Wah. All the exhaust matters.

Anyone got any success story of sending a street legal exhaust bought from online that is successfully sent to lta and is approved? Im talking abt brands which has no local dealer at all. Able to share on the documents you brought along to lta and documents you requested from the overseas website seller?

Is it possible to order an exhuast online without being stopped at the customs by ICA?

nope. not possible as it is a bulky item, and the value definitely exceeds SGD 500.

note that the SGD 500 will INCLUDE freight charges.

Hi, im taking over a motorcycle from an owner which got it from a shop that repossessed it.

It comes with a micron exhaust pipe.

There are no cert, no lta inspection letter that pipe and bike have been registered together and we dont know who is the owner of the pipe.

I've called mezzo who is the dealer of micron

He said $150 for cert sent from micron

$100 to transfer name

If bike and pipe not registered together, have to go down for inspection and cost about $70.

Exhaust when taken over by previous owner had its silencer removed so ill have to pay another $150 to get a new silencer as quoted from him.

My question is.

1. Silencer can be made elsewhere cheaper?

2. Is there another way around paying so much to "legalise the pipe". I want the bike to ride past a tp without me worrying

Im exploring these options

1.Call up vicom/sta and request them to just reprint the inspection of pipe and bike if there are records. Obviously, name wont be under my name. Does the log card have it?

or

2. Transfer pipe to my name with mezzo. Will LTA send me a confirmation letter that i am now the new owner. Is this sufficient?

Mezzo told me that i have to pay

$150 for silencer

$150 for cert

$100 for transfer

$70 for inspection of pipe if it has not been registered to the bike.

Is this true or bs?

Please help me thanks. $700 fine from tp is too hefty.

I can get a brand new scorpion exhaust at $600 excl the inspection.

hi bro...just the rite one for me to ask..

Recently JB bought in leo vince pipes..

models which are not yet approved in singapore.

was told by bike shops that a few singaporeans already bought it and got their approval cert here..

my question is..

a) is that even possible? (from what i read from ur post,i think it is...just want to double confirm)

b) what are the necessary documentations needed for me to bring for certifications.

c) the pipe that i wanted to buy didnt have any certifications along (like those we got when we purchased those pre approved pipes in singapore). it only comes with serial number for all the parts

d) if all is possible, do i just bring my bike along with all the necessary documentations (receipt etc) and they just do the inspection as per normal or are there some extra steps for me to go through?

would be great if u can help me out here...

would be greatly appreciated.

thank u

let me help you with your questions.

1. Silencer can be made elsewhere cheaper? --> Yes/No. You will definitely need the original in order to replicate a similar silencer. And since you dun have the original with you, chances are the prices to fabricate 1 at metal works shop will be high.

2. Is there another way around paying so much to "legalise the pipe". I want the bike to ride past a tp without me worrying --> Not at the moment.

Im exploring these options

1.Call up vicom/sta and request them to just reprint the inspection of pipe and bike if there are records. Obviously, name wont be under my name. Does the log card have it? --> Logcard will not show any details of exhaust or vehicle modifications. Only VITAS will show. (google VITAS to know what it is). Vicom/STA will not have any copies of the certification. Their records will only be in VITAS that a certain modification has been done on the bike, IF it's registered in their system. All copies of certication/installation letters are returned to owner upon end of inspection and endorsement.

or

2. Transfer pipe to my name with mezzo. Will LTA send me a confirmation letter that i am now the new owner. Is this sufficient? --> Mezzo will issue you a cert(which you currently don't have), an owner card, as well as a letter for inspection. LTA will not send you any letter to confirm you are the new owner of the exhaust. The ownership transfer falls under individual dealer's jurisdiction. As mentioned, LTA will only have information on whether a certain modification has been made to the bike under their VITAS system.

IMHO, paying a $470 is much more economical than to purchase a new exhaust and stucked with the current exhaust. And also a piece of mind when riding on the roads.

Exhaust mods falls under LTA riders, no longer TP. ;)

Cheers!

Thanks archer.

