it also depends on where la.. In Singapore its really not necessary. How many minutes are you going to hold 130 and above? Given the volume of traffic and proximity of highway entraces and exits, its not as safe at NSH in Malaysia. With shorter journeys, its also doesn't really call for such speeds. Start thinking of a very convincing reason, and most importantly, plead the case and show that you understand it is an offence. They are very touchy about offenders justifying their actions self-righteously without remorse.. just my 2 cents...

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Well, according to the DIPS, exceeding more than 40km/h will have 12 demerit points, abt $200 fine and have to attend court. Hope this info helps.

Hi People,

I am new here and would like some questions answered. I tried to look for the answers but i got more confused.

I was caught for speeding above 40km/hr on a 90 stretch of road. The officer who stopped me told me that i have to attend court. Can I ask :

1) Does that mean my licence will be revoked/suspended?

2) Will I be fined?

Hope to get some replies asap. I am very worried as this was my first time and so suey.

Bro, preceding information is fyip.

1. Exceeding the road speed limit of 40 km/h but not more than 50 km/h will earn you 12 demerit points plus $170 fine for light vehicles or $200 fine for heavy vehicles. You will also have to go to court.

I'm not sure what is the purpose of going to court though. You might want to plead for leniency when you face the judge though.

2. You will not get your license revoked if you are not a probationary plate rider. You will also not get your license revoked if you have 0 - 11 pts at the time that you commit the offence.

Hope that helps. Ride slowly from now on. Take care bro.

Bikes points system diff from cars?

Tot for non-p-plates, its on 2 yrs 24 points....

Bike and cars the same. Heavy vehicles refers to Class 4 vehicles i guess. Must check whats the definition of 'heavy' vehicles. Btw, its 24 pts for one year.

Wrong lah....

Its only 12 pts a year...

24 points is 2 yr period... If you use up all in 1 month, then good luck for the next 23 months

From TP website:

How does DIPS operate?

DIPS allows a driver to accumulate less than 24 demerit points within 24 months before he becomes liable for suspension. If a driver has been suspended before, he will only be allowed to accumulate less than 12 demerit points within 12 months.

A first time suspension will last three months. Subsequent suspensions may be up to three years.

Where the suspension period lasts a year or longer, the motorist will have his licence revoked and will have to re-sit and pass all the tests in order to be allowed to drive again.

A new driver's licence will be revoked if he accumulates 13 or more demerit points within a period of 12 months from the date his licence is obtained.

A person shall not be allowed to take a test of competence to drive any class of vehicle

(a) during the period of suspension of a licence, whether for the same or for a different class of licence held by him;

(b) during the period for which he has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence, whether for the same or for a different class of licence; or

© within the period of one year from the date of the revocation of a licence, whether for the same or for a different class of licence held by him.

A motorist who maintains a 12-month free of offences with demerit points from the date of his last offence, will have all his previous points cancelled from his record. Those who maintain a 24-month period free of offences with demerit points from the date of expiry of the last suspension, will also have all previous suspensions cancelled from their records.

So if a P-plate kena this 12 demerit points, will he get revoked anot?

Btw how does TP catch you speeding? They use the speed camera (operated by TP) or they will go beside you and stop you?

I heard some myths regarding that the manual speed camera quite hard to catch bikes cos of their small size. Any comments?

If p plate kena 12 points then revoke.

There are a lot of ways they can catch you speeding. One way is they will 'tail' you. They got a device on their bike that can clock your speed.

So if p plate must be careful. Well, even if not p plate also must careful.

I always take that road to go to work every morning and i tell you. That Tampines road (heading towards Hougang) which you mentioned is infamous for its speedtrap camera. Esp about 100metres away from the back gate of Paya Lebar Airbase. At least 2x a month.

So the best way is to slow down (after 2 bus stop) after you come out from Old Tampines Road to 70km/h and all will be fine.
