600 or 400?

Regina seems to have the best deal.

He has sizes for 400 and 600 with stock RK Takasago chain.

But his sprockets are aftermarkets ones, not the stock with rubber lining ones for 400.

Do note tat once change smaller or larger sproket, the Speedo and Odometer will be affected. It will not be accurate anymore. This is because, GSR speed is not measured at the wheel but at the engine side.

To test this is very simple, one using similar teeth sprocket, while the other is using smaller or bigger sprocket. Travel same distance from Point A to Point B. You will see that one will have more/less milage clocked (depending on the sprocket chosen). Thus not accurate anymore. Juz my $0.01.

yeap i understand that the speed will be different.. the speedohealer website, has got the calculator for that rite? jus that i wanted to get a smaller rear sprocket to keep my rpms lower.. i jus feel uneasy tt im at 8000rpm at 130km/h.. if i were to go touring at that speed for like an hour str8, i wldnt feel comfortable. maybe its jus me. or maybe the vibes at the handlebars. anybody interested in getting the motovation balancers? still lovin' the bike tho!

One very easy solution is to add on another digital meter that measures Speed and milage using the front wheel. Saw one at MW, $250 I think. Brand ACTIVE.

Get a 45 rear. That's the safest.

But I must tell you, acceleration will be sacrificed.

For street-riding, the ability to burst into speed is pretty much dampened.

Speed is measured at crank. The speedo sensor is the little black plastic thing that has a wire running into it connected to the front sprocket cover right next to your gear shift pedal.

It essentially a dynamo. Spin faster means generates more electricity means high speed.

Don't have to waste $250.

Less than $50 can get you a good speedo from Sigma (the BC series)that can measure up

to 299 km/h (like a GSR will exceed that rite?).

I've used one before. The BC 1400. Very cool. Has a lot of other functions (average speed, trip mileage, total mileage and top speed captured, useful when you are arguing with TP how fast you were going) and all in computer slightly bigger than a 50 cent coin.

Uses a magnet tied to the front wheel. The speed is calculated based on how many times the magnet passes a sensor tied to the fork and the diameter for the rim.

Advantage - VERY accurate. Perhaps more accurate than GPS.

Disadvantage - Because it has to calculate speed based on number of revolutions of the front wheel, there is a delay between speed updates. 1-2 seconds delay.

so how less wld the rpms be if i were to put the 45 teeth one? how much do they sell it at regina or any other shop?

i do have a cateye velo at home. same functions as ur sigma, jus with no backlight. but...... i dunno how to attach the magnet to the rims, since the magnet supposedly screws onto the spokes of the bicycle wheel. and the magnet is like so small. so how do u manage to tie such a small magnet to the wheel?

btw thanks wildcard.. i really appreciate ur help so far. im trying to make my everyday ride more comfortable and enjoyable and im going malacca soon as well. so im actually scared of travelling higher than 120km/h cos the engine sounds quite stressed. and my FC is like 21km/l. really bad for 400cc bike. actually saw u guys last fri at KKFC. but no one was at the parked bikes and i cldnt recognise anyone of u. in the end i went for the durian outing.. lol.

Depends.

I know stock can be as much as 5% difference (tested with a GPS on a fellow Gisser here).

Mine on 45 was a 2% difference.

Regina charged me $180 for Vaz sprockets (They are pretty good stuffs from Italy. Used with smiles before on my TLR) & RK Takasago X-Rings (stock chain for Suzuki and recommended in the manual by Suzuki) but not gold.

I think he may have the newer XW-Rings for GSR400s.

Very reasonable, if you ask me.

Dun need to.

You can look those small rare-earth magnets.

Look up for a fren of mine in this forum -> ktkt

He should have some leftover stocks of this magnet.

Its so strong, it can wipe out the data off a magnetic contact security pass with a swipe across a pretty good distance away. 2 stuck together? Good luck trying to break them apart.

Neways, these magnets are so strong, you can just stick them to the rim and let it work on its own. No need to tie them or anything.

Alternativey, glueing them using epoxy might work.

No prob man.

Same here. All we want is a great ride.

No prob about KKFC. Just stick around here and look out for the next KKFC outing and just join in.

dude, no worries about stressing the engine.

FC at a sustained 140-160km/h from penang all the way back was about

21-19km/l and so far, there's no problems with the engine.

just do regular preventive maintenance and make sure you get the bike checked

out before the trip & you'll be fine.

mods done:

powerplant device, fuel injector venturis,

underseat cylindrical air filter, bassy stock cans,

super-sensitive in-built gyroscope, inertia-based accelerometer,

streamlined panniers (zero drag),

taped up wires, exposed grounding wires,

TBC mounted, custom tire pressures.

litre bikes watch out! :gun:

Just for info:

Wash bike at gelang patah petronas there and the washer add a SC1 kind of chemical to make the bike shiny, but he also spray to the rim and the chemical stick to brake rotor. Thus making the brake sucks..really sucks..

After some googling, i use zippo on cloth and wipe my brake rotor, brake pad and sand my brakepad. Now my brake work wonders, better then before.

Anyone added STP oil treatment ($7) before to the EO ?, I want to try it for cushion effect when changing gear.

FC 21km/l for a 400cc is considered normal. S4 is having that range as well or even worse when vtec kick in. n this bike is meant for high revving. the higher u rev, the more stable it is. mayb u r not used to it for now.

buy maxima brake contact cleaner (i use zippo, lighter fluid), spray at the rotor & brakepad,

the chemical will eat any oil or grease.

open up the brakepad and sand it with rough sandpaper

next spray GT85 or WD40 at the brake pump.

If brake still sucks, change brakepad.

U might want to bleed the brakes a lil. Not that difficult to do. All u need is just

-a bottle of new brake fluid

-a fishtank air tube/hose.(Clear hose is better as this makes it easier to spot air bubbles)

-a bottle of clean water. (This is jus to wash off spilled fluid on paintworks or discs. )

- size 8 spanner

1)Remove left side panel. This allows access to the rear brake fluid reservoir.

2)Unscrew the top cover of the reservoir and top up a lil bit to it.

3)Remove rubber seal of the rear bleeder nut and attach the fish tank hose to it.(also have a container or empty bottle ready to catch the drainage)

4)Now comes the fun part, depress the rear brake fully and at the same time jus loosen the bleeder just a crack. Notice that brake fluid will flow out slowly. Sumtimes there may be bubble but dun worry. Make sure the brake is STILL FULLY DEPRESSED AT ALL TIMES. Shut off the bleeder and release the brake.

5)Repeat the process several times and ensure the reservoir is not empty.

6)Do it till u c the new or clear fluid. And you are done.

Wiping with lighter fluid over the brake discs helps to remove brakedust and other fluids. Its also relatively easy to remove the rear brakepads. Maybe its easier if i take pics later and add comments to it. :thumb:

Oh Yah. How much for your new pair of tyres? For the BT021 i was quoted $350 at BikeWorks.

Yesterday i clocked more than 100 km already so today i tried some corners...

Wow these tyres really stick! N it increases my lean. I can feel it "guiding me" down as i take a corner.
