Bike looks good in mag... too bad about the helmet.

Guess looks is more important to him than safety!

Manual written for cold climate....let the engine run for a minute or so and you can ride off at decent speeds but DO NOT rev the sh*t out of the bike for the first few km...u want the oil and engine to get to its operating temp before you do that.

Magneto are for really old bikes, triumphs have been running CDI for a very very very long time now.

are you refering to the oil cooler on the frame near the engine of the rectifier mounted in between your forks beneath the light? either way try not to obstruct airflow

On air filters...never a right or wrong answer, depends on what you want to do and how you want the bike to look. open pods look great and is good for top end but when riding in the rain it could be a problem and bottom end suffers as well....

Thanks for that. Ok I'll look out for the CDI unit - haven't figured out the parts of the bike yet. Can't imagine why the mechanic said magneto. Ya I guess the thingy I mentioned is the rectifier. It's in front of the oil cooler actually, below the headlights, yup, and there's four or five electrical wires running into it. Got to be the rectifier.

- How long should I warm up the bike in the morning? The throttle gets responsive quite quickly and I wonder about overheating the engine, so my standing warm up is about 3 minutes. My previous bike (also air-cooled) required no warm up at all - recommended procedure was to start the bike and "ride off as soon as possible". So I've formed this habit over the years. But I doubt if the same holds true of the Triumph. What do you guys do? Is 3 minutes too short? At least 5?

- Does the bike use a magneto for ignition? The mechanic causally mentioned "magneto" in passing that day. Magneto? For ignition? Is it a Triumph thing?

- What is this thing I see on the TriumphRat forum about getting rid of the airbox and installing a better set of filters (air filters?) - is that sound procedure?

Hi,

Congrats on your new ride....

Warming up of engine is to allow the engine oil to circulate before your ride. A couple of minutes is good.

I suppose you're referring to airbox snorkel? Many riders have it removed, more air access to airbox. Freer flowing air filter such as K&N, Twin Air and many more are worthy investment. But if you current air filter is like sponge, it should be good. More air does not equates to more power, air/fuel mixture is important.

Clean air and clean oil is a cheap source of insurance for your bike.

Cheers...
