This is something like a market survey.

Sportsbike owner (current or previous), as well as non-sportsbike owner are welcomed to participate.

Let's admit it, sportsbike has a certain sexiness appeal to them, even though they may not be the most comfortable or practical daily transport.

When it is time to buy a sportsbike, which single factor will determine which sportsbike model you choose?

For simplicity, let's restrict the sportsbike to: it is a Jap class 2 sports bike; 600-1000cc; the latest or the more recent models over the last 3-5 yrs.

And compare within other similar bikes within the same class, same age. That is, compare a 600 vs 600 cc. Compare 02-03 model vs models of the same age.

Answer the question for yourself. Not what you think how others will choose. But how you yourself will decide.

If you wish to futher comment, please state are you an existing, previous owner of sportsbike or has not owned a sportsbike yet.

Have fun

It's all up to each individual. I would prefer something that offers the most thrills. Thrills as in the bike's ability to excite the rider. It could be in term of handling, power, look etc. . .

In another word, the rider should not be feeling boring after riding it. Be it a year or 5 years. My opinion is that the "thrill" factor is what made sportbike so appealing.

Hmmm, strange, the poll result so far does not explain how come suzuki sportsbike GSX (both 600 & 1000cc) are rather popular on the sg road... to me, they are hardly the best looking sports bikes around.:cheeky:

i wonder why never consider the maintenance side? i do believe all same categories do have more or less the same performance. wont be different too much in term of power or handling.

if me, i will consider maintenance cost also.

Posted

Agree with Wlution that for some people, maintenance cost might be the deciding factor.

Which brings up to the point that the bike costs also matters. And there are probably other factors too.

The limitation is that the SBF poll is limited to 10 poll MCQ choices niah

However, note that, while many factors affect the choice of purchase, it is the most important deciding factor that we are asking here.

i think reviews r impt as bkgnd information n will provide some info to the rest of the choice listed in the poll. i think at the end of the day, it's getting something tat one feels most comfortable b it handling, looks, power, cost & maintenance, etc. however, it's true most of us get attracted by looks first.

it is interesting to note that nobody voted for highest top speed but many buyers like to ask whats the top speed of the bike when they are buying a bike.

those who ask abt top speed r bikers who have not tried as for those who bought liao n already tried will realised that we hardly will ride at that speed. also sports bike of the same cat all aga aga the same.

btw for me comfort level more important 'cos ride kinda 100km or more on a daliy basis.

Almost 2 weeks of owning my current sportsbike, I can say that I made the right choice. After analyse my financial, needs I decided to get this bike coz of the very low mileage, pricing, condition, aftermarket parts, looks and a no. of bike magazines rated it highly and the pricing is just nice at the max for my budget. :lovestruck: :cheer:

Be happy always :-)

Hi LS,

For me, there is no single factor, but a host of them. Weigh in this and that.

It's gotta steal my heart, that's for sure.

Power wise for litre bikes, they're all enough for me, so I don't really think too much about that.

The techie bits on the bike of course. I think the Blade by far, has the most technologies in there. eDamper, unit pro link, mass certralization, hydraulic clutch, even the plastic tank cover is a wonder I think.

Quality, attention to detail, and how much passion was poured in while making the bike is also very important for me.

I did contemplate on getting the K5, am still contemplating tho. But when I saw it up close, I thought the glossy paint finish on the engine cover looks horrendous. 1 small bit there and it absolutely spoils the whole bike.

Also the clutch feels a bit loose, like on an age old Hayabusa I once tried.

What the heck I thought, if it's an interim bike. I'm still conning myself to like it tho.

PS. Saw you on the caught in the rain the other day on the 954.

Literbike power/handling/speed are almost the same. Only the most pro rider can differentiate them, or maximize the full potential.

Maintenance wise, also almost the same.

So it all boils down to 2 things for me.

1. Looks.

2. How I feel when I mount the bike.

For me the value of the bike. Example : Can the bike i buy now still got value in the next 5 years. If its HOnda it should be no problem cos the engine is build to last long and Honda value wont drop so steep.

Next will be the comforbility. Then the Outlook. Lastly the speed. 1 litre bike are all fast. How fast can you go in singapore road?

That my opinion guys...

For me I'm only 2B, so I pick looks. Since going to upgrade in like 2 years time, maybe even 1 year, but I doubt.

I'm currently in the preliminary stages of my class 2 sportbike purchase. Sniffing around so to speak.

I've narrowed it down to 4, i think the selection speaks for itself.

1) Ducati 916/996/998

2) Ducati 999

3) Mv Agusta F4 750/1000

4) Aprilia RS-V

Brand new or 2nd hand, i dunno yet. V-twin or I4, i'm leaning towards v-twin. Maintenance? HA. Fuel economy? HA. Performance/handling? I think their limits are all way above my skill level.

It will all boil down to which bike gives me the biggest hard-on when i sit on it.

Those who risk nothing, do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.
