你 - nei/lei (pronunciations think based on generation/origin)

我 - ngor

他 - ta

巨 - hui (not exactly this chinese word, need to add a "人"字旁 - means "him")

有 - yao (same writing but without the 2 horizontal strokes inside is "mo" as in "don't have" - only seen in cantonese writing, not sure is "chinese" word or not as i dun know the hanyu pinyin to check electronic dictionary)

没 - mood

无 - mo

是 - si/see

的 - teck

食 - sek

吃 - yat/had (seems to have 2 pronunciations as well)

饮 - yum

喝 - halt

有得顶 - (note the 有 is without the 2 horizontal strokes inside) mo tak teng as in cannot be bested

一个人 - yat kor yan (may be pronounced as yat kor yarn where kor and yan are 1 tone higher, depending on the sentence structure)

i kinda think hum ba-lang/su ma are not exactly one of those traditional cantonese words. i could be wrong though. may be deviated from some local dialects just how how our market (巴刹) was derived from the malay word pasat. try using them to guangzhou or hong kong folks and see if they understand.

fyi, if you watch hk productions and hear the word "see tor" or the signboard saying 士多, it is not a "traditional" cantonese word. it is hong kong specific. it was sound-derived from the word "store" which is our mamashop.

Eehh, it does not mean you are 100% if you are from Hong Kong. HK is a mix of different dialect groups. Cantonese is their spoken language but may not represent their dialect. Only if you are from Guangzhou, then you can consider urself a pure Cantonese.

Why I know, My family moved from Guangzhou to HK , then to SIngapore. BUt does it really matter? We are all citizens of the world. All Chinese unite.

Check this thread out. I am creating a club of bikers for bikers. This is for intercultural intergration. Come on in, fellow bikers.
