Meng and Amin, 1st and foremost, this thread is dormant, almost extinct even. Hence, no reply to ur posts. For any query on the Bajaj Pulsar, pls go to the main thread under the Bikes & Bytes forum. Response guaranteed! Anyway .....

I got my Pulsar from Universal Motors, Bajaj's sole distributor in S'pore. $5K OTR (everything in, except box and insurance) + $280 for Mitsui 2nd Party Insurance for new, single rider, 35 yrs old.

U can probably get a cheaper price at the other authorised dealers, but I felt safer getting it from Universal. If there's any problem with ur Pulsar, they're probably the best-equipped to deal with it since the Pulsar is not yet that common here. Anyway, their price is not that far off and the salesman, David, is a nice guy so I felt comfortable when dealing with him even tho I'm a newbie. Best of all, can collect the bike 24 hrs later!

Amin, just like ur rider frens, I also have negative reviews abt the Pulsar. That is if we compare the power, speed and performance of the 2 bikes lah. Come on, what do u expect? A 180-cc, made-in-India Pulsar vs a 400-cc, made in Japan S4 VTEC. But if we compare the fuel and maintenance costs, then the Pulsar wins hands down lah (abt 50km/litre vs abt 20km/litre).

Every bike has its pros and cons. Whatever bike we get, we win some, we lose some. So it all boils down to what we want and what we're willing to forego in the bike. I'm not saying the Pulsar is the best 2B naked bike out there. Just that I'm happy with it as a transport bike.

HI there everyone.

I just enquired from universal and they are offering Pulsar for about 5.5k for OTR.

They also told me the avenger is available but somehow i prefer the Pulsar design....jus wondering does it matter if we were to get it from the distributor or any other bike shops that carry it??

Anyone got any good place to get good 1st hand offer for pulsar....me goin either black or silver.....

Maybe can keep me update yah......

Anyway thanks to some kind souls out there that r guiding me thru my new bike.....CHEERS

Good day guys.

Jus need some info from the Pulsar experts :p

I jus wanna know for servivcing how much it cost for Pulsar....

My estimation is as below:

- spark plug x2 = $10.

- Engine oil =$10

- Cabretor cleaning (once every 5000km ritee? ) = $70

Any other things tat i miss out for the regular servicing items???

Jus wanna to have full knowledge on the bike before i commit myself to it.....

And the bad news is.....COE went up to $1000++++++++

Posted

Jus to confirm, can the Pulsar bikes be easily repaired by most mechanic in spore or just by authorised agent mechanic?? As for the spare parts....must i go all the way to agent to get it....Ah Boy don have meh

So far the bike been problem free.....as i continue to monitor the market.....and i do not forsee any problem coz my india frens told me their bikes are designed for durability and for long distance travelling due the distance they have to cover back in INDIA.

HOPE to join you guys in the PULSAR riding soon.....once i offload my S4 to my younger bro......since he jus passed his 2A.....so happy siak:smile::sian:

Brother Mamat>>

so your question.

1. Spark Plugz 2X = $13

2. Engine oil for the running in depend on brand.. cheapest $10-$12

3. Carb servicing is only $18 at agent.

for carb service i service every 10,000km.

brother Mamat> anyway its true this bike is built to last.. maintenace is low.

regarding parts, well as for now, most shop that sell Pulsar itself should have common parts.

as for servicing too.. but give this bike sometimes, in a year time, most bike shop should be able to do servicing..

now i'm trying to teach my mechanic in Johor to learn about my bike.. so once

he know how to do serviving, i do there liao... as for now, all those sensitive parts,

i still do it at Agent but other stuffs, minor ones, i go Johor..

will be happy if u join us for next outing.

Bro mamat. I personally prefer to use a good brand for engine oil. Others, I'm not sure. The reason is that the engine oil is also used to lubricate the piston's walls and the gears so it is better to use a better grade. It's much like using good 2T for 2-stroke bikes so that the piston won't jam.

I'm beginning to like my pulsar alot as I find the handling and pick-up to be quite good.

The only thing that bothers me is that the gears doesn't seem to be able to lock when dropping from 5th to 4th and 4th to 3rd. Happened on a number of occasions. Hoping that the situation improves when I change my engine oil soon coz still running in. Only 400km.

Bro Mamat, just to add in to ur enquires..

Spark Plug x2 = $18 (Every 10,000km)

Engine Oil = $20 Esso Gold (Every 2500km)

Service Carb = $20 (Every 10,000km)

These services are done at the place i bought my bike Southern Motors at Bukit Merah

Most places can do the normal service but if major i guess we still have to go to universal.Different places have different prices..

i do recommend to use better engine oil rather than those normal $8 engine oil futhermore u only need 1 bottle.u can try use Bro paiseh Chem Lub,most pple like it and only costing $15

Bro waadee,i do agree most of us still have this problem but dat also depends on ur own riding skills...so far so good,i have not had this problem for a long time already...

Maybe u should check with our bros here who change from big cc bikes to pulsar on the pros and cons and do consider well.but if u got the extra income then go ahead.

I used to spend this amount on S4:

Instalment: $200

Petrol: $150

Insurance: $600/12month = $50

Maintenance: Average $50/month

Total: $450

Now:

Instalment: $100

Petrol: $50

Insurance: $300/12month = $25

Maintenance: Average $25/month

Total: $200

Downgrading saves me around $250/month. Not bad in my opinion and I still take about the same timing to reach work because of morning traffic.

Big cc big possess alot of power and is stable when travelling at high speeds but maintenance cost is very high. A rear tyre could easily set you back $150 while replacing the chain and sprockets would cost you $200.

Its even costly if kanna accident. My fren recovered a total of $8000 from an insurance company to pay for the damages on his S4.
