No not cutting the spring, just the shaft of the shock.. I don't think it will affect safety tho, just less suspension travel.. I did a few car shock absorber stuff at Fong Kim and they did quite a good job. It's just that I'm not sure if they are keen if I do my bike stuff there..

The other way is to go to a machinist and do a copy of the lowering kit. As for hard tail for Steed it's pretty easy.. Just a 1 inch square tubing and booking of appointment with bac specialist at your fav hospital will do..

What does that mean (in bold)? Niwei, sent to K&T 2day and clifford said my gantong spoiled oledi (too bouncy).... To buy a new one costs almost $500 and no point servicing cos the bounce will return again so looking for 2nd hand one...Just told him 2 things, I want it short and stiff....heeee

Need advice again. dunnoe izzit my luck or wat my bike always full of prob. LOL!

When riding, got squeaking sound, sometime worse got grinding sound, seems to come from the front or middle.

Had check the chain, its fine.

Should not be engine, rev nothing wrong.

when moving, its intermittent but consistent, meaning only some part of the rotation is creating this sound.

Further more can feel the grinding at times at my handle bar.

possible to be ball bearing?

Quick answer to some of the questions I've seen asked:

1. Where to get forward control kit?

Check out http://www.scootworks.com . The stock parts for the Shadow VT600, which is the 600cc version of the Steed sold in the US. Both use the exact same parts. Just the engine capacity's different.

I think they have a forward control kit for about US$100. Can self-install.

2. How can I lower my rear suspension?

Scootworks also sells a rear suspension lowering kit. Can lower your rear between 1 to 2 inches I think. Difference is immedaitely noticeable. I personally use this.

You can DIY install it. Quite straight-forward, but time consuming.

I think it's about US$100 too. I suggest you buy the shock compressor too coz you will need to squeeze the spring together to install this kit. I paid $20 to David Ong, suspension specialist at Braddell to do it, but I'm not sure if he's still there. He almost couldn't do it for me because he rarely works with Steed suspnesion. He had to improvise. Thumbs-up for his persistence!

3. How can I ship them over?

I used Vpost. Tell Scootworks that you want the items packed into as small a box as possible because your shipper charges by volume as well as weight. I did that, and they packed the lowering kit into a tiny box. I've bought items from large American retailers and they use mega boxes for tiny items, then kena very high Vpost shipping charges. So kudos to Scootworks for following my request!

Hey,

You refering to, http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/page=partshonhiwaybar.htm/SID=PUT_SID_HERE, the

"Forward Control Relocation Kit- Move your OEM pegs and pedals forward approx. 4 1/2" with this beautifully chrome plated kit imported by Scootworks. A very cost effective alternative to full forward control systems. This kit includes all required mounting hardware, brake rod extension and illustrated installation instructions, making this an easy do-it-yourself project.

Y not just bring it to your mech to check it out? Sounds like serious problem to me.

How time flies...

Big is certainly a warning but small can be downright scary! Never underestimate the effectiveness of small.

Jack your rear tyre up and spin it. See if it makes any noise. I once had a persistent hissing sound because the replacement sprocket was slightly bigger than stock, and was rubbing against the side of the frame. Had to grind it down a tiny bit to get rid of the noise. Thought it came from the engine originally!

Jack your front tyre up and spin. Check for noise too.

This way you can narrow down the possible source.

I use a car jack which I got from a junkyard for a few dollars. A good investment. Makes oiling chain that much easier too!

Bought my forward controls from scootworks wen I had my old steed. Total bill+shipment close to SGD$500! Think that time Vpost don't exist yet... Niwei, the forward controls I'm referring to is the heel toe shifter type + floorboards, like the ones on the Softail Harleys. More shoik to step down rather than kick up through the gears and just 'plug and play', no need to mod the original shifter or brake rods...Again check with Chong Aik if they have stock cos saw it in the Daytona catalogue. You can also try First Motor cos saw a lot of steeds there and they can do ALL sorts of mods for the steed, maybe can make a shifter as well cos they do engine guards as well...And bought my car jack from Sungei Road ($10), agree that it's VERY useful when oiling the chains, changing Vespa Tyres, changing Vespa brakes, cables, clutch, etc, etc...

I suspect your front wheel bearing gone case oledi. Jack up the front (from below frame area next to foot brake), hold the bottom part of the fork and spin the wheel...If got a lot of vibration on the fork then confirm bearing gone.. :sian:

Niwei, here's the pics of the highway shifters (currently installed on my steed) and my Old Steed...Last pic is when I sold it off, without the Magna Rim and box (sold separately, Rim to Kev's and Givi box to a newbie on a phantom, even help him to install)..

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLY! AS USUAL VERY FAST!! REALLY APPRECIATE THEM!! :cheeky:

SQUEAKING AND GRINDING SOUND

I suspect is front wheel ball bearing too. First time it happen, it last like 15mins then sound gone, next day while riding in the night comes back again. Now gone again. I had brought it to Planet, and problem was, when i reach there the sound is gone, so its hard for them to diagnose too. They check the chain and its fine. Also my rear brake shoes juz change, chain and spocket too.

I had the car jack, but everyday home already 12am liao. So ya. it has been the second day liao.

WEATHER TOO HOT, so maybe nite go planet again. Else my gf wanna KP me liao. After this problem arise I dun dare to pillion her. LOL!! safety first.

Result: front bearing goner...change at planet for $30. :)

Forward Control relocation kit

Ya its more than $100 but its ok. just wanna check out if we r refering to same item. else i buy liao cannot fix T.T

I still thinking what else to get, dunnoe if SG can get saddle bag guard for steed anot.

Was thinking of shipping it to SG. dunnoe if any one has any other item that they wanna buy from "www.scootworks.com", so we can gather together maybe shipping cheaper? :cheeky: LOL!

ONCE AGAIN, THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVISE!! :D

Bought a pair of harley sportster saddlebags from a fellow forummer for $100 (Excellent buy!). Nice seller. The good news, the bags came with the metal rails to prevent the bags from touching the tyres. Guess what, the seller said that the rails were from his Softail and they fitted the steed struts PERFECTLY, just remove the screws from the struts and screw them back in with the guard rails! You have to get the straight rails, not the ones where the holes are at different positions (front/ back support holes not in line)... Just sharing info for those getting saddlebags for your steed...Will put pics after taking photos...

1. Check your tyre pressure

2. Jack up the front of the bike, and spin the wheel. See if it spins freely

3. Jack up the rear of the bike, and spin the wheel. See if it spins freely.

4. Check your fuel-air mix. Might be running too rich.

5. If compression is poor, might have to change the engine/piston seals. Seals are considered a wear and tear item. This is more ex than regular maintenance, but not as ex as an overhaul. Rarely do Honda Steed engines need to be overhauled completely. They're really tough.
