u need to get 2 metal bracket. its a long and flat piece of metal with many holes. there is a screw at the back of your speedometer. attach the bracket to the voltmeter then to the screws at the back of your speedometer and rpm meter. it looks kinda messy but your rxz headlight will cover it.

Hi Brothers!

I have had an Autogauge voltmeter installed by Bro Edward half a year ago.

I am riding a Spec 3 for 20 months now, the battery and rectifier is still stock ones on my bike.

I have done 3 point grounding by Bro Edward also.

Normally, when I start my bike, my voltmeter will indicate 12 to 13. When the bike is moving, it will stay at 14.

Just now, when I started my bike, the reading is 11. I deduce that the rectifier is not charging. After moving off and down the expressway at about 90km/hr, it slowly decreased to 10.

My odometer shows about 38000km of distance covered by my bike.

Is the stock rectifier standard life about this?

Do I need to change my rectifier and battery together?

Or just the rectifier only?

Is our stock battery the wet cell kind? I top up battery water will do liao, is it?

Please advise.

I dare not go JB now, scared go halfway stuck there! Siao liao then. :giddy:

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Looks more like magnetic coil (aka stator) rather then rectifier...

Huh? Bro!

Magnetic coil is where in the bike?

How to rectify the problem har?

Can provide more details?

Thanks thanks!

I think ur batt life is near to the end liaoz. juz change batt... no need to change recf. if after u change batt still not charging to 14V then change recf.

Hi Brothers,

Thank you all for your advice dispensed above.

I just came out of LAB.

I went to change a Japan wet cell battery and Japan rectifier for $100, the voltmeter reading was still haywire then, still at 10.

Then I suspect that all alone, the problem is so simple, the voltmeter is spoiled liao and the reading cannot be trusted one.

But what done is done. So I tried to make myself feel better that my mileage is already 38000km, time to change the battery and rectifier also.

I also went to change a new Autogauge voltmeter from Regina. The reading is accurate, idling at 12, running at 13 - 14.

Total damage today to solve my problem, $134. :giddy:

One word of advice here for those brothers who have a voltmeter on their bike, Autogauge voltmeters are well known to spoil easily, due to wear and tear or water seepage from rain, etc.

So when you see the readings on your voltmeter go haywire, don't kan cheong spider like me, jump into conclusion that battery and rectifier is about to up the lorry. Learnt a slightly expensive lesson today. Hope to share with the brothers here. :cheeky:

Cheers!

Yo, can I ask how long you use ur voltmeter (autoguage) already? :offtopic: coz Im using the auto guage too... scare will come to this problem also thanks! :cheeky:

The Autogauge smokescreen voltmeter lasted for about half a year.

I installed another one, same brand but white faced analog one at $32 at Regina.

I think proper care is needed to keep it working longer, like silicon the areas where water is prone to enter, during heavy rain use a plastic bag and a rubber band to cover up while on the road, etc.

But a lot still depends on the position of your voltmeter, mine is placed at the brake reservoir on the right hand side of the handle bar. Those voltmeters placed between the meters and have protection from rain by windshield should last longer.

The best is just to use a multimetre to check the battery direct. When the bike is off, the voltage is about 12 volts plus. When the bike starts, it increases to about 14 volts. If the voltage is irregular, it's time to change the battery.
