another view of the fire bike if you guys havent seen this. pipe lowered?

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l251/tanjianhua/24302.jpg

now then i see this, yes, frm the older Ver S to the new Revo, all pipes lower near the endcan section to accomodate the panniners otherwise mounting will be very high thus causing weight distribution problem to handling problem for the riders.

Where to get those crash bars? And anyone knows the cost of it?

From SKMIC(short for Seng Kwang).

Shld cost an arm and a leg.....

no lah, kidding, but in hundreds & bike leave @ shop for 2-3 days?

one forumer on Spec 1(i think) did it on his, forgot his nick...

Ic. Thanks.

Just to share with everyone here. Hock Thiam Heng has 30+ litre panniers with rack for $600. Includes install and brand is called Krauser. Made in Germany. Used by BMW bikes of past.

Looks like a couple of thick brief cases and won't fit helmet, but should be able to put a lot of other stuff.

Not as wide as Givi keyless so squeezing should be okay.

Google Krauser pannier to see what they look like. Might go get them next week.

With the right mounting to the body frame, I guess there's no need for a cross retaining bar.

Most tourers like St/Fjr/Kawa do not have this retaining bar.

http://img.tapatalk.com/c0370e24-f1d5-30d8.jpg

From Fjr, 2 hooks to body frame and 1 groove for mount to back footrest.

The only reason I can think of why panniers are at the back is weight distribution and cosmetic obviously.

Kiddos to kittykat bf for daring to mount that way..seen some on overseas bike b4 mount on pulsars.

Just my 1ct worth.

Ps: need to change front tire more often.. :p

Yes, those side panniers were specificity designed with consideration to the aerodynamics of the bikes and both the mounts and Panniers are designed with the bike's rear frame in consideration.

And IMHO, the side panniers is not only meant for Weight Distribution & Cosmetic Look...:giddy:

Should the Side Boxes are mounted in front (Side of the Tank)....Can you imagine upon a side crash.. the boxes give way and impacting / crashing onto the riders leg?

Case Study:

Years ago during an Overseas Trip with my team; Upon exiting a Petrol Station, one of the bike (Sports Tourer) stopped by the Exit to look out for incoming Traffic...

The 2nd approaching Bike (Also a Sports Tourer) fail to keep the safety distance and E-Bake, swing/swayed to side to avoid a rear end collision. However, both bikes side panniers came into contact (Impact)... Both bike skidded and both Panniers flew off upon impact...

Both riders are fine, but can't say much for the panniers.... Imagine the INJURY:cry: should/if the Side Panniers were mounted in front of the rider leg... :pity:

They are fitted to the rear for a "Very good Reason...":thumb:

After market panniers usually comes with a cross section link bar to strength the rear and mid frame section of the bike.

Part of the reason is that the Rear Frame is/may not be originally design to handle the extra loading... .. After Market Rack System are design with the following in mind:

~ Reducing Metal Fatigue.

~ Increasing rear frame rigidity

~ Reducing Vibration Stress.

~ High Speed stability due to altered aerodynamics of the bike.

~ Handling "Excessive" Load.

For example:

That's my 2 Cents... too....:)

Anyone has purchase and install coocase box on their bikes? I am thinking of getting either 36/48L box.. Any advice?

im using coocase 48L. water leaks in. after heavy rain, it becomes swimming pool inside. sad

try adding the rubber tape or rubber lining within the box interior??

Are u referring to the inner liner placed in the box to prevent helmet from being scratch??

Posted

i am using shad48... i "downgrade" from maxia52...

shad48 looks much nicer and still can fit 2 full face helmet.

i am able to re-use my old rack. just swap the baseplate and the box is in.

in my opinion, shad48 is quite solid.. much better than givi45 which i used to had.. and about same built quality as givi52.. no regrets.

err..no..for helmets, best to be stored in bag before having them kept to prevent any scratches..hmm, what i meant was..you know when you open up the box..the area where the top and bottom of the box intersects into a think gap..that area should have some kind of rubber rubber thingy..yea..or maybe the inner surroundings..if not present, you might want to diy by buying rubber strips and having them aligned against the inner outer most both top and bottom..

hmmm..you know those electrical provision shop..example computer parts, they have silicon rubber..get those 2mm broad and 5mm wide, which are of a little higher grade, due to hot weather..won't cause you much..and measure you box circumference and multiply by 2 and add a little slack and buy the required length..a little more expensive get from home fix diy..get it glue on with water resistant adhesive..don't ever use super glue..
