).

Do you think its a gasket problem?

it shouldn't not be leaking... go back to the mechanic who service your carb and ask him to fix it up?

Hey guys, must I switch the fuel knob to 'OFF' if I'm just gonna park for a day or two? Should I do it every time I park?

anyway, no harm doing it... just remember that your fuel knob in off position.

its better to switch OFF the fuel knob (for 2 stroke bike) because it will be hard to kick start after parking the bike for a day or more

Hmm u see if it's petrol or is it EO 1st ba.

Brought my bike to Koon today. Found out that the oil seal behind the sprocket has worn out a little, but it doesn't have to be replaced as yet.

The good thing is, whenever I park my bike, my sprocket gets oiled, and chain gets lubed when I'm on the move.

It's like having an auto-oiler.

Regarding my TA150 rear bearing spoilt (abit shaky) is it really serious to change or wait until it becomes more shaky

If you don't change, it may damage your rims, then u will need to spend more for repairs instead.
