A carburetor, in a nutshell, controls the air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) of the goodness before sending it to your engine to be ignited. It also controls the amount of petrol pumped into your engine. Normally located behind your engine block.

normally the only tuning a carburetor would need would be setting up the AFR, and timings.

In the case of really old bikes, it might be necessary to replace the worn out carburator jets and timing floats.

Personally, i've never had the guts to clean my own carburetor. The next time you ask your mechanic to clean your carb, you can ask his opinion if your carburator needs a rebuilt.

HKL @ bukit timah offers to rebuild your carburator for you for 350 odd. carburator in question is from a GSX400RP. turns out i didnt need to rebuild it.

rebuild as in change the needles and floats, and setting on a dynojet.
