DIY LED Signal (UPdates page 4 brake light)

Assuming u are using white LEDs, & each has a 3.6Vdc forward driving voltage.

+ve polarity of the LED is always the longer leg

One thing, I don't think that 9V cell can provide so much power for so many LEDs.

100mA to 200mA is not too much a problem

Depend on what type of 9V u are using, it can be Alkaline 9V, Lithium 9V or 6x1.5V (e.g. AAA)

Standard Alkaline 9V battery is about 625mAh... meaning it can drive 625mA for 1hrs... 1250mA for 30min and so on...

 

So if you wanna theoritically speaking 100mA/200mA can be driven by a 9v batt for slightly more than 6hrs / 3 hrs repsectively. OF COS along the way the Voltage drop will cause LED to look dimmer.

15watt resistors are HUGE!!! I doubt it can fit inside the signal light housing...

 

the original bulb in the LAB signal lights(pictured by Limsteel) are 6W and it was working fine on my bike so i reckon a 5W resistor shd work fine too... so far so good, keeping my fingers crossed. if i were to fit a 10W or above resistor, only way to mount is externally... or unless ur light housing is big enuf

Not just any normal LEDs though, 3 LEDs alone provide as much light as a 25watt filament type Signal bulb. I used 6 per signal light, which is sorta an overkill.

This is wat I was talking about, to integrate additional brake lights into the signal.

so there is 3 brake light on the bike ... scare car hit my backside lah ...

 

actually if the entire signal is LED, can include some Red LED, wired to the brake light, if they will all fit into the indicator cover and if the wiring will fit as well ?????

I am riding a CBR400RR that is known for its unreliable electronics. I recently upgraded my headlights to 2x 60/55W from 2x 60/35W, and rewired the headlight switch to control a relay and power the lights straight from the battery. But idle voltage dropped to 11V and max charging voltage dropped to 13V. With one bulb disconnected they recover a little to 11.5V and 13.5V.

 

I thought instead of replacing the alternator and rectifier with higher output ones, I should reduce the total power consumption by modifying the "constantly on" electronics such as the tail / brake lights. My knowledge in electronics is very limited. Is any kind soul free to fabricate me a set of LED tail / brake lights? I am not looking for luminance, but power savings. I probably need to save between 30W to 40W from somewhere to compensate for the headlights.
