The road from Mae Chaem to Khun Yuam is fantastic, poised over the edge of the mountain range all the way.

It was pretty rough in some sections when I rode it about 4 years back.

The pictures got me wondering whether its time to give the MHS another go.

cannot agree more. end of the year, will be riding up to laos. trying to see if can squeeze in some time to sidetrack to NT/MHS again. woohoo!

You can borrow some travel guidebooks (lonely planet, frommers, fodor, rough guide, insight...) from the library to find out more about Thailand, eg food, sights, lodgings.

There are a few budget airlines to choose from, airasia (bangkok), jetstar (bangkok, puket) and tiger airways (bangkok, chiangmai, udon thani, puket, krabi, hat yai). You can check their websites for air tickets prices.

1-cheap shopping

I guess bangkok is the top choice for shopping.

2- buy bike stuff

Maybe limbat can give some tips

3 - eat good (halal) food and enjoy the scenery

Regarding food, our Muslim bros should be able to give you a better reply. North Thailand is usually associated with beautiful scenery.

4 - avoid troubled areas and avoid bombs or dangerous situations

Try to avoid South Thailand.

Hey.. mate am jus glad to share - pls book airtickets early - Tiger can get very expensive during festival period. I booked my return ticket 3 months back they cost s$270 plus travel insurance.

C'mai is an international resort city, hotels prices varies from TB250-5,000 & during any festivals there will be a surcharge. Just stay any where near the NightBazzar & you will be near all the Loykrathong activities. Car/Van rentals are pretty standard - prices are posted in most shop. I remembered renting a New Honda Jazz for abt TB1300 per day. Most of the time we rent scooters or Waves for abt TB120-TB150 per day.

Now I got a 12 seater Van & Driver for abt TB1100 per day - he will be driving us to Maesalong. If u are thinking of doing a day-trip out of C'mai & back - u can try renting those Red colored pickups - but must bargain.

Cheers

Tiger is now charging about $450 for return air tix with taxes, but I got it for much lesser during a promo in Aug. Which hotel/guesthouse will u be staying at? Roughly how much is the airport transfer to the town area? Any bike rental shops to recommend for a reliable cub kia?

Doi Mae Salong is a nice place to chill out, with lots of Yunan nationals and chinese cuisine up in the mountain. Take more photos!

I will be staying at a new hotel near C'mai Gate - Serenity Hotel TG650 including ABF. Most bike shops are ok - check the condition of the bike when u do viewing to rent. Bring a disk lock for additional precaution against theft.
