Repair it then seriously, at least when u sell, it's worth some money. If u decide to scrap it, let me know what parts are available. I will buy from you then. I am also riding a bandit myself.

 

Or if not, do you have any mods on your bike, sell those to raise some money to overhaul it. Any aftermarket exhausts? Windshield? U know things like that.

 

So sorry to hear of your situation. U probably feel lousy now. U have my sympathies.

nah lah..bike n scooter probably..i dun thik i will have that much savings..probably tml i call again to see how much they will quote..

Sad to hear abt yar bike bro. I m currently seriving me ns now, i can understand yar situation when tokking abt economical factors vs passion for yar bike.

 

I wld sugguest by scrapping or selling it away in this condition...wat ever u have spent on it is going to a waste. unless u feel u dun wan to spend anymore on it.

 

If yar bike has not been giving problems n u like it but u r facing financial difficulties...as u said try seekin help frm friends n family members...top overhaul is definatly a pinch for u now but lookin at it for a long term prospect, u safely have a reliable engine for the next few yrs.

That's always a toughie. It does reminds us banditos that our bikes is an oldie and we have to take care of it properly.

 

Actually could you share with us on what was the cause for the loss of compression in your pistons? WHat do you feel is the problem or cause of it? SHare this info so the rest of us will knw how to take care of bandits more properly.

I'm curious what cause the lost in compression, worn piston rings?? Is it related to engine oil and over rev of the engine??

 

I would suggest guan hoe for the top overhaul, because they know the spec of your bike better, I bet the other shop can match.

 

Personal experience I overhaul my nsr125 at a reputable shop for $600, they took more than 2 months for the overhaul, in between call me say they install wrong parts and need to strip engine again (stoopid reaon). After I got back the bike, it totally lost power and die when travel above 80km/h.

 

Send it back and complain, they rejet the carb, bike able to travel above 80km/h but still no power, fuel consumption fall from 220km to reserve to 100km to reserve. In the end sold the bike off.

got confession to make... my oil change was overdue...7500km on royal purple..was plannin to change after my exams on wed... however i think it's not due to this solely, though i'm sure it contributed..guys take note..dun blur like me..

 

anyway i'm ok with the shop..the boss is legendary for stripping engines bare and checking part by part.. ok lah..apparently abit expensive..but now i think it doesnt make sense to shift to guan hoe..considering that i need to pay the 1st shop workmanship for stripping

 

if anything less than 1k..i will do..max should be 1.2k..anything more than that..u ppl can expect the following parts to be on sale..

 

givi 48l box

2 dunlop tt501 tyres (3 mths old)

pair of bmw grips

black tank

snake skin seat

10 mth old chain

working speedo/tacho

handlebar..

wat else...ah take anything but the engine lah..vultures standby

I didn't install any thing on my bandit, it is almost original! (Not even a box) I like the way it is. That is also the reason why I bought the bike.

k thts kool. Wats yar rear spocket size? hows much can u travel b4 hitting reserve?

 

mine i hit reserve at ard 240+km sometimes lucky hit 250+ la. My worse experience was i pillion my fren to KL b4 reaching malacca 172km hit reserve upon reaching malaaca (alor gajah) reserve also finishing.

haven't diagnose the cause of the problem yet? what's the scrap value of your bike? i dunno leh, but somehow it seems not worth it to me.. just my opinion la. eh i PM you la..

 

(but hor if you rebuild, then you'll need to run in the bike right? can try hard run-in leh ;p) (and btw i'll buy your speedo and hugger/mudguard at your asking price if you're scrapping)

yeap same here, petrol consumption goes down to about 15-16 km/l when travelling 160kmph on the metre (on trips to KL and malacca). that's on the old sprocket, haven't tried new one on road yet.

Now, I can only click 220km b4 reserve for normal riding where else, I used to click 250km b4 reserve b4 overhaul.

 

I did my overhaul a N-trust n it take me more than a mth. Change a lots of stuff even d piston. In total, I spent $1500 just only d parts n abt $700 for d workmanship....

Bro, where can i check the spocket size cos I took over the bike and didn't change the spocket yet hence I didn't know if it was original.

FC for me is lousy. Before I went overseas, I normally travelled about 230 b4 hitting the reserves but when I return till now, the reserves is hit at about 200km (18km/litre). Maybe due to dirty carb or what, dunno why......

yar sprocket size is on the sprocket itself. The no. shld be 40+. Mine too i haven changed since i got my bike yet.

mine is 45. but frm the manual they say final reduction ratio (44/14) so i think the rear sprocket shld be 44 la.

 

Abt consumption i too experienced this b4. Use to do abt 240-250+ till reserve then ard 190-220 ard there will kenna reserve already. I had 2 pts to take note. During this period when my FC hiked i was always having a pillion everyday to n from my camp. Then now i dun pillion anyone tht regularly anymore n jus happened tht time aft i stop taking pillion i change my air n oil filter aft tht FC was back to normal.

 

So either changing the filters or maybe the amount u pillion someone might be the reason of FC increasing other then servicing carb. I too intially thought i might need to service my carb.

On my ex bandit, it use to be 240-250km then reach reserve. After I pump up the rear tire to 36psi, it improves slightly to 265km.

 

After I change the worn jet needle, it went up to 320+km before reserve with RON 95 or 98, with Vpower the mileage is lesser.

wow thts a big diff aft changing yar jet needles. So u wld suggest for those of us whos milage is bearly 250km till reserve our jet needles are worn out?

So how many litres brings u till reserve?12litres then reserve rite?

You have to see what is the cause of the high fuel consumption, mine was due to worn jet needles. Other may not be the same problem. I learnt from Chee Teck his bandit can go till 300km before reserve so when slowly doing the bike I found the problem at the jet needles.

like mine is 15litres but 3 litre reserve so 12litre will kenna use reserve, do u still remember how much was yars?

 

might help me in calculating consumption.

12.5-13.5L (able to squeeze in more fuel if pump slowly).

 

Bandit P model spec, 12.5L main and 3.5L reserve.

Yes.... Wif Pillion some more. Then she complaint to me, tat is very slow. Hence, she pillion too much on my Haya liao. Usually, on Haya at Long trip, I travelled abt 180 - 200km/h constantly n once in a while I pump up to 280km/h wif her. If alone, I will go fastest abit.

One thing i noticed abt pump slowly ah...like pump to the brim already...then the petrol level will go downa bit, then can pump somemore..will the petrol level will go down again...i try like tht until i managed to pump 0.5 litres more still like can pump somemore bit by bit until the pump attendent also waiting for me to pay then i give up la. how come like tht ah?

wah power la yar pillion...mine i pillion anyone guy or agals...bove 110 will complain i going fast already. mostly the ones who complain are guys la. ladies most of them seem to enjoy the thrills. But now a days in sg also 60 on neighbourhood roads n abt 90 on expressway seems like notting la.
