Lets stick to coe issues here...

Coz ppl starts bragging about their achievements but forget there are other successful person.

So u got a job earning 10k a month then start telling ppl off how to run the life... Then come another earning 20k a month telling u how to run the life (but then u cant due to whatever reasons)

Then come another earning 30k so on and so on...

Then u forget the rice that u eat... It did not come from the hard work of millionaire or even me (and u)

Moral of the story

If u r not here to help, stop bragging about ur achievements

Honestly, even with the rise of coe... I still could buy the 30-40k machine. Still young... Pes a... No sickness.... My mc I use to have fun n relex....

But i'm being selfish not to think of the less fortunate...

U see a gundang garam. Both the same but one price at $1 and another at $10... The mama shop will tell u, "$10 gundang garam I give u paper receipt ". Which would u choose? Even if ur earnings could buy that $10 gundang garam.

We r all keyboard warriors, but even that is useful to bring the "voice"(word) out....

Coe wont go away coz its the biggest revenue to singapore but to squeeze the less fortunate dry.... Some1 needs to voice out (opposition party)

You don't need an MP to take a motorbike to understand your problem. You just need an MP that can empathise with the general public, and dares to speak out. We've had MPs speak out against high property prices and high gov salaries, and of course, none of these MPs who spoke out are from the PAP.

Buying from the 2nd hand market is not really the answer. The high COE prices is reflected also in the prices of the 2nd hand bikes. Most sellers will set his asking price based on the price of a new bike. Anyway, after a few years, all 2nd hand bikes will also have been bought with a high COE, so you still end up paying for the high COE.

And no, as long as the current system remains unchanged, the prices will not drop much due to the artificially restricted supply of COEs and the bike dealers bidding the prices up. The system has to change.

Any MP take motorcycle to parliament or to work?

Or how many MP really take public transport to work?

I think what we can really do now to fight high COE is just to get a 2nd hand bike first.

Let those who really need new bike and those who transition from car to bike get it first.

After a while when all in place i think COE will drop ba, unless they control bike quota again.

Voicing out in itself is useless. The current gov will just say that the current system is effective and no need to change. Eg, the recent decision from the senior minister of state for transportation, Josephine Teo: http://www.tremeritus.com/2015/02/20/josephine-teo-current-coe-system-to-stay/

What is needed is to change those people responsible. it will take time, but it will happen eventually. Practically all ruling parties fall and change after 50-60 years. PAP's time is almost up.

I concur. ;)

That is optimistic. In my teens, what I gathered from the regular coffeeshop sessions with middle aged uncles is that MPs are exempted from paying COE. Do not hold me to that though.

It doesn't matter if 5000 or 500000 people are looking at this discussion. As long as the gov does not want to change the policies, all this talk is just "discussing war plans on paper", and nothing will happen.

As I've said many times, the only way to have any effect is at the ballot box. That's the power of democracy. Vote in more people who can identify with the public's problem, not "elite" millionaires who are so out of touch and so overpaid that a $5,000 COE is only 1-2 day's salary for them.

I don't fully agreed with you! Now the views is 5,107 for this thread!

Who is looking into this discussion???

They should tweak the system that COE must be by individual rather than dealers? Everybody who wants a vehicle must get their own COE same for both car and motorcycle. The reducing of Cat D and move to other cat doesnt make sense to me as motorcycle does not contribute much to jams.

The amount you bid for must be deducted immediate from your bank account. In other words you should have the money before you bid. And also must make COE is purely by CASH and not LOAN.

The current surge is due to the decreasing number of COE and the packaging of the loan structure.

I think besides considering the drop in the supply of COE as the cause, the increase in the demand should also be a factor for the hike.

Is there a hike in the demand? Anyway to find out?

Yes, LTA publishes the number of bids for the COE. The number of bids represents the demand.

It maybe also dealers rushing to fulfill pre CNY sales cos usually people will like to have new things before a new year.

True. This may explain the $5000+ COE, but does not explain the $4000+ COE which has been at that level for the past year. Even at 4K+, it's still too high.

Personally I don't feel cyclist as a problem yet cos:

1) No cyclist are allowed on the expressway

2) Unlike motorcycles, cyclist usually rode on the side of the road. They may slow down the traffic, but won't be the cause of a jam. Unless they ride in a mass then that will cause a congestion, which seldom happens on a peak hour.

Maybe we switch to bicycle

Ya lor, can consider. Can modified look like a real bike with speed of 300km/hr+++

Can put sticker hayascooter on it with golden S8 nos plate. Petrol up how much also don't worry.

-No COE

-No ERP

-No Road tax

-Don't need Insurance

-Don't need season parking

-Don't need to pass riding licence

-Don't need after 10 years need to scrap

-On the road transform to scooter, on the walkway transform to bicycle and act blur

-Can go in lift and park inside or outside house as you like, with 2 big cctv shooting at your lovely bike

True but that does not stop them from doing it. Few years back saw about seen about 3 to 4 cyclist cycling on the expressway shoulder. It became a daily sight at that particular location. Not sure if anything had been done though as I do not travel that route daily now.

I thought TP said maybe bicycle 2 wheel and motorcycle 2 wheel the same ma..

And nowadays so many look alike e-bike on the road..

Some will act like they are riding motorcycles. Lanesplit to the front but when the light turns green pretty much holds up the traffic. Best are those that go on pavement then to the road and so on. Traffic light red go pavement and when green go back to the roads and vice versa. ;)

Maybe we switch to bicycle
Been riding bicycles for years before acquirin a motorcycle. An upgrade? Does not seem like so.

lol at those people who are still considering COE existence is something to solve congestion by making bicycle COE. I can't help laughing at the above 3-4 posts .

If its meant to solve the problem, they would had spent the annual billions profit from COE on upgrading road to supply more quota.

I believe I had written a bulky post few months back on a rough estimation how much the COE system can profit the government at almost negligible operating cost.

The system was made for maximum profit. stop taking for fool by the pretentious reason provided to make the road better, for social welfare. IT HAD NEVER SOLVE CONGESTION NOR ANY SOCIAL PROBLEM! In fact its making congestion worse by increasing car coe supply more by converting bike coe to car's, as car COE can be bided at a far higher price.

LOL. pls stop the discussion. COE and congestion are really 2 separate issues. Like I always said COE is actually car ownership tax in disguise. They want to keep the impression that Singapore have low tax. low income tax. thats why they use other system to tax people, these system are renamed more friendly liked than 'tax', such as "CERTIFICATE OF XXX, CPF etc etc" but they are just another form of tax. I REPEAT ITS NOT FOR SOCIAL WELFARE, IT IS NOT TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER, ITS FOR PROFIT VIA TAXING.
