eh..how come u get such problems. ur bike is new rite? you cant juz go hl n service straightaway,they normally ask u book in advance or sumthing. u might wan to try other bikeshop instead

as for ya problem, i think ya shud jus head down to HL and give them a hard time. i dun see a reason why a 08 model, which is supposed to be a improved/rectified model to have such a problem.

 

i'm headin down tml to get my tank side piece exchange, it got broken again. and i hope i can get it change.

The "faulty" TPS issue is not really a HL/bikeshop issue (or rather Yamaha issue). It is more of a technical issue from their supplier. (You'll know when its replaced... just look at the brand). This is a sad problem for Yamaha, HL, bikeshops & finally the end user ....us!

This "issue" as been inherent for generations of R6s, & R1s FZs etc are not spared as most of them utilizes the similar component from the same manufacturer. IMHO, The are various ways that might be able to reduce the issue, if not eliminate the problem.

 

1. Replacing a faulty TPS may solve the problem, it might be something else that causes the TPS to fail. (A fren did some cleaning and sealed up the component for an 03R6 & 05R1... not issues occurred there-after)

 

2) Some bikes had multiple TPS replacements. but some reported that had the TPS symptoms did not get fixed by just replacing the TPS.

 

3) If you are replacing a faulty TPS, check the part number. A newer & revised TPS should carry a new part number. If not, change for what? :giddy

 

4) Enter diagnostics & monitor that the spec value on the throttle of 16 - 100 percent does not change every now and then. (between 15 and 17 with throttle is closed, between 97 and 100 with throttle fully open). If the values are not within the range, TPS might be necessary to be replaced.

 

5) Not every bike has this TPS issue. IF there are bikes w/o this issue at all, this might deduce a quality issue instead of a product issue? The manufacturer probably needs to improve QC? In my ex-Japo company, got problem.... 40k production stop while my whoever is involved in the product before 1st production goes for SERIOUS meeting. (Yes you got it... kanah "buttering" left right center)

As an ex-fleet R&D staff that have to take care of production & QC also, we sometimes experience "head-chopping" meetings on faulty stuffs (everytime got problem always kanah arrow engineer first one..Why... coz the engineer is the one to chut & approve production designs/drawings:cry: ). With 30k~50k monthy productions, its a liiitle while before the issues are rectified.Hence it takes some time.

 

What we can do (or rather my opinion is) since we are pretty a family here, is maybe we can gather the number of "faulty" issues and nicely tok to HL abt it so the MAIN problem is solved and everyone from HL down to us are happy ppl. Probably speeds up the process & benefit our future R6 riders...

 

I strongly urge you go for warranty benefits. Put the cake on their table & ask them.. "if you just reno ur house, your family goes in & live... then the ceiling cracks starts to leak at this month's kinda rainy & cannot ride bike weather..HOW? stay at your house temporarily huh?"

u should go and ask ur bikeshop,normaly your bikeshop can talk better to them even if after warranty and it is tupid imo when a brand new bike and warranty only so little for a time frame. I guess and hope your bikeshop can speak to them and from what i know HL will replaced it as a few of my frends have told me HL customer service was good so long is a brand new bike and got it from them ,they will help to rectify it and tas e exact reason why i buy a Yamaha compare to honda as most of my frends ridinf R1s told me HL has better customer service than Boon Siew.

 

My frend had a 04 r1 las time and had a tps issue only after some time when one of the R1s from a particular got recall so he went even when his r1 is not from that year and they help to rectify it.

wen i went dere to collect my 1 seater last wk, d mech dere told me if we services ur bike at deir plc, dey cn giv us 10, 000 km waranty....

if we do ur servicing at ur bikeshop, dey onli giv 6000km waranty...

and like barongan said, if ya service ya bike with HL, they'll double the warranty period.. which is 12 months or 12000km.. it's sucky to think that bikes are only covered such a short period of warranty

 

however, i think HL is still gonna give hanzi's bike a check, thou his warranty is expired.

btw,got some issues to ask u all pros here...when u all warm up your bike,do u see quite alot of white smoke at about 60degrees when 1st thing warming your bike...and do u all have some water vapour collected on the exhuast...thanks alot..

White smoke while idling from complete cold (i.e left overnight) is pretty common, or when its an extremely cold morning like this month lousy weather.

This due to condensation of water in your components, which basically turns onto gaseous state (vapor) when bike is started with hot gases pumping past the condensation.

 

You should not see smoke once warmed up & ridden, unless the the ambient temp very low, or you just started your bike when parked in rain. (Its all abt rapid vaporisation of water from condensation, like when you speak at low ambient/cold areas... like cameron highlands or during winter ) If you do still white smoke.. then something is terribly wrong.
