Hmmm.. what happen to your bike for you to make decision on overhaul??

MJ, when we need to overhaul bike?? when hit 100k km or will never happen if take good care of the bike?

It wasn't my decision to overhaul.. It was the bike's decision that it needed a new heart..

I think 1st owner smoked too much. The heart black already. Then 2nd owner rode for a year, when passed to me got heart attack.

There was the sandy sound from the engine, the clink clank clunk sound also, and bike jerked a few times till i almost fell while cruising during expressway.

Open up engine, too messy. Metal residue, flying ball bearings and chewed up gear teeth etc..

Is Heng motors(Ah Heng's workshop) in Ah Gua lane? If it is, then I may visit it. Can you give me the directions? Does he stock other branded EO like Motul/Maxima what are the prices there?

ah heng's is not in AGL, it's further up until jusco and turn in at shell and another distance to travel up.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

And abt overhauled thingy .. hey I'm no experts here ley .... I oso don't know lah .... once there got 1 guy a freind of my brother riding R1, he talk like very good all know one, then pointing at my bike as said loudly .. " öh this bajaj most I give 2 years and the engine will breakdown" .. and said to me again "if I can get the whole engine from India, its cheaper than 'buying it in S'pore" ... i look at him and smile.

Truely imho, there is no such word as last for ever one ... and after that incident, it makes me wonder most, why people have the rights to point and say oh this bike cannot last ...

so looking and getting somew answers from the mech at UM, my verdict back to one who handle it..... it's the RIDER attitude!!!!

agree that india is cheaper, but then again, which vehicle go to origin country is not cheap?

but then i'm riding close to 5yr engine still good. occasion will get cold start, but that's no big deal. then again i've been riding quite heavily these few months, need to find time for servicing soon or else big problem. as compared to our good friend, his bike dont know overhaul how many times, so yea, 50% luck, 50% attitude, 100% rider.

Hey, don't go around telling people to do illegal stuff oh ! :gun::gun:

You're lucky you're too big and too scary for me, otherwise I'd knock your head ! :p

How are you, recovered fully ? How's your bike ? Heard you had some electrical issues recently, all fixed ?

Hahaha I was just joking!

Well not fully recovered yet,my lower back is still swollen but can walk and sit with minimal pain.Bike is at HKL because of accident claim.I wil get it on friday or saturday.Electrical issues were quite some time back and recently magneto coil also.It could not start and kept on dying.I changed the magneto coil a few days before the accident. Now Ah Keong(the mech at HKL) told me my starter motor got a bit problem.Have to check it out once I get it though.Total repair cost for my bike is 1.8k!! Thank god I dont have to fork out a single cent.

MJ > Chris gave me back my spray cans, old sprockets etc I left last time I was at Um cause could not carry them with me, and he said the belly pan is from MJ. But I want to pay for it if you wanted to sell it ! Who did it belong to ? is it from another pulsar bike ?

My rear disc project is still on my mind, I will contact the Indonesian brothers this week to set everything up

1.8k - OUCH ! But then again that's great, you'll get all new shiny bike :) Is UM doing the repair or HKL ? (what's HKL )

I'm glad you feel better, so maybe if your back is still recovering you should not be on a bike so soon ?

Oh ok, Alvin told me you might have had same issues as me, what happened to me is the rectifier was weak and not doing its job properly. Ah Teck explained to me everything and he showed me what he tested and how he came to the conclusion that it was the rectifier. It's great to have a bike shop where people will share and explain, because as an owner and rider, I feel better when i understand why I change something and how that part works. Before I change the rectifier, the battery wouldn't completely charge, it would show 11.8V when i turn on the ignition, and I can;t start the bike. But if I psh start the bike, it works fine. After we recharged the battery a bit, Ah Teck tested how the voltmeter reacted to throttling: it wouldn't go above 13.8 even when reaching 8+ RPM. With a new rectifier, the bike on start up shows 12.8V or more, and when reved to 8+ RPM, the voltmeter would go to 14.5V.

