2 poly students killed in horrific car crash

Two others were injured when their car plunged into a ditch and hit tree along Old Upper Thomson Road.

 

Two polytechnic classmates died when the car they were in plunged into a ditch and hit a tree along Old Upper Thomson Road late on Tuesday night.

They were the rear passengers, identified as Mr David Li, 18, and Mr Mervin Teo, 19. It took rescuers nearly 30 minutes to extricate them from the back seat where they were trapped.

 

Mr Li, a second year IT student, died on arrival at the Singapore General Hospital while Mr Teo, also a second year student in engineering informatics, died shortly after.

 

The driver and his front seat passenger, aged 19 and 20, escaped with slight injuries. One of them was discharged from Singapore General Hospital on Wednesday morning.

 

The four are all students of Nanyang Polytechnic. The horrific crash happened at 11.45 pm as the car, a Mitsubishi Lancer, was travelling along Old Upper Thomson Road towards the Seletar Expressway.

 

It is not known if the two rear passengers were wearing seat belts.

kawa ... I say blame both ... Saying base on assumption, I wasn't there to know the whole story.

Blame car because Mits design this model for low budget in mind for the young that look sporty with lousy undercarriage thats provides average handling.

Blame driver because he put other people life at state without a good advance driving skill.

hai .. having a bit or thrill is ok la .. but wanna race alone devil bend do it alone lor .. some more don have that amount of skill then don drive so fast ma ..i think they crash at the turn where the gate to the resvior is .. that turn quite sharp ..

aiyoh....if they go thru corner too fast even after shifting to lower gear?....definitely the car will skid...so how?countersteer your steering wheel at the same time release the brakes and accelerator...by then they could have more control of the above said vehicle...the problem might be the driver jammed the brake during cornering because speed to fast and he didnt counter steer to the opposite......dont blame the car.its the driver...he'll still would crash his car even if its evo...cause the characteristic of the vehicle not much difference in terms of stability..ppl buy evo still have to mod the stability of the vehicle..unless you telling me BMW M model...built with traction control or porche,lotus etc...supercars.....japanese car still need high level of skill to control due to its light weight...even if fix with 19 inch tyres

no too sure if it is dat corner...anyway dat particular corner u r toking abt is a double apex corner which is like 2 turns in 1 corner kinda thingy n it was rather blind due to the trees around

and who said you'd be alot safer in a car? just a lil wee bit nia if you're a f up driver/rider. Not good enough and try to pull off stunts and you'l still be sent down many feet below ground.

Think the Lancer is the older model.

I saw the pic of the corner and I think he was going at high speed even he knows that he was going to negotiate a corner. Maybe he didn't know how sharp that corner was.

And I guess the centrifugal force just pushes the car outwards. That's why the car went off the left hand side of the road.

Sad though normally in a car accident like that. The passengers are the ones that get hurt more than the driver.

So, it tells us that as drivers when we have passengers with us in the car, we need to drive slower. Coz we will be accountable to the death or injuries of the passengers.

go public? when i attend my 2a theory lesson they show me this video.. this guy crossing the road @ pedestrian crossing.. green man hor....

 

then from the other direction of the road(T junction) got 1 car beat red light then this right turning vehicle jam brake then the car that beat the red light slide and flipped and landed on him(the innocent guy crossing the road).. he's jus crossing the road only.. suay until cannot suay..

 

so public is no safe as well.. best is lock yourself in a metal room.. haha..
