Hi guys is pulsar 180 more problematic than 200. Read google about it it seems abit more problematic.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/319242-Bajaj-Pulsar-180-for-sale

Keen to get 1 pulsar because the fc is really good. Is it worth getting? I'm a student.

Need to travel from tamp to woodland everyday.

Hi and welcome :)

I don;t think a model is more problematic than another. There are in this group riders who have been riding a 180 for many years , without encoutering more or less problems than 200 riders.

The real question is: if you go for a second hand bike, how was it maintained by the previous owner ?

If it's a brand new bike, than pick whichever you like best, because in the end, both bikes are very much alike. The 200 has some cosmetic enhancements and is oil cooled with an electric starter. But it's not less or more problem free because the 180 is not a problem bike.

Now, if you get a second hand, usually the P200 are newer. because introduce in SG more recently. And usually, they only had one owner before. Whereas the P180 can be at its 3rd owner before you. You can see where I'm going here: it is the rider that makes the second hand bike problematic or not. If the previous owner took care of it, pampered it and used it the way it's supposed to be used (you don't use a racing bike the way you use a scrambler, right ?), then you don't have to worry.

I think a P180 might be more in the range of a student budget, so you mght want to go with it. Just don;t rush buying it if second hand, have someone come with you to assess the bike - one of us will help I'm sure, just ask.

It's the perfect bike to do very long trips like yours. Obviously you won;t be able to ride at more than 110-120 (which is illegal in Singapore anyway), but for long trips, it is the perfect bike: very good for expressway cruising speeds, excellent in traffic jam, heavy enough to procure a certain stability yet easy to control after a few rides.

And yes, in terms of fuel consumption, I can assure you even Kup Kias will not compete with the P180: the biggest tank for a 2B, with the lowest FC ever. Your friends at school will become annoying always asking you to go with them to the station to top-up gaz when you are not even at half your tank ! :cheeky: So if you're looking for the cheapest 2B bike on the market, with a low budget maintenance cost, that's the bike for you. I personally think its speed actually makes it an excellent choice for commuting because you don't need more than 110km/h, but that's just me.

If you've read things that worry you, please ask. We'll give you an answer based on our experience with the bike, like someone said, there's about 3 years in the pages of pulsar riders sharing their experience with Pulsars so I'm sure we'll be able to advise you and help you make a decision.

lol the way u put it, btw there're some low profile pulsarians who posted only a little. some have come n left too...

Yeah, I agree, many low profile pulsarians are there and many came and left too, but for a thread to carry on to 593 pages means there are lots of active riders of the bike and have interest in the bike. If the bike is problematic then they wont have interest in it, just b-i-t-c-h about it and then if cannot tahan anymore will sell it off. You can have a look at the Daelim Roadwin thread. Everyone started b-i-t-c-hing about the bike being problematic and expensive spares and I have seen quite a few of the regulars there selling off their bikes and moving on.

hey Fredd, sorry for your bag ! I feel like I'm special nowbecause I got to see it during its short life with you

But I thought you'd carry it on you as a hip bag or something ? And I assume it was empty when stolen, yes ? (you seem not too angry so it must have been empty)

I don;t think it's just cheapos who stole it: you made the set up very attractive. it fits the handle bar perfectly, it's the optimal size, lets you mobe the handlebar yet keep it centerer and in place, and the velcro makes it super cool. It's all black so can fit anybike.

Myself i was tempted to take it and keep it when i saw it ! :cheeky:

So yeah it's cheap, but it looked nice and very practical -> envy will rise.

Maybe what you can do for the next bag is to lock it, just a simple small lock will be a good deterrent.

erm no common problem :cheeky:

every 2nd hand bike have their own unique problem. if u're getting 2nd hand, advise always get a pro to view the bike. there's a lot of advise in the sticky thread somewhere on what to look out 4 in 2nd hand bikes. however if u're alone, advise get a low milage or get from shop, less problematic 4 u. got budget of cos new :cheeky:

btw, this bike dont have fast pickup, high top speed (110-120km/h). for general traveling in sg, n top-up in m'sia, it's good enough. so it all adds up to what u want to get from a bike.

on that thread u posted, wave is also a good selection, however do note it's tank is small, petrol can only get in SG, thus expensive, n need to topup every few days. thus if u dont like frequent m'sia, n waste time on the Q, i would say u can consider wave. :)

Welcome to SBT.

For a new rider, I suggest you get gloves and crash bar.

If you don't, you will after your first skid.

But might be too late....

I used to dislike gloves but after my first skid and thank God in had my gloves on that time, I saw the gloves after the skid. Hmmm...

Now I feel very uncomfortable without gloves. Trust me.

Thanks for the reply. Btw if i'm getting a pulsar what should i lookout for or check?

What are the common problems? (sorry i never rode pulsar before)

Many thanks!

- Overall outside look and : look for rust, bended pieces, traces of touch ups, scratches, different paint color (to hide something),

- When was the bike last serviced, how often is it serviced

- what's the mileage of the bike (number of kms it clocked - this will show on the dashboard when you ON the bike, can't be altered)

- how many owners before you ? How many riders ?

- Where was the bike sent for repairs and servicing ?

- any accidents ? drops ?

- How much COE is left on the bike ? any installements left to pay ?

- any major work was done to the bike ? Any overhaul (to put it simply it's opening the engine to change or repair key internal pieces or readjust them, not necessarly a bad thing)

- What's the last woner's experience with the bike ?

- Look at the tyres: do they look new, look at the tracks of the tyre, on the rubber, are they still deep or does it look a bit like sandpapered and smooth ? (worn)

- Any changes were made to the sprocket and chain ?

- What oil do they use on the bike ? What fuel ?

- Start the bike and have a ride around: hear any suspicious sound/noise? How's the gear lever at your foot ? smooth enough? Try to go to the fourth gear at least, ho many RPM do you clock on the dashboard for what speed ?

- How do the brakes and clutch feel ? How does the throttle feel ?

- Does the bike have a box, or sideboxes ? Was the rider pillionong someone on a regular basis ?

- Did he do any mods to the bike ?

- check that all lights are working

- Any change of battery ? Ask him to open the side door of the bike soyou can see the battery - you can see how wires are plugged to the battery, someone who takes care of their bike will try to put things together neatly, do you see open wires, not isolated, or old / in bad condition ?

Now, i might be picky on some things. And obviously the seller will want to only show his bike under positive light. But take your time. Ask questions, let him talk about it, bit by bit, he'll share more.

I recommend you take someone with you who knows bikes or even better, who knows Pulsars. it will help you make a decision with confidence.

At the end of the day, you can never be 100% sure of what another rider did to the bike. When riders love their bikes and take care of it, you see it right away by the things they've done to it, and by how much they can tell you aout the bike's specs, performance, and feeling. They will also give you advises on where to service it, what to put for oil etc.. Someone who's taking care of their bike is not necessarily someone who waxes it every week. But it is someone who knows the bike, knows when it needs something and also knows what the bike is for and how to use it.

I believe by talking to the seller, you will get a good sense of that.

It's like if MJ sells his Splitfire someday (you never know, with KTM and all..), I want to be there when he's gonna lecture the buyer about how to take care of the bike and about the bike's history hahaha....

Also, you can ask the seller if he's keen on sending the bike to UM for a check up. if you buy the bike, you can offer to pay for that (you'd have to do it anyway, you don;t want to ride a 2nd hand bike without having a mech look at it first) to convince him to do it. Then UM mechanics will let you know if there's any major issue.

Hope this helps :)

like i share

in the end is bike or rider problem

you can get a new bike but you don't change EO for 30k km

what will happen you can imagine...

some times it is good to have some knowledge of how some stuff works and what is it used for

this will help you to maintain your bike well

for gear box wise we are all complaining here that pulsar should have a 6th gear

haha

any quries go ahead to ask here

yes, i won't lie to u, those initial batch have some gear box issue, but only happen to some ppl. they still can live with it, however i've not encounter. still dont know if it's rider or bike problem.

however ug3 n p200 have not heard of this problem.

I don;t know, depends on how much time they'll need, you can ask for a quote before going.

As for which bikeshop to go to, it's best to go to universal Motors, the official importer for Bajaj bikes. They work on Pulsars 24/6 for many years now so they will know what to look for !
