Sintered Pads (or metallic)

Sintered pads are made up of hardened metallic ingredients, which are bound together with pressure and temperature.

Pros

-fade at a higher temperature than resin pads

-better performance in wet conditions

-last longer

Cons

-louder

-longer break-in time

-not as much initial bite

-heat is conducted through the caliper, not the rotor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resin Pads (or organic)

Resin pads are made up of fibers and organic material that are bonded together with resin.

Pros

-Quieter

-Shorter break-in period

-More initial bite

-Prevent heat buildup

-Pushes heat back into the rotor

Cons

-Wear quicker

-Not as good in wet/muddy conditions

look like bicycle brake pads.. but still same concept.

havent got time to read up on ceramic compounds yet. ever since i changed to the ceramics one, my rear brake is squeeking like a bus. i think some of you might notice during the charity ride. tried cleaning the disc with brake cleaner, bled the brake system and sand down the pads abit, still squeeking..

rien d'autre que le max.

Found it, :p

"....Another characteristic that makes ceramic materials attractive is the absence of noticeable dust. All brake pads produce dust as they wear. The ingredients in ceramic compounds produce a light colored dust that is much less noticeable and less likely to stick to the wheels. Consequently, wheels and tires maintain a cleaner appearance longer.

Ceramic pads meet or exceed all original equipment standards for durability, stopping distance and noise. According to durability tests, ceramic compounds extend brake life compared to most other semi-metallic and organic materials and outlast other premium pad materials by a significant margin - with no sacrifice in noise control, pad life or braking performance.

This is quite an improvement over organic and semi-metallic brake materials that typically sacrifice pad life to reduce noise, or vice versa...."

Somehow it isn't true. my rear rim has never been so filled with brake dust and its squeeking. if only i still kept the pakaging..

rien d'autre que le max.
