But is the parts difficult to get in Singapore, since the market so small.

 

depend on wad parts as for aftermarket definitely hard to get in SG...but no worry, in US & other country ther still alot of RC51 ard. most of the item can b found in Ebay of my fav seller fr US, if get used parts my dealer can give a better price den Ebay as Ebay charge % on final sale & listing fee. no worry i not here to get business, i won help to buy the most is i will only provide his contact no for who ever interested.

Anything to look out for when getting a used SP1/SP2?

Besides the normal tell tale signs of crashes, suspension, wear and tear.

Does the engine sound "rough" by nature?

definitely hard to feel the engine as is so torque by nature wher by my 1st ride on the bike was WTH ! engine gt problem izzit?! end up is nature, u onli find the bike gg smooth when it cruising above 140kph or when u drag on every gear.

common problem will b the charging coil *not common problem la mayb too long liao might need to change & after tat can last 5yrs + onward*, batt *is best to change every yr even no fault, full wring *muz make sure no problem if gt big problem gd luck cos the best part is OEM dealer nv bring the full wring harness to SG b4 & if u wanna order thers 3 version which u need to check fr ur main chassis no or wring tag part no* other den this few so far so gd ma...best things is RC51 onli use 2 plugs so u save 2 plugs $$ liao !

very true.. still remember 3 yrs ago i was scouting for a class 2 bike.. wen i viewed this particular SP1 (back den i didnt even know abt the bike) in full stock condition, low mileage and under-utilized.. i was skeptical at first because afterall, FS-plate thousand cc bike at $8.5k.. Even an RVF was more expensive back den.. but wen the owner ignited the engine, i fell in love with the sound immediately.. deal was sealed 1 week later.. only later i found out it was a replica of the SBK championship winning bike rode by Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden (AMA)

 

 

need to have the passion on loving this bike if not thers no point doing up as evey yr thers a newer fast bike on the rd..if were to own the fastest bike i think almost every yr oso need to change bike....

 

for ur search ! hope to see more RC51 rider! is gonna b super rare & classic to own it.

 

i wouldnt trade this bike for any inline 4 at all... i've had my chances but i didnt want to... nothing turn ppl's heads more than a roaring v-twin superbike speeding through the crowd... and if you think the RC8s, 1098s & RSVs are too pricey, den the VTR is one of the cheaper alternatives..

 

yeah, this bike is more like riding a wild stallion than riding a tamed horse.. its some of the imperfections that makes it unique in a way.. no its not the fastest bike on the road.. but how often do u get to use such speeds??.. no its not the smoothest ride because being a v-twin.. the vibrations are part & parcel of the whole package.. and it is damn heavy (prob coz mine's stock so dats why)... last but not least.. (see below)

thigh burning sensation when stuck in traffic (actually most big bikes also same la), not to mention accidental scaldings on ankles or calf when u get careless of the exhaust pipes.. moral of the story is never ride with shorts & slippers on this bike... or any other bike for dat matter.. (except on kapkia)

 

But overall I'll be keeping this bike for many more years to come.. especially now that i have met other RC51 riders who r passionate about the RC51 and not about just top speed of a bike..

$8.5k for a VTR1000 3 years ago indeed is a good price.

If you have gotten it from a shop, it will cost you at least $9-10k.

2005 dec i gt my machine for 8.2k fr shop, been loving this bike since 2001 when i juz gt my 2b lic, saw it on the rd & i told myself i getting this RC51 when i gt my cls 2, when i gt my cls 2 RC51 is the onli bike i looking for, gg all ard SG bike shop to find, nearly give up till i reach my last stop @ defu lane. ther i found my dream bike & happen to noe the previous owner who encounter problem wif this bike & he sold back to shop after few mths onli, think the bike dun like him. the reason i gt this bike not due to any SBK or WSB back den i din know wad is sbk nor wsb, bought it mainly the design, Honda make & my idol Rossi race it on the Suzaka endurance.
