Just got 1 01R1 recently and having problem moving off.. It seems that the riding method is very much different from a S4. I could release clutch as soon as i could feel the bike move for s4 but not for this big guy. And i have problem moving off up slope (bike jerking like lack of power). Is this normal or is there something wrong? anyone can help?

Try to trottle up abit more dude.... Guess you are just not used to the trottle control as the power is different.

If the jerking persist... I suggest you get the bike checked at the shop where you bought it from.

Hope this helps

from my own experience wif dis bike...

due to the taller first gear, u need to slip the clutch more as compared to smaller bikes such as phantom or s4 (i hv also ridden these). dis means that u will b in half clutch mode longer than wad ur used to.

the bike doesn't like anything less than 2k rpm. the shudder gets worse if u tried to go past 1/3 throttle.

in fact, at less than 4k rpm, if u tried to go past 1/2 throttle it also shudders.

i've learnt to ride around these characteristics.

when moving off, if ur not in a real hurry, just open the throttle a little n slip the clutch, allowing it to finally bite b4 smoothly increasing the throttle. smoothly is the word here. try not to upshift at less than 3k rpms. ur riding a sportbike, the designers assume u'll b riding it somewhat spiritedly. gear shifts above 4k rpms tend to b very smooth.

if u need to get away fast, aim to rev past 3k rpm as u go into half clutch, then smoothly open the throttle more as u let the clutch out fully, also in a smooth manner. watch out for wheelies.

works for me everytime. leaves everybody for dead if u so wish (except other class 2 bikes playing wif u). the bike is really designed for work above 4k rpms (tested response at track). less than that, keep the throttle opening small.

assuming ur bike has no major transmission problems...

for comparison, the fazer1k doesn't hv these issues. must b the design thing again (detuned engine for better low end response).

enjoy!

If it's the bike, then you got a screwed up R1 cos it aint suppose to be that way at all. not for an R1 , not for any bike.

Sorry I have to say this, but please do practice more before you go on the roads with your R1, you may hurt someone and/or yourself.

Many class 2A riders upgrade from a 400cc to a 900cc or more (which can be easily 3 times more powerful). Their riding habits remain those for a 400cc and they get into deep ****. tip: there's a lot a lot a lot to do with throttle control.(for lower cc bikes, you just open big big also wont matter.)

Just advising you so that your bike wont end up one of those we often see in the bikeshop all smashed up. Usually the mech would reply, "oh this fella just got his bike and crash etc...."

Please do not take this as i'm cursing. I apologise if it may sound that way, i'm just too straight talking and dont like to beat around the bush.

take care, enjoy your ride.

I agree wif u, I am practice alot in mscp... anyway i just came back from the workshop.. just found out my previous mechanic reversed the air inlet tube (to carb) causing my bike to choke, lost of power and etc.. everything back to normal for now...

Thanks for sharing, Below are some of the problem found related to this thread

1) Clutch Plate worn off - Moving off no grip = no power (Changed by ASP)

2) Carb tuning - Timing all wrong (Retuned by Ah beng)

3) Carb air inlet connector - Reversed=Low air input (Found by ASP)

4) 4 Plug wet + white smoke in carb - Piston related problems (Now engine overhaul)
