I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert by any means but I have been riding for a while and the CBR150 took my interest as a daily rider. I had originally seen it in Thailand and after looking at the specs I advised a friend who was about to get his license that it would make a good 1st bike. At the time I was riding a sonic and after seeing a 2nd hand one for sale I went to take a look/see test ride just for fun and ended up buying it. =p

I think the specs, weight, engine design, ergonomics etc make it an almost perfect daily rider for a place like Singapore. And having owned the following list of bikes and ridden many more I feel that I am reasonably qualified to say that. I loved the sonic but the extra fuel and engine capacity and the DOHC engine design make this a much sweeter ride.

My previous rides:

Yamaha Virago 250cc (Aust)

Yamaha FZR600 (old old one, Aust)

Kawasaki ZXR400 (Singapore)

Suzuki SV650 (2000 model)

Honda CBR600F3 (1998 model)

Honda XR600 (1997 model, Motard wheels)

Kawasaki Z1000 (2003 model)

Honda Sonic (owned 2)

Aprilia RS125 (Y2k model)

KTM EXC 200 (Y2k model)

Honda CBR150R

(I think that's all =p)

Anyway, for me I take joy in owning a bike for a while, trying it out and moving on. Sure I regret selling some (esp my CBR600F3) but it's all a learning experience and much more fun than wasting my money on cars.

=)

when i get my 2a i was planning to upgrade..i hav frens riding nsr pgm4, s4 vtec2, cbr400 L model.. hope u can help me on the pros n cons of some of the bikes.. the unknown kawasaki zx4r..u rode it ride..

Pls do not worry. this bike is one good reliable bike that wont give up on you.

u can do 130km/hr on msia high way/expressway. its comfortable.

in fact, i have been traveling on 120km/hr in msia only on other bikes.

dun let the speed pull u away from msia.

your fren told u not to bring her in is because he/she simply thinks that the speed is slow.

while some will tell u that the sudden wind blowing from certain direction will blow u away. well, tat isnt true, it might swerve u a little but definately wont blow u away

:thumb:

u forgot one thing..u can squeeze even in between 2 lorries..i did dat n my gf who was my pillion hug me till i cant breathe properly..:giddy:

hahah..but lost some of my guts after my accident..so currently regaining my confidence n guts..

If you can I would advise waiting an extra year, saving as much as possible and going straight to the CBR600. Most of the 400's are outdated and overpriced as the don't really make them any more. This is Singapore fault for not upgrading the class system.

in my opinion it should be something like...

2b > 250cc (with power to weight restriction)

2a > 650cc

2 above 650cc...

or maybe throw in a 6-12 months probationary period for 125cc

If you want a CBR600 for pure track then the 600RR is the bike to buy. If you want something a little more compromising and good for all things then the F4 or f4i is the bike to get. This is a great bike on the road or track and is comfortable enough for touring. The f3 and below are a bit dated now. I sold my CBR600F3 for about 4k last year. I've seen some f4's (non-EFI) going for around 6k and F4i's from 8k up. 600RR's seem to be above 12k still.

The ZXR400 is great but you need to find a source for parts outside of Singapore. This is only because Evershine (local Kawa importers) are Muthafarkers! The only good thing is you ccn get the bike pretty cheap in sg because it's not very popular. Great little track bike and lots of mod parts avail from Japan. I know a guy who owns two and races in the 400cc class in Malaysia at Pg/Sepang etc.

RS250> Aprilia have stopped making parts. these bikes have LOADS of power and require skill to control but they handle like a dream. Power to weight is almost equivalent to a 600. Old ones are CHEAp now but they could cost you a fortune in repairs. Better not to risk it in my opinion. My RS125 has cost me too much already. The only thing I can say is it corners like a dream though and instills ALOT of confidence. Great brakes also for a 125.

CBR400/RVF400/NSRPGM4 Way overpriced in Singapore for their age in my opinion. Again due to the stupid class system and the fact that most bikes have stoppped making 400's and 250 2 strokes (250 commuter bikes still common)

GXR400... Good cheap bike but a bit on the old side and hard to find a good model. Pay $1000 or less and keep another 1k or more for replacing worn bits and this bike could serve you well and still run sub 2min times at PG with a little practise. Best value for money 2a bike. Kinda looking out for one myself.

The other 600 to consider is an R6. Awesome bike but still holding their value well in Singapore. Cheapest I've seen 2nd hand is about 8k for a y2k model.

Hope this helps a little,

Cheers,

Chris
