Hi Folks

I am n00b to the bike world and will be buying my first bike from a dealer here in SG. I am going for a used GSR400 and will be paying close to $11k. my question is what all "freebies" can you expect from the dealer without looking like an idiot. new tires?, oil change? etc. any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

From pt of view... it depends on the seller has ethic or not.. of cos when nego price don give v low price else many things he wont tell u... I basically trusted all seller on what they told me except certain things its obvious like tyre going to botak, seller claims can still go 6mths.. jus by this I will doubt basically everything he say...

And ask everything u wanna know cos owner don know what u wanna know... I only purchase once from shop as my first bike.. after that I all buy from pte seller... my recent purchase was good deal very cheap bike in very good condition just mileage hi... good luck

If u have the cash, buy from private seller will be cheaper a lot. The common reason ppl buy from shop is either they need to pay by installment, or that's a very rare bike to find from private market.

Try to test the bike and ask many questions to seller. Look at the condition of the bike and u can likely determine if seller takes good care of the bike or not. With the amount of money u saved from buying from private seller, set a side part of it for troubleshooting the bike, and I think u will be good to go.

if the bike u bought from a pte seller has just minor issues, the money u saved from the diff between shop and pte seller should be more than enough to cover..and if u managed to get a good one, the money saved can be used to "chng" your bike also.

GSR400 for $11k is really high. I'm still contemplating whether to get my bike from shop or private owner.

For my case, its a difference of $2000 SGD if i get from dealer ($11000) or private owner ($9000).

With the extra $2000 SGD, I get the assurance

1) Bike condition looks superb (Engine, Paint, Parts, Tires)

2) A small space at the workshop to store all my stock parts, ease of inspection, dealer willing to change out my parts for free every year

3) Quite a good deal since mileage is only 38000Km instead of bikes in the open market where it clocked about 60,000 to 100,000KM

4) 1 Month Warranty

5) FBJ*69*K (Number plate not too bad, hehe)

All the bikes (the one i'm looking for) are in a 6/10 condition. The one at the bike shop is a 9/10 condition. He willing to help me touch up the bike to my liking too. Spray rims, change to slim IU Unit, etc.

Yes, agree that the bike shop earns. But i get an ease of mind. Not sure whether the ease of mind is worth $2000 SGD, LOLs.

Any senior riders can advice?

Seems like you already made the decision. If you are the independent and patient type to deal with problems, go for private seller. if not, go to a shop for peace of mind. If you are buying from a shop, don't bother with the 1 month warranty, most shops don't honor this and they will ask you pay. Doesnt make sense, but its true.

You can do a lot with $2k. - repairs, mods, etc. I'd prefer to buy from pte buyer. Better deals available out there.
