odd looking depends on you. if you feel it looks odd then it will. having a box wont have problem. just make sure you check the brackets and screws holding it at regular intervals. but you might not be able to enjoy such high speed like before tho.

Guys wondering if any of you put a top box bigger size than 45L one? I am considering the Maxia II 55L. Will it look odd and also going at high speed have problem?

The E55 is the maxia 3.

Depends. If you put it on an r6, it would look... odd.

High speed, negligible loss on the straight. When banking over either side, weight distribution is pulled back. Ymmv.

I'm currently using the Kappa 52L,

Like:

~ Space

Dislike:

~ Weight. even when it's empty.... heavy.

~ High speed handling issue...

So.... it's a chicken & egg issue.... I still prefer to have it on for my trips up north... just don't go too fast... that's all.

To Me....

I just fixed a Kappa 52L box on my bike. So far, pick up no issue, as i always pillion maybe thats why i feel no difference.

As for handling issue, i travelled once on e-way with this box without a pillion, and yeah, can feel abit the box wobbling if i go 100-110km.

Normal road riding no problem.

I'm riding a vtec-3 so the rack got proper mounting point right? Meaning i no need to check anything periodacally right?

And as what stoner mentioned, i love this box as its big. Really big. I can fit 2 helmets, 2 pairs of raincoat and a pair of slippers. Just need to figure out how to position the items correctly. Lol.

Hi Mate,

Check the part/position where the back of the box slide onto the Metal Plate, what I did was I installed/pasted a layer of Rubber double sided tape on the Metal Sliding Plate.... thus, providing a better fit...

Hope I made sense...

Sooooo.. no hope on the rack on spec 1? I have to live with the weak mounting point? :( I want a 45l/48l box.. but i am just afraid my box will end up on some expressway or even in malaysia.. :|

Advise anyone? Other than the N bar that bro Kev's suggested? Thanks

If you read back this thread, the mounting point @ the (used to be) bungee cord hook point is a weak point.

It'll either, due to weight stress, break from the sub-frame.

Re-welding back the point will still occur the problem.

This is because the design of this bike, especially spec 1 & 2, does not have specifically rack for mounting boxes, and the boxes company will have to use conventional ideas to fabricate the mounts.

The worse case of stress fracture, was that the rack itself, at the curve up point broke, just ask dragonforce.

& he was using Givi E52 then.

Main thing of using this rack & mount is that, periodic check the sub-frame and also not to overload the box.

There is, however, a way to curb this, but, to each his own views, maybe ugly.

SCDF's fleet had fabricated a "n" shape metal(nt sure which material) over the rear seat and tail for its Wingrack, thus spreading the load as if there's a pillion on it instead of just having just the mount points of the suspension and bungee cord hook point.

just my 0.001¢

@Kev's: Thanks for the info... Other than the N shape bar.. any other ways? like custom making a new rack with different mounting point?

I am intending to tour with my spec1 :/ :dozed:

my broken rack have become a case study already? lol. yeah my left givi rack broke into 2 while i was at msia.. lucky i was so near the checkpoint and it was a petrol trip in only..

Are you still riding spec1 then? Using the same kind of rack again?

It appears that chiap lee is the new distributor for sw-motech. I will be purchasing a side panniers holder from them. Got quoted 350, which sounds fair. Though I am a little concerned that it might not have the adapter kit included

Was a little concerned by how curt the fellow on the phone was, earlier. Any feedback on their service?

Does SW-Motech have anything for Vtec-3? Like topbox or rack?

No. They don't. Unless you want to modify the one for the cb13.

Took the plunge, and made a deposit for a SW-MOTECH side-case carrier quick release system. I think I got a fair price, comparing with direct prices and twisted throttle.

I just hope that chiap lee doesn't disappoint me like mah and southern did.

the guy at the serangoon shop have little/no product knowledge about sw-motech stuff. so, it would be better if you already know what you are looking for.

yes i do agree the prices are quite good.

but do expect waiting time so be long. if they tell you 8 weeks, probably about 10 weeks then goods will arrive.

Oh? I had a friend familiar with buying helmets from them. He told me, unlike mah, the dudes at chiap lee will be the ones calling you if there is a delay in shipment. Which I think is a good practice.

The givi brackets I ordered from southern/mah didn't make an appearance after over 4 months. Tsk Tsk.

Anyone here mounted side pannier for their spec1/2? The last time i checked with ah chong and he told me my mounting point for my rack is on my frame; not my bungee cord holder.

1)Is it safe to say that I can mount side panniers?

2)If I replaced my current monorack with givi wingrack does it mean that I can mount a 52l box without risking the rack from breaking?

Thanks a lot.. :)
