Does anyone know how one can covert the video signal for an Xbox (NOT 360) to a DVI input, so that the Xbox can be played on a PC LCD instead of a TV.

Ideally, the converter should have the 3-point input (for HD) and output into a DVI for connection to the LCD monitor.

Any useful suggestions are welcome.

And please, no "go buy tv lcd" type of suggestions, thanks.

try sim lim tower 1st, then sim lim square.

got 2 types. one looks like a vga to dvi type of dongle. ( got to check with the shop whether is dvi signal to rgb. or vice versa, if get the wrong one, it will not work. the one you are looking for will be rgb to dvi.)

another one is a box of sort. which is quite expensive.

Bro, since urs is the 1st gen Xbox, have to get a XGA box.

Its a device that changes the signal from component video to RGB for VGA. You can use a VGA cable to connect to a monitor directly.

Should cost between $60-$70.

For Xbox360 we have the Component AV VGA cable. Direct conversion from Component to VGA.

I dunno if it works for 1st gen Xbox, in ur case.

If you know a buddy who has one, can try it out.

It looks like this:

Original M$ ones cost about $49.90. You can get 3rd-party ones (which are just as safe) for much lesser. SLS is out of stock, last I checked.

I will try SLT when I am free. Thanks for all the input, guys! I never knew that Xbox can be played on a PC LCD.

By the way, would the PC LCD use 480p, 720p or 1080i resolution? My vertical res is only 1050 pixels.

lets say if u are playing with the xbox360 on the pc lcd, and half way through u wanan access to the pc like internet or msn, can that be done without having to pluck and unplug anything ?

For that, you need the XGA box.

Allows multiple input source and switching between them.

Hmmm... my Xbox is not using the standard VGA cable. I'm using the Component cables, with 5 plugs. 2 for audio and 3 for video. RGB lah, Red, Green and Blue cables.

Hope I can find something compatible at SLT.

I think the Xbox 360 one will work.

If I saw one correctly at a nearby shop here at my werkplace, its actually 3 female jacks into 1 VGA & 2 red/white for audio.

Meaning its just a plug-in to your actual cable setup.

Try shop around at those Xbox shops at SLS & SLT.

Funan is also a good try.

Last I check at SLS, only 1 shop knows what I want but out of stock.

Costs about $39.

don't mind me suggesting, you have 5 component cables now, 3 video( RGB) and 2 audio(RW). In the case of what WildCard has suggested using that box and if it requires only 3 normal RCA(Yellow,Red & White), try using your Green as your Yellow and the other 2 for audio.I've tried certain players for certain tvs this way and it works. Some may require some settings first.

But don't the X-box comes with 6 cables instead of 5?I don't own a set of xbox but ps1,ps2 and ps3 I have.Thing is I've seen some customers' players with this sort of connections available.

6 consists of (Video Yellow, Video RGB, 2 audio cables)

5 consists of (Video RGB + 2 audio cables)

Can't remember exactly.

I know it has a yellow Video and 2 audio (red / white). It also has the Component video jacks. I can't remember if its 2 or 3.

I'm using the Xbox component upgrade cables. There's the RGB video cables plus another two red/white for audio.

I lost the original RCA cable so I have to stick with component input.

usually for making it simple for layman to hook up themselves, they put it as 5 cables ( 3 RGB, 2 audio) very very few players have this function whereby their RGB green can be used as YELLOW video rca input.

okay, I kinda went around my house to check out my spare cables and the back of my PC LCD. Since you are ONLY using the Component cables, you need these few

1) VGA to Component cable - 3 coloured video(RGB female) to VGA(male)

2.1) 2 Simple/Normal RCA audio cable (red/white female to male)

or

2.2) 3.5mm audio jack to 2 RCA(female)

Insert your RGB into the Female component cable and your 2 audio cable into 2.1 or 2.2 and you'll end up with a VGA to your laptop and audio 2.1 to your external amplifier OR audio 2.2 audio jack to your PC LCD speakers

Do let me know if you don't get it and want me to take some pics to show you.Because I know I'm bad at putting words in my mind on screen.

Hey thanks for the input. So far am trying to find time to drop by SLS/SLT. Most days I'm working till 5, with night lessons till 10, so there goes my leisure time. Hopefully this weekend will give me some time for my small project.

Heya guys...

Tried out my project last weekend...

Bought a RGB to VGA cable, and some necessary converters...

However, didn't work out. I could not get my LCD to recognize the Xbox video signal... :(
