Just use IP filtering... only authorised IP can access your network.

Thats what i did at home. Easier than WEP ba..

I'm not sure about Linksys routers but mine has got a function that senses when somebody is connected to my network with a valid IP address. Geek speak here so I won't elaborate...

how can i know is there anyone else tap my internet?

Rather than worry about who has entered into your wireless network, why not set-up WEP or WPA protection, just like what sheep had suggested.

Happy surfing!

enable MAC filtering on your router instead. this way, only specific MAC IDs are allowed to connect to your network.

whether this is more secure than WEP or WPA is subjective

sorry how can i enable mac filtering or ip filtering?

Bro which model of linksys u r using? I suggest u use a WEP or WAP. It would be easier in future if u have addition laptop or pc.

This is just a general guide for linksys..

Once connected to your rounter(wireless or lan cable)

-Open your IE/FIREFOX/OPERA and enter 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

-Linksys rounter will prompt for username and password

*Default username & password for linksys rounter is admin & admin respectively

-Once inside click on the 'Wireless' tap and then select 'Wireless Security' sub tap.

-At the page you will need to enable your Wireless Security

-At this page you will be able to see 'Security Mode', Wireless Encryption Level', 'Passphase' and 'WEP Key'(varies between model.. some will be key1, key2..etc)

hopefully this help.. any typo pls understand as i type it myself.. if u nd further just let me know.. :cheeky:

i had enable my mac filtering, so does i still need to do ip filtering?

Uh...don't turn it on yet unless you have input your computer's details into your router equipment (specifically, "details" meaning the MAC address of your computer's network card/wireless card)

You don't want to inadvertedly lock the router, causing your computers in your home not to be able to connect to it..
