Hey there. I'm afraid you don't have much options.

a) If you have a lot of spare time in 10am-5pm range on weekdays you may enjoy riding from one shop to another asking guys and uncles for the stuff you need.

b) You may try Honda warehouse at Ubi, they may have some engine parts although I wouldn't hope -- all Steeds are discontinued long time ago.

c) Go to eBay and order VLX parts from the US.

d) For some not-critical parts you may try China-made stuff from AliExpress

Meanwhile the saga continues.

 

I'm grateful to the previous owner of my Steed for caring the bike. But its muffler definitely lost its original shape: heavy dents, and scratches have been kiiling the show. It's been the part I always wanted to replace but I couldn't find another stock muffler in a proper condition here in SG. Nothing.

 

Then I tried Japan Yahoo auctions but good stock 400's pipes would cost a fortune and a great headache to ship to SG

 

Eventually, I gave up on Asia and moved to the proven place: US eBay.

 

Yes, they have no 400s market. But I hoped (and still do) that a stock VLX 600 exhaust should fit my VLS 400 frame and engine

 

A few months of watching eBay, and.... the last night I received the stock VLX 600 muffler I was lucky to catch!

 

The rather innovative packaging made me a bit anxious:

What if you shine a light into the exhaust pipe and see that its broken ..will there be a problem with inspection? Given thst is an old bike?

Here I am the original 1999-make VLS in quite a good condition (I am the second owner), 99.6% stock. You may see some older photos on the previous page. Now it rides 2 inches lower and on new Metz tires. Not for sale though, haha.

Honestly I am not sure if a VLX 17" wheel would fit a TA200 fork.. Maybe guys who ride VLX's might suggest.

I'm still riding my trusty old steed for almost 10 yrs! time flies.. getting old liao. my steed is 21yrs old. younger than me!

 

very reliable engine. usual wear & tear replacement as per all things in life. steeds are getting rarer on the roads these days

Thanks for sharing your info bro! how does the vlx600 exhaust sound compared to the native 400? every yr when i do the temporary swap, it sounds quieter than a cat can hear. there's no way im returning to the native 400.. lol. how much r you looking at for your 400 pipe?

 

haha still here. m nearing 10yrs with this steed. seldom see another on the road nowadays, cos of an incentive scrapping scheme by nea (https://www.nea.gov.sg/programmes-grants/grants-and-awards/incentive-to-de-register-older-motorcycles). even workshops find it easier to scrap for 3.5k than trying to sell. a real pity considering the lack of new cruisers.. besides harley. think it's gonna go 'collectors'' ed soon

 

we r left with ~10yrs b4 such bikes will be 'banned' on the road (jun 2028)

All accounted for 60 single cells measuring 1×3 meters and 30 multi-sized ones measuring 2×3 meters and 6 special regime cells (lock-up). There is a legend that after the execution of Patrick J.
