hardisk memory getting less

hi chk w u guys my laptop hardisk memory getting less. everytime when i on the pc it pro me to update. After update the memory getting less. may i know how to solve it?

 

beside when i on my pc it took min to go into the window. izit the ram problem or....

Usually if RAM problem, windows will show BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). But it is a possibility. From what you said, I don't get it, it is Harddisk or RAM? Both are two totally different components.

 

If Harddisk, after an update, the storage space on the harddisk will get smaller as update files are being installed and copied to your harddisk. It's like you installing games on your PC, the storage won't increase.

 

If you are talking about RAM, the memory. It could be due to Spywares or Viruses. Please do a scan and also to remove any unwanted programs. Most programs are loaded into memory upon start up.

Have you tried configuring the software settings so that it doesn't auto update? For example you can disable Windows update by right clicking on "My Computer" -> select Automatic Updates and select the "Turn off Automatic Updates" radio button.

 

Maybe you should also let us know what is/are the actual software(s) doing the auto update so that we can advise accordingly.

 

You may also try ending the process from Windows Task Manager while it is updating.

If hard disk insufficient storage space, just try to clean up all those useless junks taking up the storage space. Junks can be those useless programs, temporary files and folders etc...

If start up is slow for you, it can mean that you have too many start-up program. Try disabling those unnecessary start-up programs.

Btw, what's your HDD storage space and RAM size?

You can disable some startup by running this command:

Click START, RUN and type msconfig and hit ENTER.

You will see a STARTUP TAB at the TOP RIGHT.

Tick is ENABLE, UNTICK is DISABLE.

 

 

This is my personal point of view to solve your case:

1. Backup your files to an external USB HDD or whereever.

2. Wipe off the entire HDD and install a fresh clean OS.

3. Partician C: 30% and D: 70%. This is in case next time you may want to re-install the HDD again and this would not destroy anything in D:

3. After OS installed, install Anti Spyware, Anti Virus and then connect to the internet and run update.

4. You should be able to see your computer run faster since there are not much in your registry.

Hi,

After you run the MSCONFIG, it'll ask for reboot of PC to take effect.

When you reboot, before the desktop settle down, there will be a grey box showing you want to see the MSCONFIG thing you've just changed.

 

Yes, you can ENABLE or DISABLE as many time as you wish.

 

Er.. RAM... I think the more expensive the better. No doubt.

But can your system use DDR or DDR2 RAM?

Not any RAM can be insert into any notebook.

Best is to bring to SIM LIM and check a shop name CONVERGENT I think... Specialist in Kingston RAm and warranty for life.

I am sorry for I do not use Yahoo mail.

But I did a check with google, and this is what I found.

Was it winmail.dat ? Was it abc.xls or was it abc.zip

Hey bros,

 

Do be extra careful not to un-tick apps this way.

You can do so for "useless" apps such as (eg) Quicktime, MSN Messenger, etc..

 

But when it comes to others with names containing "Antivirus", "Windows blah blah", better to not touch.

 

Better still, if unsure -- do not touch at all. Seek assistance and let us have a look at ya list before we decide what to tick/un-tick.

Wang Zi, I think I know what ya mean.

Click but no "Saving File" dialog box rite?

 

Try using Internet Explorer for a change. See whether that works. If not, re-enable popup or download features.

If all else fails, the crudely effective way to combat this prob is to switch to Firefox.

1. you're using IE 7 as your default browser.

At your INTERNET EXPLORER, on the RIGHT SIDE, click the TOOLS, and the 2nd line you should see a POPUP BLOCKER. You can TURN ON/OFF it.

 

As for Internet Explorer 5 or 6 may be different.

 

2. Close Explorer and login to your yahoo mail again and see if you're able to open the attachment.

But bro, do you ever see some thin yellow bar peeking out from the top of the page when you try to download the file.

 

This is odd

Do tell us what happens when you click to download the file.

Vince, I think he has some 3rd party popup blocker like Norton Anti Spyware or he might have JavaScript disabled. Some websites do use JavaScripting for their buttons on their page and stuff like that.

 

I'm predicting, when either conditions are true, clicking the button doesn't do anything...Whadya think?
