cant figure this out...isnt DIY hard running-in as good as simply whacking the bike?...lol...wers the running in in that?...unless you are a real trained mech or have a dyno at home?...

You can hard run in at long stretch of road... usually not found in Singapore. By doing hard-running in, meaning to blast your throttle at each gear... that is why you need to have long stretch of road... Singapore road too short already, cannot reach the required rpm before you have to stop. If at NSH.. then no problem, can do hard running in there. I am not expert in running in, but before I did my hard-running in, I did some research on it... so I went ahead with Dyno Hard-running in.

By the way IcecoolT, I went to Motorworld last Sat and enquired about the tankbra... currently no stock... have to pre-order becos the next shipment are all being reserved. Cost of tank bra = $165. Custom Tank Bra = $225 :giddy:

Dude. Hard run in can be done by on dyno or self DIY. However DIY u have to worry bout lots of things. U need a wide open road. Long stretch. And sumwhere u know not many "hantu" around. Immediately after self diy u gotta get your oil replaced. But self DIY have too many variables that makes it not an ideal method unlike on a DYNO.

The whole theory to hard run in is that upon manufacture. The cylinders and pistons are not properly worn yet (minor bumbs and bruising). So what some motofreaks over the US and UK did was they push the bike to the limits fresh out of the factory. Doing so makes the cylinder and piston conform to each other. Doing so makes the spacing between them very minute. Thus making more pressure on combustion and more power. At the same time helps on the fuel economy part.

Some sites show the cylinder and pistons after they did a hard run in and it looks clean and smooth with no scratches. However if u dun know anything about it, best to sent to shop to do it.

Anyway i feel its a good idea for new riders to do normal run in. This helps u get used to the bike itself. Please dun ride the bike like a small bike. NEVER EVER EVER go into a corner at high speed and pull out at high speed as well. U are not riding a kawasaki kips or sumthing light. Our bikes are meant to go SLOW IN FAST OUT. Get used to the bike before u decide to do anything stupid.

Those that have not gotten any sliders, i recommend u guys pm SWOOSH now. Our big bro always have good deals on this. Sliders will save your bike and occassionally your legs as well. Trust me. You dont want to see your bike engine gushing engine oil from anywhere.

please please please

hard run-in is not the same as whacking indiscriminately or blasting the throttle

at each gear; it's far more than that.

the method has very exacting procedures and demands precision or you'll screw

it up. that's why it's recommended to do it on a dyno where everything's under

control.

there's a link to hard running-in here.

mods done:

powerplant device, fuel injector venturis,

underseat cylindrical air filter, bassy stock cans,

super-sensitive in-built gyroscope, inertia-based accelerometer,

streamlined panniers (zero drag),

taped up wires, exposed grounding wires,

TBC mounted, custom tire pressures.

litre bikes watch out! :gun:

Yup ... I went to that link too for info on the hard-running in. I know that there are more than just wacking the bike... that is why I did not do the hard-running in myself and would not recommend novice to do hard-running in by themselves... best to get those experts in the bikeshop with proper machines(Dyno) to do the hard-running process.

For those who interested in doing their hard-running in, look at the link above and that will clear up your doubts over hard-running in... again, it's up to individual to decide or not to do the hard-running in...

If you're interested in Spark Plug, I suggest you to read the below link:

http://www.strappe.com/plugs.html

Knowing more about the types of spark plug is more important than to choose the brand of spark plug.

Added a video over the Spark Plug comparison:

If showcase that an expensive spark plug will retain it's performance for a longer lifespan than normal.

Add a video on how the sparks works in the spark plug:

Cheers,

Seriously, sparks not much a diff. We are all mostly casual riders. Some last longer and some jus wears off faster. Not much a worry. I myself use the sparks for at least 2 oil change b4 i swap the plugs. Thats about 10,000km. I have heard some people stretching it up to 20,000km. But u obviously risk spark plug "hooks" breaking off and ruining the whole damm thing...

Sigh.

Another round of misinformation.

Reiterating Siko, hard break-in is NOT simply whacking throttle.

Hard break-in is a set of meticulous procedures in performing a variation of the normal recommended breaking-in procedures given by the manufacturer that has been designed to bring out the engine's maximum potential during its initial usage period.

It is not just whacking full 100% throttle and hoping either the bike runs out of fuel or something soft will stop you.

If interested readers have taken the time to read the procedures properly, it is obvious that the proponents of the idea stress 2 things:

1. proper warm up

2. proper temperature management (riding and stopping to cool the engine off to prevent accidental overheating)

3. proper acceleration guide for the break-in procedures that utilizes 50%, 75% and final 100% throttle in stages and short periods while emphasizing on engine braking to maximize the effect of the breaking-in

Unfortunately, I suppose most people see the steps and procedures in this manner:

50% throttle, 75% throttle, 100% throttle

Thus the misconception that hard break-in is simply WOT (whacking on throttle).

But it is sad and unfortunate that such misguided thinking have given what seems to be a beneficial, alternative method of breaking-in a rather bad mental image.

And no, performing hard break-ins DO NOT shorten the lifespan of the engine.

Poor maintenance and improper use of the engine will shorten its lifespan.

I pray someone don't come up with the counter-argument that a bike engine has never been started up before at the manufacturing plant nor has ever been tested before.

Because someone already has and I pray to God that he never has the chance to open a factory manufacturing critical life-dependent equipments / parts.

There are stretches of road here in Singapore (quiet, deserted roads with no TP cameras and patrols) with ample length to perform a proper hard break-in.

I've helped identified a few locations to several forumers who are interested in this issue and have throughly read and understood the concept and rational behind this art and all has gone well.

Where did u get the lights from? Is it spotlight or fog llight? Where you mount them btw. I thinking of puting it at the radiator cover there. You think its safe?

Thanks Wildcard for clarifying the hard-breaking process ... I have actually read the entire page here ... and somehow know the process involve wacking the bike at different gears and such... I did the post as a general senses that the bike has to be wacked in different gears but did not cover in detail... anyway... me bad for misleading people in hard-breaking process in short ...

Anyway... for new riders... best to consult the experts in this field before you do the hard-running in.... if done correctly... then you'll get a nice bike ... if done wrongly ... you'll end up with a weak bike ...

Actually I got my cl2b,2a and 2.

1st bike got 6yrs back. but not riding for 4yrs+ liao.

Biggest bike eva rode was rvf. Sold it aft 1yr for a 4wheeler.

Den drive til now.

Now wan to save money while study part-time. So gave up my dream for gsxr1000 k8.

Wan something practical, fuel econ, low maintainance.

Frens all say pulsar or cubkia, but I really dun like these bikes la.

Narrowed down to S4 revo or gsr400. the suzie looks abit more hightech so most likely get that.

I dun care how fast a spec3 or revo is, cos last time my fully stock rvf can smoke a modded spec3 so easily (no offense to S4 riders). In this case, speed is not wad I'm lookin at. If wan to ride fast, worse to worse can get a gixxer k1 or r12001.

So, rather den listing out the bad parts abt the gsr, wads the pros of this bike?

As for the price Looi's gave me, 14.8k is due to the 1.5k coe. Usual price is 14.3k. Add 1k for abs model. Add 1.1k-1.5k for bidded no. Wad I dun like is their interest rate. Most charge 4% while they charge 5%...

I LOVE my R1!!!:shades:
