Erm, I think Shell one also have Pay at Pump (PAP???) system where you just insert the card at the pump and pump from there then ride off... Need pin number... My opinion, safer than Speedpass becos of the PIN :p

ohhh... something new to me... i just returned to sillipoh :cheeky: yeah... got PIN more secure

i guess speedpass do away with PIN thinking that as long as car/bike keys are there, speedpass also there. speedpass lost means car/bike keys also gone liow... jialat liow :giddy:

Just curious, how much is the discount for employees of the Chevron Texaco?

Oh ok... For the benefit of those who dunno also then...

Credit card is a charge card that banks gives you the "money" to use first, then they charge you a small interest and you pay them in 30 days times. If you do so, they will not charge any interest to you...

You can use it to do online buying, overseas spending and money withdrawing...

So that means that if you do not have money in the bank for the time being, its okay... Cos you are using what most people called, the "future money"~

But banks require you to have at least $30000 per year of income to apply for one... :sian:

As for debit card, it works like a credit card as a charge card... Only that it does not have a minimum income requirement and that it requires you to have money in the account before you can spend the money.

So debit card is "you spend what you have" card and credit card is "you spend future money card"

How's my lesson? Sweet and simple or bitter and confusing? :p

yesh bro, credit cards are for those who have entered the society to work for a few years and have a relatively stable income already...

Debit cards are created to enable those without credit cards to do online transactions and overseas spendings... (some say to make those who cannot meet the requirements feel shiok, because can sign ma~) :p

a charge card is similar to a credit card except that we must pay up in FULL at each statement month. there is no "minimum payment" other than the FULL payment. partial payment (or no payment) usually results in late fee and interest charge, restriction of future transactions and maybe even termination of card

a credit card is a revolving credit instrument which does not need to be paid off in full; as long as minimum payment is made, the rest is considered a loan with interest chargeable.

利滚利 compound interest is VERY HIGH... some people call it it the legalised "ah long". banks don't give you 猪头 pigs head or lock your gates, they just bring you to court. nowadays they also outsource to professional debt collectors. if pay only minimum sum, interest charges amounts to ~2% monthly or 24% per annum of the outstanding balance... interest rates vary with different banks o_O

a debit card is similar to ATM card using NETS. insufficient money in account, transaction won't be approved. difference? card looks & feels nicer than NETS, can sign like credit card and use at some places that can't/don't take NETS :p

credit/charge card = use money you don't or not yet have

debit card = use money which you ALREADY have

MAS Case Story: Credit Cards - Avoiding the Debt Trap

http://www.moneysense.gov.sg/publications/quick_tips/Consumer_Portal_DebtTrap.html

You will not incur any interest charges if you pay the outstanding balance in your credit card in full every month. If you pay only the minimum sum (typically 3% - 5% of the outstanding balance or a certain dollar amount, for example, $50, whichever is higher) stated in your monthly statement, you will incur interest charges amounting to around 2% monthly or 24% per annum of the outstanding balance. This is the usual case unless your credit card charges a lower interest rate. Interest will typically be charged on the outstanding balance from the statement date and any new amounts charged to your credit card.

Assuming that you have an outstanding balance of $1,000 in your credit card statement carried over from the previous month and you only pay the minimum sum of 5%:

Minimum payment = 0.05 X $1,000 = $50

If you do not incur other charges on your credit card during the month:

Estimated Interest charges = 0.02 X $1,000 = $20

Repayment of debt = $50 - $20 = $30

Thus, of the $50 paid, only $30 goes towards reducing the outstanding balance.

Remaining debt = $1,000 - $30 = $970

Even if you do not chalk up any more spending on your credit card and you only service the minimum sum every month, it would take you more than 2 years to pay off your credit card debt of $1,000 and you would have incurred about $290 in interest charges in the process. If you had a bigger outstanding balance (for example, $10,000), you would need more than 8 years to pay off the debt and pay about $6,300 in interest charges. The interest charges actually take up a big percentage of your repayments. These hefty charges can be avoided if you pay the full amount on your credit card statement every month.

http://www.mas.gov.sg/news_room/parliamentary_questions/2005/Reply_to_PQ_on_Consumer_Debt_and_Bankruptcy.html

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education and Deputy Chairman:

4. In the first 6 months of 2005, there were 1,759 bankruptcies. Of that number, 1,207 were consumers and the rest, businesses. 723 consumer bankruptcies were due to credit card debts, or 60% of all consumer bankruptcies. To put this in perspective, the number of credit card bankruptcies as a percentage of credit card users is extremely small, less than 0.05%. The majority of credit card bankruptcies were in the 31-50 years age group. 79% were male and 21% female. We do not collect data on their education levels.
