Let me be the one who contribute to this thread to make it near to 400 posts .... dun flame me hor. I love this thread becos I am a GSR rider myself. :D Got hooked reading this thread already .... not just for regular chatting but also it houses many informative topics and debates ... especially for noobies like me .... I have learnt quite a lot on engine run in .... warming up is good for engine life ... fuel consumption ...etc

Hope that more topics on GSR will arise .... for example ... daily maintenances for GSR .... modifications/customisation of GSR ...

I am starting to read from page 1 to this end page of this thread ... currently reading up to page 12 only ... more pages to go and hope I can dig out more stuffs about GSR ....

This thread ... to me is like a encyclopedia on GSR .... even if I search for GSR on google ... it shows up as top ten links ... WOW .... incredible!!!

Cheers to all bikers bros here ....

Hope that one day I will be able to join you guys for an outing ...

Good night everyone!

I still have apprehension about the fact that one distance is still further than the other.

It still leaves an unknown variable becoz the whole focus is on the total time taken for warmup.

Especially more on a dyno.

Why?

Insufficient cooling.

No dyno can replicate the actual cooling done by rushing air at a given speed.

One of the rules in hard break-in for bikes on a dyno is cooling.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

all along, the focus is about total time taken for warm up. then the time difference will determine the FC when all other riding conditions r the same.

insufficient cooling. good point brought up. mayb we can have a forced air cooling for the dyno? i do know the difference in actual cooling n a forced air cooling. we are not able to provide that amount of air flow to cool down the bike.

Thus why a proper dyno run takes at least half a day, if not full day.

Why is that important?

http://www.drivers.com/article/848/

So a bike on the dyno spending more distance (time) on the dyno will have different heat factor, affected fuel efficiency. Higher or lower, we would not know.

A differing variable.

Instead, riding at the same distance but with differing warm times eliminates all other variables and keeps to the test purpose: whether total warm-up times affect FC.

talking about heat factor, the engine is designed to run within a certain temp, so call operating temp. taking a GSR 400 for example. operating temp ideally is ard 78 to 89 deg. when its too hot, fan kick in to ensure the temp drop to the required range. so anything within that range is alright. of cos, with the constant air flow while riding will keep the engine cooler. we definitely can't copy that on a dyno machine.

:offtopic:

unless someone can invent a cooling fan on the dyno machine that can regulate the air flow for cooling in accordance to the speed. with many gigantic fans? or an indirect cooling system which require an external cooling system n with a thermostat to regulate the coolant temp so that the bike can operate at the specific operating temp at all time. but that require mechs to disconnect the coolant system n reconnect to the external cooling system which sounds troublesome. :D

As a side note, a dyno is still not able to measure the full extent of the BHP a bike can offer because of the lack of ram air. That being, despite having those high speed wind being funneled directly into the bike, it has generally been agreed that it is still insufficient to replicate the wind volume and pressure that a bike can receive while at any given speed.

That said, according to that theory, what max BHP and torque figures your can derive is based only on the maximum wind speeds and volume channeled into the dyno room.

Technically, that means the bike has potential to further increase its BHP and torque figures in actual road conditions, especially for bikes with SRAD or ram-air designs.
