i tink there's some confusion abt the bros here with regards to horns.

aftermarket horns comes in at least 2 common types:

1) electromagnetic

2) air

the common ones we see on cars and bikes belong to 1st type whereas air horns tend to be for lorries, which have a compressed air reservoir to store air for assisting in activating their brakes, clutch, etc (explains why u hear the pssst sound frm such vehicles when they are on the road).

aftermarket air horns are a big nono whereas electromagnetic horns belong to the gray region whereby some vehicle inspectors allow while there are others who disallow during annual vehicle inspections.

common brands for such electromagnetic horns are Stebel, Fiamm, Type R etc. i have heard of different reviews (both gd & bad) for the diff brands, with no conclusion on which 1 is the best. but i guess Stebel is a safe bet. been using Stebel for ard 3years.

i do have knowledge on DIY fixing of Stebel for our bike. not a too easy job since it involves some amount of wiring & positioning of the twin horns. so my suggestion for less-technically inclined pple will be to get the horns fixed at motordiams. have started working hence dont have as much time to play ard as before. sorry bro~

Bro, how does an electromagnetic horn sounds like? Is it like the stock one? How does the stebel sounds like?

Steering away from the topic of air horns.. I need to get my bike repaired after the accident. Basically my handle is bent, and my headlight cover is broken. My dad got his mechanic friend to check out my bike and he quoted me $250 for handle and headlight cover change, home service. Any thoughts?

original headlight assembly including reflector will cost ard $45 w/o worksmanship frm LAB. price of handlebar not so sure.

u can try calling FJT at 63925928 to check out the price.

yr dad's mechanic probably factored in quite abit for his worksmanship charges~

i certainly hope that only the handlebar is bent while the clamps and the parts connected to the front fork are still ok~

where do u stay bro?

i believe LAB selling for close to $18 per pair. but of course get their mechs to fix up the horns at yr own risk. :cheeky:

i positioned 1 horn at the original stock horn position (above front mudguard) and the other 1 i position at the right hand side engine casing (secured using 1 of the bolts for coolant pump). there's quite a few bolts to pick frm actually. hehe.

originally wanted to put both at the sides of the engine casings but couldnt find a good spot to secure the horn for the left engine casing.

okay.. if they do it got any service charge or i bring to other motorbike shop install better and will they charge the same or more ?

at there ah?

The rest still looks ok to me.. Just my right handlebar is bent upwards and the rubber throttle grip is ripped. I live in Serangoon.

actually for fairings, it's very possible to buy the parts and change yourself. rather easy de. for the handlebar possibly need mechanic to do since might need specific tools like torque wrench maybe.

Is it actually possible to just replace the head fairing of our bike instead of the whole fairing set? Cos most of the paint scraped off due to the accident is only from the head fairing (which is pretty cool, all thanks to the design of the bike) and I'm not sure about minor paint touch up services..

very possible, the different pieces of the fairing can be bought separately.

for LAB, there will be worksmanship charges for items purchased that u need them to fix up for u.

bringing to other motorshops is tricky. i still remember the times when me and another fellow rider went to 3 different bikeshops in CCK area looking for one which can help us to swop the exhaust pipes on our bikes (same model).

the 1st shop claim they dont have time as they are closing soon, 2nd shop claim the positioning of the 2 exhaust pipes are different & will need plenty of labor & time to swop the pipes hence quoted us $25. 3rd shop also claim they are closing soon.

subsequently, we got fedup and i DIY the swopping of pipes in 1/2hr. i ty not to patronise the 3 above mentioned shops ever since. :cheeky:

oh yah, and if u r wondering the moral of the story. i guess it will be that apparently bikeshop owners in CCK are definitely not hard up for business and they r most likely to reject yr business if it involves only worksmanship w/o purchasing any items frm them. :sian:

i cant be too sure how the throttle is connected to the handlebar itself. but for removal of handlebar alone, i think there are only 1 or 2 allen key bolts to unscrew. but the ***** part will be transferring items like balancer, switch assembly, brake pump reservoir and lever, etc which are fixed onto the handlebar. havent had experience removing them.

but for front head fairing & headlight assembly, these 2 items are pretty easy to remove once u figure where all the screws are located.

actually as i type, i realise that it is really quite labor intensive. hehe. perhaps the $250 can be pretty worth it if the mech does a good job with all the replacement parts.

too bad u dont stay near CCK, else i can dropy to have a peek & assess the damages. :cheeky:

Thanks Don.

Lazy1000.. I think he's supposed to finish the whole bottle.. I usually pay $12 for EO change, but he finishes the bottle. At least I think he does because he throws the bottle away after that.

the bike needs 1 litre of engine oil (EO), so the mechanic probably short-change u. he should have given u the balance actually. tmr morning before u start ur bike, check your EO level using the dip stick on the side of ur engine to see if there's enough EO inside.

In addition to the preceding post, what abt changing pipes? Is there like a range of pipes like what we have for tyres?

of course of course, there's endurance and yoshimura pipes to choose from. maybe there's others but i never see before. fix it up and risk a 500 dollars fine from TP\ROV. haven't really seen any CBR150R around with aftermarket pipe yet. hope this helps. :cheeky:

is there any way we can modify cbr pipe to make the bike go faster?

ermm, if i'm not wrong u can "tong" the pipe. might need to tune the carb again after u are done with the pipe. Axxis once said that the gain will probably be see better if the carb is changed to a flat-side carb too. expect fuel consumption to drop significantly too.

Bro, i thought yoshi pipe only for big bikes? Anyway i think CBR 150 no street legal pipes.

So basically only choice is the stock pipe?

technically, yes! :p

im quite clueless with regards to the design of our exhaust pipe actually.

my JB mech told me the front part of the pipe has got a layer of catalytic convertor lined along the interior circumference. is this true?

the only thing i can confirm is that the end-can have the standard silencer plates, etc inside.

was contemplating whether to have the catalytic convertors removed some time back, but ended up didnt do it as i wonder how much good it will do to only remove a layer along the circumference. :cheeky:
