I think the final drive of 15T -46T sprockets are too powerful. Thought of changing rear to 42T. What you guys think? Anyone tried?

The tested and recommended configuration is 15T - 44T. You may not have enough torque if you replace with 42T.

If I remember correctly SilverBullet had his 46T replace with 44T, maybe he can share his experience.

( I am replacing mine in about a month time. )

my comments using the 15T / 44T sprocket combination :

1. the bike clearly felt less vibeby overall. riding off was smooth n less dramatic n had better control of the bike, rather than trying to hold the horses down. but still enuf power to rapidly pull away at the lights.

2. in fact found the bike so much smoother tat i often rode it on 5th gear, forgetting i had another gear to up shift until i check the acumen.

3. engine revs down 500 rpm at 110 kph (5k instead of 5.5K), 120 (5.5k/6k) n 130 kph (6k/6.5k), etc.

4. speedometer error reduced. speedo slightly optimistic at speeds below 80 kph. about 5 % higher at speeds above 80 kph. previously error was about 10 % higher overall. ie. speedo showing speeds nearer to actual with 44T.

5. odometer now reads about 4 % over. ie. shows more km travelled than actual. pls bear this in mind when calculating fuel consumption.

6. loss of engine braking is very noticeable, n use of the brakes before taking corners is now a necessity for me.

7. minimal improvement in fuel consumption. with the engine being smoother, one tends to ride faster.

do i like the change over from 46T to 44T ?.

YES, the bike is definitely smoother now. numb sleepy fingers gone. excellent for highways and touring.

NO, i hve lost the effects of engine braking.

but you can't hve it both ways.

anyway i am happy with the change.

Totally agreed with myred:thumb:+1

44T is the best compromise and made our V 1st gear usable.

Its just a half day trip to run in my bike. i brought nothing except tire repair kit.

But in general i usually tour alone with my pillon. Full side and top boxes is good for pillon comfort and she will love the side boxes.

No problem with robbery or bike thief in my 10yrs of touring. Ride a cheap bike and dress poor and hang in crowded places. Canvas bike at hotel is ur best protection from thief.

Hi Jason,

The SW-motech racks can be fitted together. The only issue i face is if I have a wider top box, I will not be able to open my side panniers.

Oya are you formerly from MEW?

Roger that side boxes are narrow..OK. I m gonnuse givi V35 sides and givi 55 top. But just went to MAH and both side rack and boxes no stock. waiting time 2 months...sick!

Yes! I ex navy MEW changi in 2002-2004.

Givi side cases snug inside the V chasis which reduce the width compare to SW-motech Trax. Easily to maneuverer during heavy traffic.

As for loading and unloading of cargo, top opening cases is preferred.
