Was looking in hardwarezone's classifieds, and I saw several guys selling their handphones and stating that theirs come with warranty unfilled.

What does it mean to us buyers? Does it mean that I can go to the service centres with the handphone i bought (with an unfilled warranty) and then the warranty starts from the 1st time i service teh handphone?

I was thinking surely there are more than one way for the service centre to check the 'selling date' of the handphone, right?

Can anyone enlighten me, please?

now warranty card doesn't make a difference laioz

like what zniper said, u just tell them u lost your warranty card, they will scan in the serial number and get the approximate date of ur purchase

when photographers deal with cameras and lenses, we usually also dun fill in warranty card. cos it's useless. to send in for servicing, they need the receipt. so the receipt bears your date of purchase. else, you just send back to the shop u buy from. they will send in to repair for u

therefore, warranty card is these days, is useless... just chuck into 1 corner

i guess then the unfilled warranty part can only be taken with a pinch of salt. I mean it would be really 'suay' if the handphone spoils n somehow the service centre manages to verify that the handphone's warranty has long expired.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

it depends.

for some brands (dont wish to mention which ones), they do not keep track of the IMEI number of the phones they bring in, therefore, the warranty card is the proof of warranty. but of course, you dont bring a phone which is launched 5 years ago & tell them that you want to repair the phone with an unfilled warranty card lah.

For other major brands, they do keep track of the IMEI numbers of the phone that is brought in by the authorised distributor. now they also request that you keep the receipt as a proof of purchase.

how i know? cos i deal in handphones.

Tip for you. when you buy a 2nd hand phone, check the IMEI number of the phone & make sure it tallies with the IMEI number on the box & the warranty card.

P.S to check your IMEI number, press *#06#

MOst of the unfilled warranty i came across are warranties that are clean, no dates and no company chop. The basic thing u need on a warranty card is at least a company chop. This way, they can trace the phone back to the shop that sold the set. They can check the date of sales if it is really necessary. but usually without warranty card, the manufacturer will simply base it on the phone's manufactured date or the date of the last software upgrade.
