I got a said to be faulty CDI contributed by an ex bandit rider for my project.

Last nite I do a precheck for all the connectors on this CDI, nothing abnormal except the reading is higer than spec (mega ohms range instead of Kilo ohms).

Anyway I use a dremel and cut around the CDI box and split it into halves. Remove all the glue holding the circuit board and pull it out, need quite abit of strength as the board is slotted inside a groove and there is some glue holding onto it. After which I use some solvent to remove all the remains of the rubber compounds covering the board so that I can desolder and remove the components easily.

Tonight I'm going to desolder all the 5 capactiors, yes 5 of them instead of 4 not sure why. The orientation of the capacitors looks slightly different from the one in the german website but it has got the same part number.

http://www.picturesky.com/albums/userpics/11010/ignitor.jpg

Will keep you guys posted of what the new readings on the board after I solder on the new capacitors....

That time my CDI down i do only got 4 capacitors... Ya the arrangement is different from the german website... Mine is 3 together and 1 seperate in the middle... After changing i click once can start in the morning liao... But after changing very hard to start... Cos i guess the capacitor got no energy inside... So after starting and move around and charge the capacitors, my CDI ok liao... Oh ya BTW it's no very easy to solder the thing... So i bought the capacitors and let a guy solder at sim lim tower...

I just desolder the 5 capacitors, 2x 10uF(50v, 105degree c), 2x 47uF(35v, 85 degree c) and 1x 10uF(25v, 85 degree c). Going to get the spares from SLT tomorrow.

Btw which shop did you get the cap from and where did you send for soldering?

Sure why not... Then i go solder lor... next time u guys need spare CDI can take from me... Roughly around $10 but that time i gave the guy $20 cos he complain very hard to solder... capacitors super cheap... 4 for just $0.80... But must ownself find lar... Note the capacitor's shape is different... But can use 1... Oh ya BTW changing capacitor might not help... But it's a cheap way to try 1st b4 changing CDI... cos CDI ex lar... BTW when you free? i wanna fix the horn... U still have?

There are many possibilites could be the metal plate warp, clutch sleeve hub or clutch basket scourge.

I will be experimenting to change the clutch plate, clutch spring and clutch release bearing on my own. Hopefully it will solve the problem. At the same time I will check the metal plate, clutch sleeve hub and clutch basket to see if they are scourge.

You use back the original CDI casing which you cut open?? I'm afraid rain water might find it way there. I hope to get a new casing from SLT to contain the circuit board and waterproof it myself. I will use a glue gun to hold the cap after I solder the new ones.

Do you sill have problem starting the bike after replacing the capacitors? Did you check if the guy solder the capacitor polarities correctly?

How is your gear shifting after you change the clutch plate at planet motorcycles, did you change the clutch spring and clutch release bearing?

CAPACITOR CHECK

1. Disconnect capacitor from circuit.

2. Discharge capacitor by shorting between terminals.

3. Check capacitor with ohmmeter set at highest resistance scale:

If meter indicates a very low resistance which then gradually increases, the capacitor does not require replacement.

If meter indicates a very high resistance which does not diminish, it is open and should bereplaced.

If meter indicates a very low resistance which does not increase, the capacitor is shorted and should be replaced.

2 of the CDI cap shows high resistance and gradually dropping and the other 2 shows high resistance and gradually increasing. The last cap legs broke off so cant check.

i wait for u to experiment 1st :D

Should have ask the old man at GH, the malay guy quite new, no experience. The last time I called to ask the quote to change clutch plate, the auntie, magaret, also say must change clutch sleeve hub if not no guarantee it will be smooth. :giddy:

Its not cheap to change the clutch sleeve hub, I will ask a few opinions from bikeshop to see what they say. Btw what engine oil are you using??

By the way, Hazzan is not new, in fact he is quite experienced.