I also think that the battery failed me tat day because in the morning I didn't ride as I usually do: usually I ride 2nd gear until I get out of my lane, so veeeery slow. Then maintain 3rd gear 30km/h or 35km/h until I reach a big avenue. So that way my engine slowly warms up and I take it easy cause it's empty in the early morning where I live so no pressure from other road users, I just jalan jalan :)

After that on big avenue I go max 4th gear, and for 15min maintain a nice smooth pace.

But that morning I left home later than usual, a lot of traffic, and I was late for a meeting so I couldn't just enjoy a slow pace like I usually do, and I felt like the trip was shorter so maybe the rectifier and battery didn't have time to fully work their magic.

But anyway, rectifier was still under warranty so it's all good (forgot to ask how much it cost), and now the bike starts perfectly well. And I learned how to do a push start with the bike, so there's a positive :cheeky:

Mine I thought was spark plugs at first but as usual Ah Tek also showed me what factors couldve contributed to my bike not being able to start. He kickstarted it and let the bike run for a good 5-10 minutes. He also listened very carefully when he revved. We ruled out the spark plugs and then he thought it was the CDI.He changed to a new CDI and still the problem was there. He changed magneto coil and poof! it was instant magic.I seriously admire Ah Tek's ingeniutity and his demeanor towards customers.

HKL is the shop directly beside UM.That shop is renowned for accident claims.

Where can i find oil / lube to lubricate the chains? Is there a brand or just anything will do?

You can find chain oil in most bikeshops, but I would recommend you go to Mustafa or NTUC, the prices can be more attractive there.

I use Maxima lube chain (I think, now I can't remember...) , I'll check the exact reference at home later and post it.

Some will tell you the oil in a spray can is not good because you tend to spray on the rim or whatever, some will tell you use old Engine oil , so you see, there's no perfect answer. My view is find an oil that's in your budget + you find easy to use. Personally, i like the oil in can because i can aim at the exact place on the chain i want to lube and spray - it's done! And i also like that it comes out like shaving cream gel like that, very..fluffy like cotton candy haha :D then it changes and becomes more thick like grease. It's fun to do so i stick with that type of oil/lube.

Don;t worry, even if you pick a chain lube that only you uses, your Pulsar will love it I'm sure !

Hey Brandon, I see the list of stuff on your signature and I tell myself... I need all of those.. So how would i go about getting them and is it going to burn a big hole in my pocket?

Thanks for all the tips and recommendations guys.

I made it to UM today to finish off the repairs. Waited out the morning rain and was testing my brakes at my carpark when the front brake seized on me. The crash sent me sliding, left my headlight hanging out and broke the rear box base plate.

Luckily an uncle came out and helped me secure the headlight and rear box with some rope. And also thankfully I was wearing gloves when I fell.

Got to UM and met a fellow SBT member who reads this thread. :)

Managed to fix on the following:

  • 2nd hand rear box base plate
  • Replaced front brake fluid pump kit
  • Replaced speedometer cable with sensor
  • New IU unit + bracket
  • New self-cancelling signal light assembly

Was told that it costs about $210 to change the head of my bike back to the Pulsar stock head. I think I'll stick with the cross breed RXZ head.

Ah Teck serviced my bike. He took out the digital speedo and fixed the tachometer for me as well. At lunch time Ah Wai took over and finished off the job. Both the mechanics were great!

Now my bike finally works properly. It feels great riding it! All that's left is to mask the ugly scratches on the bike caused by my crash in the carpark.

Do you know whats the approximate cost? Is it a legal mod in Singapore? I was keen on changing the brakes.

Heya. In case you're like me and took over a bike without the manual, here's a pdf version of the Pulsar 180 UG3 Owner's Manual. Hope it comes to use if you got yourself a UG3.

which aunty shop?

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

dont think it's illegal, a brake is still a brake and it does the job of braking, however if u mod engine, pipe, to make more power, nosier, that's another story.

this project is not finalized yet. i'm sure if it's done, a lot of pusarians will be interested.

bro, what the protec coil x 2 use for??

For better current flow from ur spark plug to the "part" (duno call wat), overall it will have better respond and more power w/o affecting fuel consumption (FC) buy liao buy liao all buy dun wait. Any old bird can help me elaborate more?
