costs more than the plates? hmm so the idea is change plates will improve the situation but it wun be solved until u change the sleeves too?

i using royal purple...full syn...cheap lah..no money...10 bucks per 900ml

Margaret quote me $250 to change the clutch plates and clutch sleeve hub.

Assume the following price at Guan Hoe

Engine oil 3L, $18 * 3 = $54

Clutch Plates $85

Gasket $7

Workmanship $49

Then clutch sleeve hub will be $104. Have you tried using better fully syn oil? it helps in clutch shifting and I have read some riders avoid expensive repair by changing to better oil. I have tried Repsol fully syn on mine and it doesnt help in gear shifting when the bike is hot during traffic jam however engine very smooth compare to Total 4T.

My haynes manual says if indention are deep on the clutch housing they can prevent clutch release, which means the clutch plate are still engage when you clutch in which make gear shifting difficult, and it must be replace. If the indention can be remove easily with a file the housing life span can be extend.

Even if u ask Mr Han(the boss), he'll tell u the same thing.

By the way, Hazzan is not new, in fact he is quite experienced.

Most bike shop will tell you to change because they make more $$.

I prefer bike shop which check the parts to see if its spoilt before advicing the customer need to change or not. And I have read planet motorcycle will not change parts unneccessarily, unless its unrepairable.

upgear is easy..but down gear kinda hard..

the bike also move jus a bit when engaging gear one..

I'm using Castrol HD engine oil..$20 for 5 ltrs.

Wanna check wit u guys, where are ur I.U units mounted?on the side wit bracket?

I'm looking for bracket to mount the I.U on the center(like S4)..any lobangs?or do i hav to go custom make one?

Have you check your clutch cable free play? Try to use better engine oil (e.g Mobil, Fuchs, Motul Fully syn oil before going for the more expensive repair e.g replacing the clutch plates?

Go to Mah motor, opp SLT, they sell the IU bracket for $15, I got mine installed there. If not can ask the Super 4 forummer, they use the pipe clamp, $3 to mount their IU unit on the handle bar.

Went to SLT and got all the capactors, even the high temp ones 105 degree c is available. Check the new capacitors, they too exhibit high resistance at first and the value slowly dropping, maybe the old capacitors are ok. Anyway going to solder them on the board this sunday, should be very easy because there is a soldering station at my work place.

Saw the casing at SLT, couldn't find the size I want, may need to get a slightly bigger one to see if can fit under the seat once the board is tested ok on the bike.

Get something better to pamper your engine lah, work so much OT. Try Motul300v, Fuch Pro4 plus or Redline engine oil, hearing good feedback on these oil. :thumb:

Going to solder the capacitors this sunday when I go to work, hopefully it will work and I will have a spare CDI..

GO back and complain to the boss Ah Chong. Anyway the Bandit fork spring are weak in the first place, if got $$ can change to a better after market one. I read from the old Bandit post there is a guy, DCspare, selling off his Bandit fork spring and rear shock for Bandit1200 maybe can fit onto your bike.

Hard to shift gear may not be just your clutch housing or clutch plate worn, it maybe the low grade of oil you are using. And changing to a better oil may solve your problem. You maybe surprise your clutch plate may still look brand new when you take them out.

Even though you change new housing and clutch plate but still continue to use low grade of engine oil you will still experience difficult is gear shifting. Get my drift?

Btw good oil protect your engine and save you $$ for engine overhaul in the long term, its your call.

Yee ha...I just open the clutch cover and remove all the clutch plate

Tools needed for the operation

5mm allen key

8mm wrench

17mm wrench

21mm wrench

Rubber mallet

Cable tie x 2

Oil container

Rags

You will be surprise changing clutch plate is easier than removing the carburetor.

Procedures

a. Park the bike on side stand and drain the engine oil, use 21mm wrench for the drain bolt.

b. Loosen and remove the 5mm allen bolts, take note 2 of the bolts are longer, mark those.

c. Tap around the clutch cover with mallet to loosen it up and remove the cover

d. Hold the generator rotor with 17mm wrench and loosen the pressure plate 8mm bolts in a criss cross manner.

e. Remove the 8mm bolts, spring and specer.

f. Remove the clutch plates one by one and arrange them in order then secure it in a bundle with cable tie so you can remember the order of installation later.

Preliminary inspection

a. The gasket is in one piece and reuseable

b. Clutch release bearing in good condition

c. Clutch spring all the same length will check the spec of the serviceable length

d. The metal plate no burnt mark, will check on my mosac with feeler gauge

e. The fibre material plate looks very thin and some of them very dry, will measure to confirm

f. The clutch housing looks normal to me couldn't feel any burs on then, will check throughly again.

Btw you need to have clutch sleeve holder if you want to change the clutch sleeve housing. I tried engaging first gear and jam on my rear brake still the housing will turn. The holder can be fabricated with 2 long piece of metal plates according to my haynes manual.

And to remove the primary gear, the outer housing, for inspection the generator needs to be remove first and that requires another special tool.

The clutch plates, spring, push rod, bearing and pressure plate.

Found only the inner most metal plate got 2 burnt mark and one layer of black coating(I suspect its the fibre material) which I wipe off easily. The burnt mark I use scotch brite to polish off.
