"R6 is a fascinating bike" yes you are right. :-

Take an older gen R6 out for a spin and switch back onto the 06 model and you will immediately feel the difference (weight/agility/power). Although the dry weight is the same on both machines, the weight distribution on the 06 provide a very much different feel in handling and manuoverity. Its pinpoint agility is simply fantastic, but some riders do not like it to be too nervous either.. To each his own.

"i heard R6 is a high rev bike." Definitely is:-

The power band is very much wider and pulls much stronger then the previous models. 1-1 with the previous generation motorcycle in stock trim, and you can see/feel the difference. Anything before the 10~12k mark on the 06R6, the older R6 pulls away. But once you hit the power band, you can see the 06 climbing towards the previous R6. (Disclaimer... self tested with another stock R6). This makes the usable power much wider on a wide variety of bends on the track.

As for a road commuting motorcycle, actually 600cc of any bike is pretty very much decent to overtake and pulls from anything on a 90kmh max road in SG. I guess you would be looking at fuel consumption/comfort/heat etc etc.. Some figures from my experience are:-

1. HOT like mad! Especially the shin area

2. abt 16.5km/l on SG roads (80% on freeways)

3. Not very comfortable for me as long as i ride for more than 30mins. (posture). I got weak neck n back

I personally feel the older R6 and the new GSX-600/750 is better in terms of commuting and long distance trips as its posture is slightly more upright, with a much more "stable" feel and not as nervous at above 220kmh. But neither are they lousy in handling n power. They are fast mean machines man as i witnessed 750 doing 299 on a bend!#$

If you need to carry alotta things (bag/raincoat/laptop/blah blah), this bike's got no proper space to handle anything and neither is the tank flat to put something. (I used to put helmet/laptop etc etc on my tank on older bikes.. at least they are more stable :p) I can't even fit a proper raincoat/pant/shoe cover under the 06R6 rear seat! I know previous gen R6 n the new GSX-600/750 can put

1. rain coat

2. ERP unit

3. tire repair kit

4. exhaust baffle

5. tire pump

6. insurance n rd tax documents + coupons

Mix n match and you can def squeeze at least 3~4 items of the above mentioned.

Overall, this soul captivating motorcycle (it captured my in Sept 2005) has got what its made for. Torque & agility. A breakthrough for a 600cc road production motorcycle in 2006, with stock suspension of much better stiffness and tuning capabilities than its predecessors for a road going motorcycle. Braking power n braking feel is also very much improved from its brake pump.

Personally. i think it would be great it you have an alternative transport if you own the 06R6. But if budget does not allow, those small "cons" can definitely be overtaken by the "pros" that it delivers. I missed my VFR thats so good for commuting n touring, yet I did not have SUPER fun on the track/B-roads like i have now on the R6. End of the day, you have to decide the ride you want. No bike can handle/provide/cover every aspects of riding.

Hope my grandfather story helps you in a way or another.

We would be glad if to have another R6 member in our family!! Yippeee...

Ride hard & safe...

400 to 600, 200cc difference

600 to 1000, 400cc difference

but the amount of power increase is not double...

the r6 can reach top speeds of up to 290, and a done up bike can do more....but this bike not designed for top speeds...it weighs as much as the rvf

turning radius on the roads is bad.....u turn very troublesome as it requires banking the bike......

rvf weight very centralise making it an ideal track bike....still very popular in the UK.....r6, feels heavy in the front....but the tyres can take it....

rvf very low, r6 very high.....suspensions are better...

on the road u rev to rpm 8 already feels very noisy...but on track is about 16k rpm at all times....

Don't just break your laptimes, SHATTER them!!

i find my suspension very stiff too!! a little too stiff for comfort actually but i guess that's to compensate for agile and precise handling. is that correct? cuz every bump on the road i can feel it.

oh ya, on SG roads i managed to get about 20-21 km per litre on my R6, which i find quite acceptable.

For those that is still thinking......

Seeing double on that wobble?

Tank slappers can be fatal, so here's how you can minimise danger By Zaihan Mohd Yusof

October 01, 2006

WHILE exiting a corner and accelerating hard, your front tyre hits a bump.

Suddenly, all hell breaks loose. Your handlebar starts to wobble uncontrollably.

You realise that wrestling the possessed handlebars only makes the shaking a lot worse.

What's going on?

Well, this is a classic example of a tank slapper, or headshake.

If you survive this scary phenomenon, it would make an excellent story to tell your mates at the coffeeshop.

A tank slapper usually happens when your front tyre briefly lifts off the tarmac, then regains traction outside the rear tyre's alignment.

When the front tyre touches the road again, it will start to bounce and deflect quickly. Unless your bike's steering geometry is able to damp-out the oscillations, the wobbling will only get stronger.

In some cases, your hands could be ripped off the handlebars.

In others, your feet could be flung off the footpegs.

Either way, the chances of crashing your machine are great.

What to do? Start praying.

Seriously, pray that you keep a cool head and not do something foolish like accelerating.

According to a race manager, accelerating increases the vibrations.

Said Mr Andrew Morrice, 38, from Team Mezzo (a road-racing team): 'You can get tank slappers coming out of corners or on straight roads. When it happens, you would need to ease off the throttle. With less speed and power, it will be a matter of time before the shaking becomes less violent.'

JUST DON'T PANIC

If you watch motorcycle races on TV, like The Isle of Man TT or MotoGP, you will notice that headshakes are common.

Yet, the talented racers don't seem to panic or crash.

Call it experience. Or it could just be because of the steering dampers on their race bikes.

Steering dampers, sometimes no bigger than a magic marker, help to take the punishing shakes from the handlebars.

One part of a steering damper is bolted to the bike's frame, while another is attached to the fork.

Dampers do all the work of damping out deflections. But they're not the final cure for tank slappers.

You would need to adjust the stiffness of the steering dampers to get the right amount of damping.

You can get a decent steering damper for as little as $400, minus the mounting kit, said Mr Shah Oli from BikeTech 21.

On some motorcycles, steering dampers come standard.

AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT

Said Mr Shah: 'You can't fight a tank slapper on your own, no matter how strong your hands are.

'A steering damper minimises the shaking, but will not stop it immediately. You would need to slow down your bike's speed.'

Mr Shah, 46, was one of the unfortunate souls who experienced a violent tank slapper.

He was riding at 200kmh at the Pasir Gudang race circuit when his throttle jammed.

Instinctively, he pulled hard on the brakes. But with the rear tyre still spinning and pushing, it caused the already compressed front suspension to wobble.

Mr Shah added: 'My handlebars went left, right, left, and that was it. I was thrown off the motorcycle and I kept sliding for about 100m. I fractured both feet and my bike was destroyed.'

Yes the stock bike comes with very stiff setup. Take some time to set your ride sag and slowly do up the compression rebound as you ride. It should track well after that.

20km/liter? how teach me!! :cheer:
