Hi.. all the experts of SBF,

Pls any kind soul would advise me of the following:

1) My brother would like to purchase a used bike for me, register and transfer under his name. But he does not possess a motorbike class licence, only a class 3 licence. Can the transfer of ownership be able to carry out or does LTA accept someone to own a bike without a motorcycle class licence?

2) If above is allowed by LTA, how about insurance? Does Insurance Co accept my brother's purchase of motor insurance (without class 2B) and insert my name as sub-rider? Or can i purchase the motor insurance myself on his bike eventhough I'm not the registered owner?

P/S: Due to some "reasons" i am unable to register a motorbike under my name, thus above scenario takes place. I myself have a valid class 2B and 3 driving licence.

Would be greatly appreciate if anyone over here can enlighten asap, cos' already interested in few option used bike in this forum, hoping to get one b4 its taken up...

All the Best to SBF

Hi SparkerS1,,

Thanks, whether c0000nfus3d or not, you have put in great effort to assist on this particular topic, appreciated. Before writing on this forum, i did asked around from friends and buddies, but also came with different answers and views, meaning that i actually already c000nfus3d very much earlier ,, haha..

Anyway, what you are trying to say is that, if my brother will to buy me a motorbike register under his name, he will need to possess a valid Class 2B license. Even with a Class 3 license also cannot. Am i right?

Well, just wait and see if there is other good adviser here to further enlighten me on this topic..

Thanks and Best Regards.. Cheers!

If u're buying from a shop by installment, and u're below the shop's required age, you need to get someone with 2B licence to buy the bike for you. But if not, I don't think LTA has a rule that should restrict you from registering a bike as your own. Maybe if you know the "reasons", and u tell us, it'll help even more.

Hi, all the good riders on earth,

Thanks alot on this topic issue. I had finally obtained an answer from NTUC Income. I wrote to them and the reply is "Yes" and "no problem".

1) A person is allow to "own" any car or motorbike, as long he has a valid driving license, regardless of the classes.

2) The motor-insurance would be under the registered owner's name, and i will be added in as a sub-rider.

Hope this info also benefit others who has the same case like me. Now can happily move on to used bike sales corner to hunt for a bike ... :thumb:
