Planning to get a skipper, did a initial inspection on one a few days ago but not really sure if its ok. The current owner, only 2 owner, has not ridden it for some time, the electric starter unable to start and he has to crank alot of time using the kick start to make the bike runs. Owner says he has change rectifier and piston before. Check the rear wheel, it did not shake, but the bike vibrate alot when idling. The front wheel looks worn but the rear wheel is ok. Instrument panel cannot view anymore because rain water has seep in. Paint work is old but the panel are fit in nicely, some minor road rash cover with stickers. Fuel consumption is abt 18km per litre. Tires have been change to tubeless one. I did not test ride because din bring helmet.

Test ride another one today, dun really like it. Need to turn the throttle alot then can move, the front brake is very sensitive, nearly did a stoppie. When on the run, 20-30km/h the bike very unstable. Water has gone into the instrument panel too and can't really see what inside anymore. Paint work is quite old, rear side panel not flush and some road rash at the side from falling according to owner. Fuel consumption wise owner told me $10 can travel 10days but not very sure how far he travel. Owner say less than $70 per servicing, every 5K inclusive of belt change and says no need change roller, is it true?? Bike starts easily but only problem is when running quite unstable, feels like the alighment is out. Check the rear wheel by shaking it, doesn;t really move.

I'm interested to get the first skipper, but worried about the starting problem and the vibration, is anyone free to help me to check it out on monday evening at Tiong Bahru Plaza? I will treat you dinner. Because I'm not really sure if its ok as I have never ridden a scoot before. Dun wish to get a scoot which end up spending lots of money repairing it.

S750WP>> one question. how much is the guy offering for bike and how much are you willing to pay for servicing? i'm not much of a pro here but let me try break it down for u frm wat i know.

e-start>> most prob u gotto service starter or get new ones. ard 40-60. as for kickstart prob..might wanna check on cdi/sparkplug coil/sparkplug/gears on kickstarter.

bike vibration>>according to ur description its rather vague. cos skipper vibrates quite a bit compared t5o 4 strokes so gotto really check it out to know.

for servicing>> rollers are changed together with belt frm wat i read. so most prob ur transmission prob between 20-30km/hr might be due to roller. (since piston changed i might say tt overhaul might not be needed?? verification needed here.)

throttling prob>>gotto see how bad it is, might boils down to simple tightening of throttle cable.

speedo panels>> if u wish to change 2nd hand cost between 20-30.

fuel consumption>> rather high if its 18km/l. avg skipper runs 24km/l to 28km/l.

tubeless tyres>> it might be written as tubeless but really gotto see if its really tubeless.(most of us got conned when we first started out) this gotto leave for old timers to advice.

paintwork>> there's always option of diy. :thumb:

advice frm me...try search ard for other skippers b4 committing to this two (unless it's dirt cheap as in 50-150.) cos i think quite a bit of repair cost might be required for either.if really gotto choose, first one sounds cheaper to repair, provided the bike tested out well.

if u live ard tampines/east area do drop me a pm. dun mind letting u test ard carpark to get a feel of a proper runnnig skipper. so it'll be easier for u to gauge when scouting for a skipper.

>S750WP>> Agreed with what Rae had said.

anyway i also just got mine not long ago and i knew what were the common problems that the skipper face as i kanna it myself.

1.)starter spolit- adviseable to fix it as very tiring everyday must crank start.

2.)bike vibrate - all skippers on idle sure vibrate one.. quite normal for that unless very violently vibrating.

3.)trottle problem - very high possibilitiy is carb need to wash liao.(if lucky)

- (if unlucky is carb or cdi gone have to change)

- new carb-approx 200 and cdi 80

- can try get 2nd hand from wonder motors

All these problems, you facing can be solve at that motortiam but is it worth that value, the decision lay with you.

Anyway if you want to test out skipper to compare, can look for me too.

S750WP>> My turn to advise!

Basically, trouble to start bike could be due to sparkplug or startercarbon used up! I used to have loads of issue with these two! Changing them cost less than $50.

Regarding your low fuel consumption, 18km/litre is chalat :giddy: Maybe when u get the bike, go send it for a carb wash! Confirm can run better and FC :thumb:

Best to change rollers (tends to go flat after using for along time) when changing belt. Total package around $80 for normal belt.

For your vibration, it could be the engine mounting rusty! Just my agak agak, if when u ride it does not vibrate alot, then its ok but if it really "vibrates" best is to send it for repair first. Engine mounting "might" need overhaul.

Speedo panel for new one, can ask tong aik if they still have! mine is still "new" . Else can DIY, need to wait for DIY guru (RAE) to be free!

Basically in my opinion, if you are getting the bike at $500 and below, thats quite ok but be prepared to spend around $500 (max) to slowly repair the bike! Trust me that after the full repair, the bike will be totally fine!

As offered by others, if u need to test a skipper, you can call me at 97396278 for assistance during weekend. Monday i cant make it cause i work evening shift. Go home only at 10pm :weep: Call me as well if you wanna test the chio skipper below! :cheeky:

Thanks all for the advice and the offer to test ride your skippers.

Both owner final asking price is $550, after I negotiate.

Pro of skipper 1

Skipper 1 original paintwork looks better

Skipper 1 moves off easily than skipper 2

Skipper 1 COE and Road tax is later than skipper 2

Skipper 1 has new piston, rectifier and tubeless tire

Skipper 1 has only 2 owners (Skipper 2 has 12 previous owners)

Con of skipper 1

Skipper 1 seems to vibrate more compare to Skipper 2 at stationary (tighten engine mounting)

Skipper 1 cannot e start while skipper 2 start easily (change starter carbon and charge up battery)

Skipper 1 fuel consumption quite bad full tank travel only 150km (wash carb and change spark plug)

I think my choice will be skipper 1 if the ride is stable, and it seems to be cheaper to fix too. Like to know what are the common faults on skipper so I can watch out in future.

Plan to DIY servicing my skipper once I get the skipper manual. Where would the place to get skipper parts new and used.

Think battery don't need the charge up as since you can crank start, then battery should still be ok.

Anyway since you have decided, all the best to you.

Personal view: Send to wonderful Motors to do up all the neccessary stuff.

Botak will know how to save money for you and don't chop you one,

extremely friendly guy and he will teach you if you want to also.

Beside that, he got lots of 2nd hand parts hence you can get whatever you need easily from him.

Look into the motortiams thread and you will understand what i meant.

Hey i saw this FL plate skipper at sunrise selling at 850 worth it anot??

i know its abit high but that simon refuse to lower the price...

(He say he bao 1mth warranty and said that its in good workign condition.)

I never test ride only switch on the ignition and everything sounds pretty good. Easy to start and no cranking sound and throttling v. smooth.

If add insurance is ard $240 so total have to pay ard $1090 OTR.
