Help Needed! Demerit 24 points, Charged For Traffic Offence

Hi friends,

 

I was hit by a lorry as I rode my bike back home after work just outside my company. I suffered minor injuries and had made a traffic report. In the end, I was charged for violating traffic rules with demerit 24 points and fined $3000. I wonder if the offence is so serious that lead me to be demerited for full points and have to pay for this ridiculous amount of fine. Can any expert advise? Anything i can do to reduce the sentence?

You XXX charged for riding in a manner which was dangerous to the public having regard to all the circumstances of the case, including the nature, condition and use of the road and the amount of traffic which was actually at the time or which might reasonably be expected to be on the road, to wit, by riding against the flow of traffic and resulted in a collision with motor lorry and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under section 64(1) of the road traffic act chapter 276.

 

Went to the court for hearing last week and need to go next week for verdict.

y you make traffic report if you are driving against traffic? having said that, 24 pts is a lot

I guess since u already went for the hearing there really nothing you can do. You can try getting a lawyer to appeal.

 

I agree with ber. You should have tried to settle it privately when clearly you are at fault.

lucky enough not more than 24. jus pay d $3k n carry on. lawyer? $3k + lawyer fee. u decide

I was riding on the shoulder of the double lane as there were a jam near the traffic light. The lorry truck failed to signal and made a sudden turn and knocked me down. I did explain to the officer but I didn't expect this turn out to be committing "serious" offence. I reported police just to make sure i can claim medical insurance.

 

Feel so helpless.