Appreciate the reply.

For the benefit of this thread.

Called VICOM and they said they cant do anything for me.

I called LTA told them my situation.

They have the records that such an inspection happened with my bike and the aftermarket exhaust.

Despite this, pipe is still ILLEGAL unless you are able to produce the 2 necessary documents if being stopped by the authorities. Fine is 500 - 800 + every other mod on your bike so dun play play.

In a bikers nutshell, you will require

1 .Certification of Exhaust

2. Endorsement from Inspection Centre.

Pipe is tagged to both the owner and the vehicle which is so troublesome.

Since mine is a repossessed motorcycle, to get the golden stamp, i will have to spend a fortune getting the supporting documents from micron dealership - MEZZO 97477433.

$150 Silencer

$150 For the cert

$100 for the name transfer

$70+ for the re-inspection.

Summary : Yes it is possible. $$ and get the right advice from your particular dealership first.

Anyway, a new scorpion pipe is $700. 2nd hand $600 both excluding the $70+ inspection cost.

If the pipe can be repaired(silencer was removed), guess ill save about $200-300. Micron is better than scorpion ya? Ill try to salvage it.

If not ill get a new one.

Hope this helps.

no prob, glad i was of some help.

with regards to the on-hand documentations, they can't really fine you for not having in-possession of the 2 documents. everything is so high-tech now, all they need to do is simply radio back to HQ to confirm if an aftermarket exhaust has been fitted, etc etc.

i don't even bring along my insurance or road tax for the matter for my daily travels in SG. why put yourself to extra headache in event the documents get wet or LOST of the originals. agree?

UPDATE!!! For my situation, i explained my situation and was informed by vicom that I do not the documents for the yearly inspection as it has already been inspected in 2005.

Guess Ill be saving my $320.

$150 to reinstall the damn silencer. Hope it works.

Well, by the book we need to bring along all these things.

Even LTA mentioned to me that without the documents, you can still be liable for a fine.

My argument will be that exhaust has been inspected together with the bike before and exhaust is not tampered.

Papers were lost during transfer.

Im taking my chances.

Thanks archer.

I was stopped during a TP road block last year for routine screening. And i only had my licence with me. no roadtax nor insurance papers with me. all they did was just radio back for confirmation and validity.

What cert do we need when we're stop on the road by TP? The cert from the manufacturer or the cert approved by LTA after u fix your exhaust?

hi guys, i have a problem here. i just bought an used bike with an aftermarket exhaust. previous owner bought it, its a street legal one. there is a cert for it. however, owner retained the number plate, and the bike got a new number plate.

hence now the number plate on the cert doesnt match with my bike.

to get it legal again, do i have to go thru the same procedures as transferring the legal exhaust from one bike to another? thanks for the help!

Call LTA to seek some guidance in this situation.

Get a copy of the vehicle retention transaction and issuance of new number to your current bike from previous owner.

Get this documented at LTA and bring the documents for the inspection for the transfer of the exhaust.

I myself am wondering if I have to go through the entire transfer of parts inspection all over again if I were to change my number plate.

Hi guys, Help needed. I got my street legal exhaust Leo Vince 4Road Scoot online from overseas. I have got the Booklet with the E pass cert in it , Merchants invoice and the receipt for exhaust installation from a local bikeshop.

The exhaust is already been approved by LTA in singapore. so many riders have this exhaust on their bikes here.

But the thing is the bikeshop that installed for me told me that its useless that i dont have the "Company Stamp" from the local distributer of LV in singapore. LTA wont even bother to check the exhaust.

Did i seriously just wasted few hundred bucks to get a street legal exhaust that LTA wont even wanna inspect when i have the neccessary documents except the distributer stamp ??

Please guide me guys ... Thanks !

I am afraid so...

And technically, your pipe is not deemed street legal since it doesnt have the nec endorsement/approval from the local dealer and authorities, even though the same model are fitted and approved for use on some bikes here.

I'd suggest you give LV (Gmax?) a call here and see if they are able to help.

Good luck!
