Hi guys,

On the way home last nite, my bike did a slight fish tail(it was dry). So today, I went to pump rear tyre to 230 cause I thought tyre pressure low. Went to work today on PIE at 100+, could still feel slight fish tail, pulled over on the road shoulder, check tyre look ok. So I thought my tyre compund is old, so I carry on.

End of the day, I ride back home 100+ and still feel slight fish tailing. When I reach home, I realized I was losing tyre pressure. Damn heng man, I am surprised I could still ride even though the tyre was so soft. Lucky I took corners slowly.

Anyway, I found a 3 INCH screw! in the tyre.... lucky my fren came over help me patch. The hole is pretty huge and I don't feel safe so i will change my tyre tomorrow! I would hate to have a blow out while riding on the highway.

I am on stock size now, Battlax 100/90 at the rear, I intend to go 110/80. Can someone recommend me a good sticky tyre and roughly how much? Should I change the front too? If rear bigger and front stock size, is that ok?

I very new at riding, fortunately, nothing happened... ride safe guys. I learnt an important lesson today.

if i didnt rmb wrong there is no 100 for bt 39.. its either 90/80 or 110/80..

i change mine few mth back for rear 90/80 at 80 or 85..

my previous tyre was 110/80 , its alright except it uses more petrol..

Guys, using used EO may not be a good idea laaaaaaaaaaa there may be alot of dirt or metal debris in them ...... right ?? I know it is economical but it is also dirty to the swing arm & rear wheel ................. :giddy:

i didn't want to comment at first, but seeing how Uncle Lim brought up the point, used EO has a lot of carbon deposits which WILL get in to your chain. once in your chain, it will continue to build up just like if you don't change your engine EO until the whole thing jam.

with regard to fish-tailing, also please have your rear wheel bearing checked. it's a common reason for rear end fish-tail.

Tks guys, been really helpful again... bearings checked tom. and will get BT39 110 for the rear, the brand is Battlax right?

Next week I will try doing an oil change...

Bro, personally compound wise, Battlax BT39 is second to none. Oh ya about the size, i don't see a need to get 110/80. Makes the bike less efficient. I think stock size of 100/70 is perfect. If you are intending to corner knee down, do note that even a 90/80 can't be totally used at the sides. Thus, bigger tyres, i feel is not a need.

Btw, front back any size BT39 is going at 160-170 at my bike shop. i think other shop can get cheaper.

Thank you very very much for your advice. So I think I got to throw away the used oil liao, since it cant be used for my current chain. Will use used EO to lube my future standard/heavy duty chain.

Oh ya, can buy cheap2 mineral EO to lube my chain huh. Hahaha....

Btw, how do you guys dispose the used EO? share2 please... :cheeky:

You should have commented in the first place, brother2 advice2 lah.

i duno whats the reason, but the clean engine oil i use on my chain also turns into black fling-off deposits on my rims

:cheeky:

i have a feeling that there's no way the EO is going to be subject to difficult conditions as when used as chain lube compared to when in a combusting engine under high heat.

as such, i really dont see the major difference in using used or fresh EO for lubing chain. to a certain extent, it is like debating when we should use oil w/ which viscousity or even mineral vs semi-syn oil for lubricating chain.

:cheeky:

as for the part on carbon building up in chains, im less worried as (1) i dont think it will be in significant amounts and (2) i don't think carbon deposits are bad for the chain inner seals. so far i've only heard of other chemically reactive substances found in cleaning agents which may damage the rubber seals.

interest area to look at though. :)

at the end of the day, besides the kind of lube u use, it will be the frequency and technique of lubricating which contributes to the chain lifespan i suppose.

i understand.

would you wash your clothes with water collected from rain? water from tap also same thing, only one is less clean with deposits and dissolved materials.

I have a very simple question, but I myself donot know the answer. :cheeky:

What is/are the purpose/s of EO?

Errrrrrrrrrr EO is used for engine - different specs needed but if u need to lube your chain, i think it is better to use a lube specs for chain lorrr - i just think it is more efficient & cleaner ........... sure we can use any oil to lube the chain.... but if got choice better get the right lubrication to do the job..... :)

can u then use water collected from rain to wash yr corridor?

do u need to use fresh water to wash corridors?

:cheeky:

i pretty much get where u r coming from.

just that yr emphasis is on the quality of EO used to lubricate the chain while mine is on the EO being able to reach the appropiate places in the inner chain for lubrication. :)
