Out of curiosity, does anyone know how long does it take for LTA to approve when a new vehicle is sent for inspection? Trying to seek a second opinion as the new bike I've brought from a shop kept telling me LTA has yet to approve it. It's been a month close and still no approval. Hence the bike is just sitting in the shop. It's a Japanese bike with no changes from the previous year model.

So, is it the bike shop issue or LTA?

I would prefer not to discuss the bike shop but funny thing is, two of the same bike I ordered came in and I'm the only one left whose bike can't collect yet. Funny leh..

Some bike shops are really F-up. If they really want it will take only 3 days for your new bike to be out on the road. Those delay few weeks to months are those who don't bother care. LTA approval matters/transfer/register ownership only takes max 2 days to be done.

Hi guys,

Just to share some information with you.

In Singapore there are 2 types of approval by LTA, Batch approval or Type Approval.

Batch approval refers to bikes that are parallel imported into Singapore by dealers on every shipment and LTA will require inspection for the bike on a ratio of maybe 10 : 1. Meaning eg, 10 CBR 150, you will need to send 1 bike for inspection.

For Type approval, it is mainly for bike distributor eg. Hong Leong, they will just need to send in 1 bike for testing and once they pass the prescribe test, they will no longer require to send the same model for testing unless there are some modification to the bike.

Once a bike is registered, you should be able to get the bike on the following day with insurance done. However, if you have been waiting for your bike to get it pass their inspection, most likely there must be some issues within LTA testing or most of the time, some dealers are collating order of the same model that you bought before they ship in the bike due to save cost on inspection fee or freight charges.

Hope this clear your doubt!

If I miss out on any point or there are some errors on my above message, do feel free to point out.

Pardon me but I can't understand how come the bike model is the same as previous year model, no changes to it except the colour also need to get new approval?

Weird thing is, when the bike I ordered came in, I spotted three of them, all same colour. But now, only my bike is at the shop. The other two gone! Now, curiosity is what got me! :?
