According to the manual:

top up oil when engine is warm: at least 4 bars on temp indicator (I always check it when it has settled, incorrect too!).

Engine oil should fall between Max and Min Mark on the dip stick. Too much oil will caused difficulty in air flow(?) or combustion(?)that causes it to produce too much heat.

:sian: I never read the manual properly....

Wow, this is really new to me, all the while, I check engine oil level when engine is cold, the oil level will drop when engine has been started as oil starts to circulate in the engine.

Also, if the manual indicate that such checking is for winter or summer? Some cars' dip stick has the indication of "COLD" and "HOT" level, and cold refers to winter and vice versa... on the dip stick... the COLD max mark is below the HOT max mark...

I apply shipping theory when checking engine oil...wonder if it is the correct way...

Above picture is not crop circle, it is The Plimsoll line on the hull of a ship indicates the maximum safe loading levels for sea or fresh water, winter or summer, in tropical or temperate waters.

Am I right???

For a cooler engine, I recommend "ROYAL PURPLE", Engine oil level is 4/5 to Max and possible a lower idling speed...

Wow.. Rocket science on the ship induicator....

The KTM 950 slump is located at the top of the engine for better ground clearance purpose. Topping up of oil is at the slump, there is an oil pump located in the slump to circulate the engine oil in it.

Most bike has their engine oil top up at the engine, but 950 is not. That'e explain the reason why the oil has to be check during warm. And according to manual, leave engine to idle for 1 minutes before checking... unlike the other bikes that I have before..

The manual did not mention whether it apply to any season lei... hmmm... then again, colder country uses different kind of oil.

Ships travel to different part of the world with different atmosphere / blah blah blah kekeke... our engine is peanut compared to ships one, so just follow the indicator would be fine. Am I making sense here?

hmm, don't know leh, never ridden a KTM before...

Just for your info, Plimso line is a very rough indicator invented by Mr Plimso dockey years ago, now, almost all ships are computerised now, crew no longer need to hang outside the ship's hull like a monkey to look out if the ship has overloaded.

At times, inorder to charter the ship out, the plimso line marking will be adjusted accordingly to charterer's request to load more cargo, after re-adjusting the marking on the ship's hull, a class surveyor will be sent down to endorse on the trading certificate... all are quite bull sh*t now, no choice, $, $, $... hahahaha...

Guess the Max line indication for your KTM should be "HOT", we don't see snow in Sahara Desert, do we?

Saw the new duke II at DirtWheel yesterday. nice and soft comfy seat. Not the usual KTM hard seat. Speedo meter is in Miles. So you will always be travelling at 160 km/h when you are at 100 miles thinking why is everyone soooo slow.....

The feel of 950 with a new KTM exhaust:

KTm Silencer Exhaust: The power of the 950 feel more compact and the delivery of the power is much smoother when throttle. I don't feel any lost of power at low end, the bike is slightly more torque now. The vibration has reduce too...making it more controllable at lower cruising speed (below 100). pops quite a bit when close throttle. I have not push the bike to get a proper feel yet.

The combine weight of the two exhausts = Weight of one stock :giddy:

On idling, it gives a low grunt noise, noise level is slightly higher than the stock, Nice. But gotten louder when accelerating, too loud that attracts unwanted attention, not nice. Noise greatly reduce when it hit after 70 to 80 km/h. Which is a good thing the noise has gone down.

Heat at the exhaust has gone down maybe by 25 to 30%, slight significant. But I can feel that the header emit less heat now. I don't have to wear high cuts boots for riding now. :thumb:

Overall, it's a good change, Other than the noise when accelerating.

Coming up, review on ENGINE ICE coolant on 950.

Just took the Orange one to all the "bends" in Singapore to clock some milage....... hmmmmmmmm....... not bad, not bad at all :D

Mount Faber is nice, 99 is nice, Nus Chicks are also nice, but they scare too easily.... maybe thats a good thing http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/mwink.gif

Biggest mistake is to cut thru Outram and Orchard at noon time, overcooked, overflowed, bad a$$ traffic...... http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/knary.gif

Did a little tweaking of the pogo sticks along the way.... must have looked strange to others...... crazy biker stopping at the side of the road and taking out tool and doing ????

Bike runs smoother with every km covered, now it feels like my GS at cruising speed, only a little flutter during pickup.... buts thats good vibration. Now I know why so many ladies loves to ride scramblers/SM http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/nod.gif

Have gained much confidence on it now,

Now I think I'm ready for Gabes "starve the riders" trip http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/lol8.gif

:D Bike is all fix up now  and ready to go. No much changes from the last improvement, good pulling power. Dirt wheel clear the valve and the bike is quieter now, engine doesn't sound so crazy anymore hmmm... Not so crazy.. but beneath it, it is still the old KTM. Pipe is not so loud too... maybe it is a real silencer, can accelerate without due care now hee hee :help:

Thanks everyone esp Mao, SDR and Cyclop for your listening ears & advise

Noticed the lack of kick-start on this bike :giddy:

Somehow, I'm still old school even though my work involves high tech stuffs. I still believe such mechanical backups and things like carbs are essential for adventure machines, especially so for hardcore riders who take their machine into the heart of nowhere. Planes have multiple redundencies for critical systems, bikes have no redundency except for the pillion that came along for the ride..... :giddy:

Think in the near future, bike sold will include an insurance package for heli retrieval :giddy:

Looks like this is the sign of the times.......... :giddy:

Very true, High Tech stuff require support.

New LC4? Cool.. guess it is pack with loads of power.. wheelie.. Nice headers :lovestruck:
