Sorry then. I'll take back all my words. Buy whatever helmet you want. Bye ~~

ki113r you dun have to say sorry!:p As this Thread is "Non PSB approved helmets" , we should discuss on how to get the authority to accept other reliable establish and quality hemlet to be approved in Singapore rather then getting some of "Non PSB approved helmets" which brands that we have not hear of!

As mention earlier LTA should allow individual to send in Helmet(s) for testing with a reasonable fee and pass them respectively with PSB sticker! So that we are covered with the insurance rather then having a loophole for insurance to take advantage to reject claims for "Non PSB approved helmets"! (Insurance pay is easy when you started to claim, they will look for anything to reject you)

You trust the brand, you like the model and the quality is there. Once tested and approved, your are fully insured to use the helmet, why not!

I don't mind paying a small fee, to test on the existing helmet I'm wearing! What do you guys think or any good suggestion?

** PSB tested in batches but not every single pc that sold in the market, you can't guarantee the one you wear does not have any defect!

i hope you read my previous posts on the subject here in this thread, you obviously have not...in case you are too lazy to do so, i summarise below...

I HAVE TO REPEAT A MILLION TIMES! IS IT?

DOT = NO TESTING was ever done ! NONE! ZERO! 0!

yet i can see so many posters way back from 2011 insist that DOT is Better than PSB.

know why they cannot give PSB sticker for your 'DOT' Helmet? cause PSB, unlike DOT, do not give sticker based on paperwork.

EVERY SINGLE BATCH/CONSIGNMENT imported here must be tested before PSB give sticker.

UNLIKE SNELL ( pass 1 time enough, the SNELL sticker is still given out many batches, even years later, WITH NO FURTHER TESTING)...

Btw, any helmet that is tested is not deem safe for use anymore.

So if you want to get PSB sticker, you need to buy several helmets, send them for testing. PSB test a few, if ok, then get sticker for the ones that are untested. THe tested ones cannot use already, understand.

you buy 1 helmet, send for testing. after testing, your helmet cannot use already.

if PSB test every single helmet, all helmet pass also no use, all must be discarded! GET IT? hahaha...

first of all bro, i think you better accept that other people can have different opinions from you. you shout or repeat certain facts doesn mean you correct. quite frankly your shouting and inisting that you are correct is getting annoying.

but let me correct you one thing: 'DOT' is not there is no testing. DOT says the manufacturer must test themselves and submit documents to USA's department of transport (DOT) to show proof that the helmets meet or exceed the standards.

this of course does not answer your criticisms of DOT. its entirely possible the manufacturer never test, or test but fail, and submit forged or doctored documents showing their products passed the standards, or they might purposely 'skew' the test to make sure the product passed. its up to USA DOT to enforce and ensure that such cheating is rooted out. BUT we dont know how well they enforce, therefore your criticisms about DOT still stands. but DOT is not equal to 'NO TESTING'.

second, your main gripe about international standards is the lack of batch testing. most are arguing about the test standard, that the standards of for example SNELL may actually exceed those of PSB. but you insist on flat out rejecting any such discussion because "if its not batch tested, the standard is irrelevant", and you just shout down anyone who tries to talk about international standards.

Fine. ECE 22.05 is batch-tested, with standards accepted all over Europe and also in high level motorsports competitions. does this standard meet your approval for integration with PSB?

By logic of no helmet will save you from a head on crash at 50, might as well you don't wear helmet, no difference what wear half cap, open face or full face, who the hell goes everywhere below 50.

Until then, I'll keep on wearing non PSB approved helmets from AGV or Shoei or HJC or whatever brand MotoGP riders are wearing bahhahaha. I'll take standards used by motosports in countries where they actually do motorsports rather than from a country that has little to no support for motorsports, other than holding F1 because you can close streets and make money at the same time, make track here too expensive, spend on a failure of an event like Youth Olympics better.

ex GP rider Nakano survived a 200mph crash on his Arai FF...ok I referring to his helmet protected his head.

I also using Arai FF...and I paid extra $50 premium for the PSB approved batch.

slowly we will grow to know tat LTA and PSB all these old hags spent too many years in the mountain tat time had past ahead of them.

no offence. all these technical specs I don't need to know. its the practicality tat matters. when one crash, its the helmet tat save him not tat piece of sticker or paper.

cheers

ever saw what happens to a car collision at only 60kph?

if i recall correctly, NO HELMET will save you at speeds above 50kph. NONE, not even the best made one.

some years ago, a female rider was killed on thailand highway wearing a full faced Expensive famous brand helmet.

Ask the famous brands, do they guarantee you won't die, or head won't get injured in a crash?

i have been in a crash before, my $25 helmet hit a car bumper on the expressway & saved my life. i have known of others in expensive helmets, giving them false sense of security & died in a crash.

maybe it is due to the fact i was riding too slowly while they rode too fast.

bottom line? what do you think?

Dear Mr/ Miss brue71

You may said I'm lazy for not reading your million times posting! As I'm not interested on how good technical terms of explanation and exaggeration you post but what you have explain the above is PSB tested in every batch and since you are an expert and seem to understand the operation on how PSB work.

1) May I hear from you again PSB test in batches of helmets, with every shipment in. Does is "the supplier send in several helmets from this shipment to PSB themselves" or "PSB with go to the supplier's warehouse to pickup any few helmets from this shipment to test?

2) Next after testing and they pass this batch! who will stick the PSB approved stickers for the remaining helmets for this shipment? PSB / Supplier?

3) Can the PSB guarantee, the rest of the helmets from this batch has not defect or every helmet has the same standard? (Like i mention after my posting which you didn't understand! you want nice durian for durian party, I will send you AAA grade once you accept it is good and meet your standard and budget. what I send in for the party AAA or AA or A or ????? You would not know, if you are not in the party?

4) May know, are you working in PSB or you have someone working there? If yes, can you clearly highlight how the helmet is being test or did they really test the helmet or the same test as DOT standard (supplier send in paperwork of the previous batch that passed before and a few helmets just for show, to get certify for a PSB sticker) ?

mechwira: thumb up for what you explain!

Jehuty: I agreed on what you said "I'll keep on wearing non PSB approved helmets from AGV or Shoei or HJC or whatever brand MotoGP riders are wearing" ! I trust MotoGP standard and reliable brand as well but don't forget the insurance we paid yearly, if "no PSB stickers" any minor accident you can't claim from the inurance agent.

With "Approved PSB sticker" in your helmet insurance will cover, "NO PSB sticker" insurance NOT cover during minor/major accident! Don't forget insurance claims(big/small case) is to protect you and your love one, if anything really happen. What this discussion is on how to improve "Non PSB approved helmets" with reliable and owner trusted brand helmets to be use in Singapore and insurance to be valid!

Soo.... surprise to see some cheap brands that never hear with PSB approved stickers, where else some good and establish brands there is no sticker! maybe Singapore market is too..................small with many...................... red tapes, thats why others don't bother to venture into our market!

if I am not wrong...as long as your helmet saved your head or even a drop...have to change liao...be it cheap Hyper or expensive Arai...

correct me if I am wrong...

I used to have arai helmet...true to what someone here say that after a crash test the helmet can't be use anymore...one time I skidded n my arai crashed onto a divider....it saved my life....the arai helmet got cracked olredy....but i still used it when i ride my rxk....then one day it got stolen from my bike....so I go buy another arai...I hv full trust on it to protect my head....

arai conducts non-destructive test on each and every one of their helmets. this, coupled with the fact that arai is hand-made, is what makes arai so expensive. many people quickly say more expensive = much safer and therefore arai is the safest helmet in the world because most expensive, without understanding the factors that make arai so expensive.

hand-made vs machine-made, doesn mean hand-made is safer. non-destructive test on every single helmet vs destructive batch testing, is also very debatable which results in 'safer' helmets. the only confirmed thing is why arai is expensive, not that their helmets are safest in the world.

Let's accept that there are two main schools of thought on PSB approvals, and many different opinions on whether it's worth the cost or even necessary, so let's work with facts here:

1) PSB-approved helmets are the only legit ones here. Only they prevent you from getting a ticket from an enthusiastic TPman or failing to make a claim on your comprehensive insurance.

2) The PSB certification process entails destructive testing, imposing a cost on distributors that scales with the base cost of the helmet tested.

3) A large majority of PSB-approved helmets available in Singapore are inexpensive.

4) Many of the more expensive helmet brands available in Singapore lack PSB approval.

5) Most of these expensive helmet brands meet other national/international safety standards (DOT, SNELL, JIS, ECE etc.), some of which meet Moto GP requirements, but those standards (and the testing required to attain them) vary.

6) More expensive helmets tend to be of higher quality than cheaper ones.

7) No single item of motorcycling PPE - including helmets - can protect riders against all forms of injury.

Regardless of how what one thinks or feels about PSB approval, it really boils down to an individual rider's choice of how much one's safety is worth spending money on. That of course depends a lot on how much one is able to afford; we must remember that not many riders can or are willing to spend over $700 on a PSB-approved full-face Arai or Shoei, and for the significant majority of riders, a $40 PSB-approved helmet is more trustworthy than a $40 one without the sticker.

At the end of the day, point #7 is the most important. The best helmet in the world will not save the life of a reckless rider wearing nothing but his underpants, and even the most skilled rider in full racing leathers will not survive being run over by a bus.

We have bunch of idiots in power and people who conform to the LTA and their crap don't help one bit.

Who can confirm that insurer won't allow claim if motorcyclist is wearing NON-PSB approved helmets?

i asked this question several pages ago to see if anyone can confirm if there has ever been a motorcyclist accident victim in singapore who was denied compensation because helmet not psb. nobody has ever heard of a confirmed case, or at least nobody has shared of such a case here.

what i can definitely confirm is that beyond the stickers (whether psb or dot or snell), if you indeed were wearing an obviously unsafe helmet such as a fashion half-helmet (coconut husk style) or an ultra-cheap poor quality uncertified helmet, then yes your claims may be reduced or even denied.

even though i also donno of such cases, internationally such cases have occurred. the rationale is that when you purposely wear unsafe helmet, even if you were victim you are deemed to be responsible for aggravating the injury and therefore not entitled to full compensation. but in all of these international cases, the compensating insurer must physically prove the helmet model was not safe with their own testing and not just show that it lacked the local legal certification. if coconut husk helmet, no need to test because it is already taken that the half-shell is not safe. if its a 'proper' open or full face without sticker, they must obtain the same model and put it thru the ECE/DOT test (depending which is the country) and show that it fails. but they cannot simply decide no sticker automatically reduce/deny claim.

but like i said, nobody has ever heard of this being an issue in any local claims. i'm also waiting for someone to share.

Well if it comes down to that, the outcome of a PSB approved Nova, MHR and those common cheap open face helmets vs a full face Arai, Shoei, HJC is obvious.

2) PSB

1) what do you think? i think instead of me keep replying to you & then you don't believe anything i say, just because i am speaking up for a Local body ( some singaporeans have the 'foreign always better, USA always best' RELIGION entrenched deep in brain, shut out all facts that prove otherwise )

why don't you go & personally find out how it is being done? If after seeing yourself & you still think DOT is better, any thing i say or anything you see is never going to shake your beliefs, so why should i bother any further?

Ask yourself, if PSB or any local body had done the same, many guys like yourself will be merciless in attacking them. someone here in this thread even went as far as to suggest that PSB may be corruptible & taking 'bribes' from suppliers to give sticker, the same someone who does not understand why his helmet cannot just take the test & get a sticker.

So only Singapore are corruptible & falliable. only Singapore got 'no international standards'. After doing so much 'international standards testing' & even 'every single batch testing', it is not enough?

it cannot even be compared to just paper submission by USA?

most of the time, i would have made a sacarstic snide joke about it ( my 'flawed' nature? Should life be humourless? just boring following politically correct myths? )...

but i can't. Cause i am too disappointed that such blantant double standards exist even today...neutral observers reading this thread can judge for themselves.

i do not wish to say more. so this is what Singaporeans really are? i rest my case...

i dun care if you or anyone else is disappointed in me because my life i don't answer to you.

from the first time i mentioned DOT, i have always agreed that the main flaw with DOT is proof of testing and results. if you reject DOT as an acceptable standard on such grounds, i find that perfectly understandable, because a lot of people around the world including american riders themselves have such an opinion.

you claim i am prejudiced, that i will 'attack' PSB if it had such a flaw, yet i have always agreed DOT is flawed in this manner. in fact i have never attacked PSB, i actually support the existence of the PSB sticker.

and you still don't get wat i am trying to say, that DOT's flaw is with its implementation, but its actual testing standard and procedure is still a valid point of discussion. i am not ignoring DOT's flaw, or saying that DOT should be an acceptable standard by PSB despite such a blatant flaw. i am merely looking at a different aspect of DOT and comparing.

so if i'm the prejudiced one, you haven't answered my question: ECE 22.01 conducts batch testing by third party to certify helmets. will you 'approve' ECE 22.01 merging with PSB certification? or are you the one prejudiced?

but since you don't want to say anymore, and just claim that singaporeans way of thinking and discussion not good enough for you, mebbe i won't get an answer. well, at least can have civilised discussion without capital letter shouting to get a point across.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Aiya simple la, PSB approved open face vs a non PSB approved full face. Which one are you confident that it has a higher chance of saving your head. Comparing PSB and DOT is pointless.

well... he did imply that the PSB open face is better because apparently riders like you and me who wear the supposedly safer full face will feel invincible or something and end up riding dangerously, whereas a rider who wears the open face dun feel so safe will ride safely.

and if anybody want to say i misinterpret or misunderstand, heres what he said:

i have been in a crash before, my $25 helmet hit a car bumper on the expressway & saved my life. i have known of others in expensive helmets, giving them false sense of security & died in a crash.

maybe it is due to the fact i was riding too slowly while they rode too fast.

bottom line? what do you think?

i dun need to say it, but the idea that i will ride more recklessly after wearing what i feel is a safer full face is of course ridiculous.
